Considering how incredibly rare it is to find balanced global warming reporting in the mainstream media, Noel Sheppard’s 4/24 NewsBusters headline was worthy of a double-take: “Retired Anchorman Apologizes for Presenting Both Sides of Global Warming Debate.” Having written an American Thinker article last year where I quantified the outright bias at the PBS NewsHour to be a ratio of 3 “skeptic” to 200+ “pro-Al Gore/IPCC” going back to 1996, I was puzzled. Who could it be?
I was disappointed to see a name I didn’t recognize – imagine it being NBC’s Tom Brokaw. The bigger disappointment for me was in Sheppard’s third and fourth paragraph reproduction of the original Duluth Budgeteer article, where it said:
The TV newsman’s mea culpa about having misreported climate change came after of years of treating the story the same as he would any other, requiring the views of two opposing parties…
….climate change is not a pro or con issue; it’s a scientific fact. And journalists who work to “balance” a story present an inaccurate picture when they give equal weight to sources promulgating inaccurate facts.
The significance of that eludes most people, but I’d been researching the origins of the fossil fuel funding accusation against skeptic scientists for 16+ months, two of my articles about it are at Breitbart pages here and here, among a pile of others I’ve written. For me, the words “equal balance”/”equal weight” in reference to people pushing “inaccurate facts” jumped right off the page as yet another repetition of 15-year old talking points consolidated by anti-skeptic book author Ross Gelbspan and his associates at the Ozone Action enviro-advocacy group in 1996. For those not familiar with that group, just think Greenpeace because its founder John Passacantando merged Ozone Action with Greenpeace USA in 2000 and took over as its new executive director.
Regardless of that group’s motives, we have to commend them for fine-tuning their message into a concise 3-part mantra – settled science / skeptic scientists paid by fossil fuel industries to “reposition global warming as theory rather than fact” / the media gives skeptics too much unneeded attention. Even the dumbest of their followers can easily remember it.
So, I assumed the original Budgeteer article (now behind the newspaper group’s paywall), would have the ex-TV anchorman, Don Shelby, heartily praise Gelbspan for inspiring his apology. Surprisingly, it instead indicated Shelby got the idea entirely on his own. That prompted me to write an article at the American Thinker about this contradiction because a paragraph not seen in the NewsBusters piece stated:
Shelby said he used the skills of any good investigative reporter and followed the money. “Once I began to trace back the source and the politics of that approach to science … Things began to smell. I then started pointing out those facts”….
This isn’t merely a misconception on my part, the commenter at this page’s link to the original article clearly says,
Mr. Shelby has stumbled into “the great dilemma” we all face and live with, each and every day… “Biased Reporting”, ‘cherry picking’, “distorting outcomes”…We need more men like him, to stand up and be counted and oppose this travesty of justice.
When I emailed the Budgeteer about Shelby’s apparent problem, they first said the report was about an event, not science debate, then asked if my email could be a letter-to-the-editor, even though I was just suggesting another look into the situation. It appeared online bizarrely headlined, “Shelby needs to provide irrefutable proof that scientific skeptics are wrong,” despite no such insinuation about that on my part. I politely offered specific word searches for them to try in relation to Shelby’s claims, but ultimately the editor to ask me on 6/3 not to contact them again because “we aren’t planning any additional coverage of the issue, especially with regard to Mr. Shelby’s stance and statements… Our top priority remains local-local news.” (Yes, he did type the word “local” twice).
A locally famous speaker making spectacularly questionable assertions to a group of university students is as local as it gets. Asking tough questions about the veracity of those involves neither science nor politics. When anyone seriously tries to get to the bottom of these, it is amazing what can be found. In my 6/2 article “Media Too Fair to Climate Skeptics,” say reporters who’ve been unfair to skeptics, I showed how there are very troublesome problems surrounding Ross Gelbspan and an often cited 2004 paper that supposedly proves the media was too fair to skeptic scientists, and in an exclusive I wrote for Marc Morano’s Climate Depot, I showed how Al Gore’s praise of Gelbspan as discoverer of coal industry memos supposedly proving the guilt of skeptic scientists is contradicted by words straight out of his own 1992 Earth in the Balance book.
People say there is no hope for the mainstream media, but the crack in their armor was exposed when CBS’ Bob Schieffer said in response to a wildly unsupported accusation from the White House’s David Axelrod on another matter, “Is that the best you can do?” When it comes to global warming promoters relying unsupported accusations to keep their issue alive rather than support their underlying science, this is perhaps better analogized by a Wall Street movie quote, where Charlie Sheen’s boss says, “Man looks in the abyss, there’s nothing staring back at him. At that moment, man finds his character. And that is what keeps him out of the abyss.”
Whether it’s a huge media news outlet or a small newspaper, the global warming issue is their abyss, and I’m just one of an ever-increasing number giving them this advice. I didn’t realize until Andrew Breitbart said it just recently, the name to put on this is citizen journalism:
All we did was ask of the mainstream media to correct their bias problem….but as a result of that, when they wouldn’t correct themselves, citizens said, “if you are not going to correct yourself, we’re going to create a media in the wake of your incompetency.”

Bravo, Russell. "Global warming" is to the 21st century what geocentrism was to the middle ages, and the Church of Liberalism has instructed its enforcers (the mainstream media) to punish heretics and "correct" the record. It takes brave and dedicated work by those who seek only the truth to expose this fraud, and I thank you for being one of those courageous souls.
And the statists accuse us of being theocrats!
Global climate change is a given, and you don't need "science" to prove it. It's been happening for billions of years due to the fact that we live in a dynamic solar system with a central star, planets, and other celestial objects that are continually changing. However, these days, the libs always imply climate change is caused by humans, and usually they just point the finger at only those humans who reside on the North American continent. Claiming the U.S. is to blame. Anthropogenic climate change is a huge crock of "warm" b.s.!! Dreamed up for the sole purpose of attacking and damaging the United States. Those in the American media who give it any kind of credence are just proving once again why they are little more than propagandists and a disgrace! The American, and western media in general, is hardly a source of "fact". Particularly, when it comes to science.
Huh?
The tropics and much of the Northern Hemisphere are likely to experience an irreversible rise in summer temperatures within the next 20 to 60 years if atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations continue to increase, according to a new climate study by Stanford University scientists. The results will be published later this month in the journal Climatic Change.

Denial is a "valid response" of people when confronted with tough times, and this response explains climate change deniers.
According to Pearman, a large proportion of sceptics are "the type of people" that deny any problems facing them. "It is a normal coping mechanism," he said.

Compare sea ice for two dates. Try to find a June date in the past with less ice than this year.
http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/20...
The top map shows how much warmer the world was in the years 1970 – 1979 compared to the average temperature from 1951 – 1980. You can see that some parts of the Earth warmed and others cooled in the 1970s.
The bottom map is the same, but only from 2000 – 2009 compared to 1951 – 1980. Those cooler spots are hard to find now, aren’t they?
"eludes" not "alludes"
The site appears incomplete. Where's the pre-industrial age data?
There's always been something hugely ironic about people whose industries sell news and entertainment for single-use consumption – and whose industries are completely dependent for their delivery upon coal-produced electricity and the harvesting of millions of trees every year – presuming to hector the rest of us for our supposed sins against the planet. It'd be a howlingly funny knee-slapper if the hypocrisy weren't so blatant.
Always nice to a see a fool from the north pointing to liberal websites as proof of his lame theories. Get out and smell the moose poop, loser. Stop relying on other lefty jackasses to validate your lame existence.
Something that affects the weather of our planet …. and humans, even liberal humans, have no control over it .. http://www.space.com/11893-huge-sun-eruption-spec...
the answer is NO…
The MSM has it's orders- and it's narrative. As Michael Crichton correctly pointed out in his book 'State of Fear' that this nonsense- human caused climate change- is a Progressive scheme to control resources and cull the herd. It is the same people who brought you the eugenics movement of the early 20th century.
We are now in a small cooling cycle. While actic ice is shrinking, Antarctic ice is thicker- in the middle- than it has been in recent history. The warming cycles on Mars dovetail Earth- and there are no SUV's there. One good volcano- Pinatubo sized- will put more crap in the air than a decade worth of vehicles.
Do humans pollute? Yes, of course. Could we be smarter about how we use resources? Absolutely. But this is a Trojan Horse that is filled with officious bureacrats looking to control EVERY facet of your life. Including how many should live-
or die…
Which means you are only looking a data covering 40 years out of roughly 4 BILLION years of "climate change" on the planet. That's 0.000001% of the earth's climate history.
Just in the last 600 Million years, CO2 levels in the atmosphere have ranged as high as 7,000 ppm in the Cambrian Period (versus the 320 ppm currently) WITHOUT a runaway greenhouse effect. Average global temperatures have never exceeded 22 degrees C.
Average CO2 levels during the last 600 million years have run between 1000-2000 ppm all without large human populations burning fossil fuels. By comparison over geologic time, we are currently STARVED for CO2.
All of this is established scientfic FACT.
So who is the denier now?
I'll go with every June throughout the entire 200 million years of the Mesozoic Era for starters.
The argument about whether global warming is real or not is irrelevant and politicians should not bother embarking on a debate about global warming's veracity as either fact or fiction. The argument is over the draconian legislation and oppressive taxation the Left wants to implement to 'change the climate back'. A preposterous notion in the first place – and an outright deception. No leftist, in his own life, including the climate cabal, has done a single thing to lower his own standard of living, nor do they intend to. They want to implement global wealth redistribution and all encompassing government control over our lives by lowering our standard of living. They want to turn back the clock on technological progress and amass wealth for themselves. [See: Al Gore, et al]. It doesn't matter whether any crisis which the Left is demagoguing on a given day is a real or invented – the goal is always the same: More power. Nothing they do will alter the earth's course either way. If we could effect the climate and weather patterns, why can we not save more lives from catastrophic tsunamis, hurricanes, earthquakes and tornadoes? If we all paid taxes on carbon scams and had more solar and wind energy subsidies – would these recent weather disasters have been averted? The answer is of course, no. Maybe the environmentalist wackos should work on extreme weather prediction – tragic events which they've somehow never been able to see coming.
The challenge that Climate Scientists face is pursuading the public that there is danger even though their senses don't perceive it. Most people simply don't see, hear, or fear the 'tidal wave' of global warming/climate change, and THAT is the problem. DENIAL is a stupid explanation for the current skepticism we see.
Now how about this new strategy we're seeing in the defense of climate change? You know, to take the ball out of the hands of the politicians, the actors, the media, etc. and keep it in the hands of the scientists. Makes sense, until you remember that when Al Gore and others were double dribbling and carrying the ball all over the court and out of bounds, you never heard the climate scientists complain. (If they did, I didn't hear anywhere! And I even listened to NPR before the Juan Williams debacle.)
The whole scheme has NOTHING to do with climate change. It has EVERYTHING to do with our burgeoning governmental bureaucracies slipping in more and more "rules" and "regulations" designed to FORCE us to live the way THEY think we should. Otherwise, we wouldn't have them foisting off on us poison-filled lightbulbs to replace perfectly suitable incandescents by mandate, or requiring the toilet-makers to design them so they use less water (and, not so coincidentally, less efficiently,) mandate that we be served less salt, transfats or MSG in our food because THEY believe those things are "bad for us"–apparently forgetting that salt is REQUIRED by all animal life, transfats, while marginally "bad" make foods taste better, as does MSG. These busy-bodies forever ruined movie-house popcorn by claiiming that popping the stuff in coconut oil (which is somewhat high in "BAD" cholesterol) would "kill us all" even if you only went to the movies two or three times a year! These people are morons, but they're DANGEROUS morons because few people bother to call them on their idiocies. I for one am through "not bothering."
I remember when Time and Newsweek and the 5th column were proclaiming an upcoming ICE AGE in the 70s
Newsweek: http://www.denisdutton.com/cooling_world.htm
Time: http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,...
Only the morons believe in global warming or cooling. The climate like the winds, tides and the universe in general changes.
Sadly, one of the republican candidates has fallen into this trap – Mitt Romney is a believer in not just global warming, but man-made global warming.
Stupidity knows no bounds. A believer in global warming and a believe in state-sponsored healthcare. He's outta here.
Mitt Romney: Humans contribute to global warming http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20068782-5...
Partly right. The earth has been cycling between 30 years of warm and 30 years of cool. We are into 13 years of cool. So in 20 years it will start warming again. But it has never been irrversible even though temperatures have been warmer several times in the past several thousand years. Green house gas concentration has always followed temperature increases and never preceded them and have been much higher in the past too.
It's past time for you to stop unquestioningly accepting conventional wisdom and do some independent research. http://www.vimeo.com/8865909
Yup, a small change in old Sol and we are history… The Earth will survive though
Fulfill your moral obligations then and die.
Newscientist is a well known mis named promoter of climate change. It has never published an article exposing the defects in its prior articles. Nor has it referenced any of the well researched, peer reviewed articles published by climate scientists disproving the Climate Change Hypothesis. Here are links to over 900 of them. http://www.populartechnology.net/2009/10/peer-rev...
Dear cg,
Yeah, water vapor will do that!
LOL!
- John Lepant
check out 'The great global warming swindle' its all you need to know about this crap. and Romney? how the hell do we keep ending up with rinos at the top of the ticket? wtf over.
yep.. it's the ole ebb and flow. ditto on Romno.
Gentle Readers,
Dear Canuck Grit,
1. I've posted this before, but the basic trouble is that according to the HADLEY CENTER, a proponent of the notion that human CO2 emissions cause global warming, total warming since 1850 has only been 0.76C, with a Std. Dev. for that data of 0.75C .
A total temperature change of 1/100 of 1 degree C outside Std. Dev. over a 160 year period of time really doesn't prove anything.
HADLEY is the UN IPCC and US EPA source for climate data.
2. Moreover, since 1850 human emissions of CO2 account for less than 3% of total atmospheric CO2 emissions with over 97% from natural sources. Reduce human CO2 emissions globally to zero at great trouble and expense, and there is little effect.
3. Many of the people who claim to believe human CO2 emissions are harmful refuse to accept proven zero-carbon energy sources, specifically, hydroelectric and atomic power. This undermines their credibility. If you believe human CO2 emissions are harmful, you would promote atomic and hydropower. They usually oppose these as well as fossil fuels.
4. And, many of these people have vested interests, often economic.
Sincerely,
John Lepant Brighton CO
CLIMATE CHANGE DENIERS ARE HARMFUL TO SOCIETY. LIKE DRUNKEN AIRLINE PIOLETS, THEY REPRESENT DANGER TO US ALL AND SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM PLACES OF PUBLIC INFLUENCE, AND FROM OWNING BUG BUSINESSES. EVIL EARTH DESTROYING LIFE HATING WRETCHES!
Part 1:
A large portion of “Skeptics” are those who won’t accept “conventional wisdom” at face value and actually obtain evidence before forming an opinion. The initial propaganda push was the installation of fear that Global Warming was happening and that we needed to spend billions for remedies and do it right away. Alarms were suspect because of the low credibility of the scare mongers, e.g. Al Gore and Margaret Meade.
A quick analysis revealed that ideologues were using the GW prop to push population control, global government, redistribution of wealth, social justice, etc. Capitalists were pushing it to sell alternative energy goods and services subsidized by taxes. Scientists were pushing it for funding and career enhancement or under threat of losing their position if they didn’t. Opportunists, including Al Gore and Big Oil expected big profits in Cap and Trade. Some promoters admitted that they didn’t care whether Climate Change was real or not, they were going to use the alarm to promote their agenda.
part 2:
Against the GW alarmists were the small number of unpopular, under-financed, independent, climate scientist teams or individuals obtaining proxy data and analyzing data made available by other researchers.
The choice is clear. You can remain a victim of the conventional wisdom of the false Climate Change hypothesis or you can be an informed citizen.
I doubt many own "bug businesses".
Anyone who has taken "Intro to General Science" can take one look at the AGW claims and realize that not only do the people making the claims refuse to release the original data, they also refuse to release their math (specifically, they refuse to release the computer programs). As such, their "research" is not worth the paper it is written on and no serious scientist should pay the least attention to their claims until they do.
Global sea ice area chart 1979 to present. http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/IMAGES/gl...
The extent of Antarctic sea ice in the 2007 austral winter was the greatest on record since James Cook discovered the place in 1770. (Little Ice Age – 1350 – 1850) http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/global_warming...
In 1959 the Arctic was open ocean as seen in this photograph. http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/04/26/ice-at-the-...
Therefore sea ice extent cycles.
Images of sea ice coverage alone means nothing. What was the Antarctic coverage during the same time period? Where is the corresponding sea current and temperature readings? How about solar activity data?
Is this data corrected for urban warming bias and thermometer accuracy or is it the same data from this station and many others like it? http://wattsupwiththat.com/2008/02/14/how-not-to-...
Did you leave out the hockey stick this time?
I wish one of you people would tell me what the proper temperature of the earth should be? Or how ice ages have come and gone long before man and machines? Almost everything that has been said about global warming has been wrong. This was the year that there were suppossed to be 50 million refugees from global warming and rising seas, on and on, all wrong. FAIL>
The greatest threat to the earth is the overuse of the Caps Lock key. It has been scientifically proven. I don't feel like releasing my data or methodology, though, so you'll just have to take my word for it.
You hit the nail on the head.
I myself used to work as a green house gas professional, and heres how I would make my pitch,
1) I tell people, as you've said that the argument of whether or not man made climate change and if they should do something about it is irrelevant………..and heres why
2) I lead them through establishing a required ROI for EVERYTHING we do….
3) I lead them through establishing a required payback period for EVERYTHING we do….
4) Nothing that reduces greenhouse gas is considered unless it meets steps 2 and 3.
The story to me isn't when a liberal supports global warming actions. Its when he supports it by spending money with no foreseeable payback (a.k.a. a lot of alternative energy projects) when he could cut the same amount of GHG by changing the windows on some buildings – and save everyone money while he does it.
Don't drink and type.
This was the year that there were suppossed to be 50 million refugees from global warming
Do people who lost their jobs due to "green" regulations count?
"in the journal Climatic Change."
Gee, what a reputable unbiased source.
These are nothing but forecasts, based on models which have already been shown to be crap. That isn't science, it's astrology. It's the worst sort of assumed-premise false logic, dressed up with frake numbers to look all "sciencey."
Sucker.
Come back when you have a shred of evidence AGW is aqcdtually real.
Typical Commie approach: dissenters are menatlly ill! What to try Teodor Adorno next?
Actually, we just refuse to be gullible dupes.
Discover- oh, yeah: that's a reliable source.
BTW, what are those "spots" based on? Actaul weather stations? Actually no. They are "normalized" virtual tempreatures. That's GISS' way of saying "we pulled them out of our ass."
Sucker.
You'll never get anywhere just throwing the usual propaganda from the usual fraudsters and their mouthpieces at us.
Scratch a lefty, find a fascist. Especially the whackjobs who type in all caps, the Web equivalent of scrawling in crayon.
Climate change skeptics are the ones who are trying to restore science to its rightful pride of place, instead of the Lysenkoesque junk preudoscience the eco-Luddites and their confederates have succeeded in hyping with a massive and massively-funded propaganda campaign..
The AGW scam is probably the GREATEST CRIMINAL FRAUD in human history (after Mohammed's forging the Quran, of course).
BTW, is a "piolet" a garden plant I don't know about? Genus Viola, perhaps?
There you go again, expressing pure undeniable logic. Good on you!
Mankind is considered (by the radical environmentalists) the lowest and the meanest of all species and is blamed for everything.

The reality is that zero defects in products plus zero pollution plus zero risk on the job is equivalent to maximum growth of government plus zero economic growth plus runaway inflation.

The government should set a goal for a clean environment but not mandate how that goal should be implemented.

They have been looking into that abyss for a good decade or so. Their character is in plain view for all to see, and it has not changed a whit for the better (more ethical).
I DON"T KNOW WHAT LYSENKO IS, SO I HAVE TO GO LOOK IT UP AND MY CRAYON IS WEARING OUT!
YOU ARE SO RIGHT ABOUT THE AGW FRAUD AND THE KORAN.
I just looked him up. Astonishing. The only way that he got away with it was the total state control. It is good that thinking people are still allowed to speak out, after a fashion. (My crayon broke!)
Did you look at who is financing that study at Stanford? Many of them are in favor of California HB 32 and SB X2 to reduce CO2 emmisions by 33% and bankrupt California businesses.
Stanford University has received $225 Million from ExxonMobil, Toyota and Schlumberger for its Global Climate and Energy Project. That money will be combined with a $50 Million donation from alumnus Jay Precourt whose career as an oil engineer included such companies as Hamilton Oil and Tejas Gas Corp.
Left-wing thieves are harmful to society
So who is the denier now?
You won't get any reply from that leftist drone, MCD. He's not interested in inconvenient truths.
Care to tell me how much of this series of events is man-made, and how much is naturally occurring? You must know, since you know so much about this topic.
Zealots have difficulty with the concept "unknowable".

The rate of release of carbon into the atmosphere today is nearly 10 times as fast as during the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM), 55.9 million years ago, the best analog we have for current global warming, according to an international team of geologists.
Or bloggers from Canada.
Being from minnesota, I can assure you 'DFL Don' Shelby is a useful idiot for the left, and thankfully has retired and his liberal soapbox is correspondingly smaller. Like all old media talking heads, he has pretended to report news while instead carrying water for liberalism and particularly the democratic party.
The fact that k-12 does not teach enough about the scientific method leads to liberal sheeple being completely unable to evaluate competing scientific claims–they can only follow the thought leaders. Those of us who have received a better education understand that the first level of knowledge is to understand the extent of one' s ignorance. This insight represents an insurmountable hurdle for the passionate and irrational adherents to the liberal religion.
Answer: NO.
Also, we know for a fact that michael mann, inventor of the hockey stick warming graph, is under investigation. He has never shared the supporting data for his invention–contrary to the most fundamental principles of scientific debate–and penn state is resisiting calls for the release of his papers from this time there.
While our society and government is sadly incapable of rigorous scientific analysis, being wholly religious in orientation, we are fortunate that mother earth herself is being so rude as to become cooler and disprove this apocalyptic religion with empirical data.
We live in an age of superstition–a tyrrany of ignorance that calls itself science–contrary to the notion that human wisdom and knowledge inexorably marches forward.
I have thrown a lot of analysis at warmers over the years, and its important to understand that since their mindest is religious, they can't be debated out of their feelings. They only believe their leaders–its not what they are told, but who tells them. They post charts and assertions–not because they understand them–but because the thought leaders provide them with these charts and assertions.
The so-called credentialed experts all have a vested economic interest, the sheeple will never know what is in their best interest.
You must mean Albert Gore, do you not?
Repent, unbelievers!
the "DENIAL!" knife cuts both ways. we can just as easily- no, WAAAAAY F***ING MORE EASILY- pin the 'denier' tail on your donkey a$$e$. the Climategate debacle exposed it all as a huge f***ing scam, but you leftist deniers tried your damnedest to sweep that mess under the rug as quickly as possible.
ok, your turn- tell us all how none of that really happened, the East Anglia computers were hacked (hmmm, why does that sound familiar?), etc……….
http://www.surfacestations.org is another fun site.
No leftist, in his own life, including the climate cabal, has done a single thing to lower his own standard of living, nor do they intend to.
The reason is because they don't even believe it themselves, much less actually understand any of the science involved. As you noted, it's only yet one more power/money grab from our "betters".
The only thing worse than Big Business is Big Capslock.
another facet is that while the true believers decry the apparent profit motives of the energy industry, they conveniently deny that any govt researcher/scientist/propagandist would be swayed by million$ in grants. i've always said there's very little money to be made by honest scientist who admit there ain't sh!t we can do about climate change other than monitor the situation.
The key is the rate of change. We can adapt to a change in climate if it takes place over a period of thousands of years. But if the same change was to happen over the course of a hundred years we might not be able to adapt.

Only 9,098 Of Last 10,500 Years Warmer Than 2010.
Yes, it's true. The earth existed before 1950. It even existed before there were cars. And yet, it was warmer then than it is now.
How is that possible?
Climate Change: The earth has a climate. It changes.
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2010/12/28/2010%E2%80%...
Call me when they're farming in Greenland and we're all buying fine British wines because then I'll know it is as warm as it used to be in Earth's recent past.
Why don't you look for articles and studies that DISPROVE your beliefs instead of just breathing your own fumes all of the time.
A TRUE scientist would. Maybe you should do the same.
Or do you think that only people who agree with you should have their voices heard.
I've looked at both sides. AGW is bunk.
The earth has a climate. It changes.
How DARE you make sense!
On the bright side, this time they're so married to the impending doom of MMGW that we might be spared the impending Ice Age.
It almost sounds like he was bullied into taking the AGW true believer stance. It's what progressives do, so I'm not terribly surprised by it.
The fact is that the AGW scam has been unraveling since 2008, and all this amounts to little more than the people who stand the most to gain from a continued scare are scrambling to cover the incriminating data. There's nothing even remotely scientific about it.
the Progressive left takes care of their own- by looting us, the taxpayer of course- and pay their stooges to report what they want them to. Any time these fools bleat their nonsensical junk science we're reminded of the old Thomas Dolby song- 'She Blinded Me With Science'…
I love that you seem to think that a scientific debate should be "balanced". As if there can't be a right and a wrong side to the agrument based on the facts.
Now we have a school board that wants to make sure that their curriculum regarding climate change is politically balanced.
http://www.desmogblog.com/california-town-s-schoo...
Reminiscent of the creation of the universe debacles, teachers will now be required to teach “opposing views” because conservative board members are “concerned that ‘liberal’ faculty members could skew lessons on global warming”, according to local news coverage.
It might be okay to teach climate skepticism if it indeed was taught and identified as climate misinformation that industries deliberately use to confuse the public, not as just a “dissenting opinion”. However this doesn’t appear to be the case here.
Essentially meaningless. 95% of the Greenhouse effect is caused by WATER VAPOR not CO2. CO2 only accounts for 3.6% of greenhouse gases. Man-made CO2 only accounts for 3.2% of the total CO2 in the atmosphere. All together, human contributions of CO2 only account for 0.12% of the greenhouse effect.
The earth's climate has been changing for 4 BILLION years with very wide swings in CO2 and average temperatures never exceeding 22 degrees C, all before humans ever emerged on the scene. To suggest that human activity is suddenly driving our climate off a cliff based on very miniscule changes in both temperature and man-made emissions is at best PREPOSTEROUS.

How about Daryl Issa… the man who believes that God promised there would not be another flood and that therefore the earth will not experience another great flooding.
Only a limited amount of water vapour can be added to air before it becomes saturated. The amount of water vapour in the atmosphere is essentially unchanged over the past 4 billion years.
CO2 on the other hand can and is being increased due to human activity.
Just wondering if you ever read "Scientific American". I used to read it in the 70s. It's got lots of science in it. Why don't you try to educate yourself before just making ridiculous blanket statements.
I guess the non-hypocritical thing for an environmentalist to do would be to go live in a cave somewhere and let you honest folk run life on earth into the ground. Is that not your hope?
Do you think Rush agrees with what you say??
I remember the first Earth Day in 1970. It was about conserving resources and getting away from fossil fuels. And enjoying Mother Nature.
Climate change (formerly Global Warming, before that Global Cooling) is just one of those great ideas simply too good not to use. A modern version of how many angels will fit on the head of a pin. We (some government) can use climate change to do whatever we want: its for your own good. Trust us. We would not lie to you.
The climate is changing. Yep, no reason for it not to. Ice ages come and go. Hot times come and go. The Earth was hotter/cooler/dryer/wetter what ever you want. it to have been. Humans, no humans, some humans, what ever.
There is no reason that I know if why the Earth's climate should be fixed. I hear that climate change is a scientific fact, but every opponent of global warming was either systematically ignored or trashed. Climate science is the modern equivalent of examining bumps on a skull to determine criminality. No opposition (because we refuse to acknowledge them), why I get to say anything I want (like the Alps will be ice free in 10 years).
And is the atmosphere currently "saturated" with water vapor, unable to take on more? NO. Nor is your assertion correct that water vapor has been constant.
"[Wallace Broecker, a geochemist at Columbia's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory] research indicates that air reaching glaciers during the last Ice Age had less than half the water vapor content of today. Such increases in atmospheric moisture during our current interglacial period would have played a far greater role in global warming than carbon dioxide or other minor gases.
'I can only see one element of the climate system capable of generating these fast, global changes, that is, changes in the tropical atmosphere leading to changes in the inventory of the earth's most powerful greenhouse gas– water vapor.' – Dr. Wallace Broecker, R. A. Daly Lecture at the American Geophysical Union's spring meeting in Baltimore, Md., May 1996. "
i call B***S***. you're actually trying to argue that scientists, even the really, really smart ones with really, really cool gadgets, can determine with any useful degree of accuracy the rate of change of CO2 release during what they claim to be a reasonably analogous brief period 56 MILLION YEARS AGO??????? WHEN WE DON"T REALLY HAVE EVEN ACCURATE TEMPERATURE RECORDS GOING BACK MORE THAN ABOUT 150 YEARS ????? at best, AT BEST, that's gonna be a semi-educated wild a$$ guess, and i'm not willing to completely destroy our way of life over such thinly supported Chicken Little alarmist crap. get back to me when "scientists" can accurately predict the weather more than a day or so out…
as i said, B*** S***.
ah yes, the "we know with certainty what happened 56 million yrs ago, but don't know what actual temperatures were even 500 yrs ago, nor do we know with any certainty what tomorrow's weather will be. based on that devastatingly convincing argument, we'd like to completely re-order your socio-economic systems. c'mon, trust us! what could go wrong?"
thanks, but i'll pass…
The rate of change of CO2 is based on the carbon isotope excursion as recorded in marine organic matter. You don't need to know the temperature 56 million years ago. You can get an indication of the CO2 by comparing the ratios of different carbon isotopes in sedimentary carbonates from that time period.
We find that the total magnitude of the carbon isotope excursion in the ocean–atmosphere system was about 4‰. We then force an Earth system model of intermediate complexity to conform to our isotope record, allowing us to generate a continuous estimate of the rate of carbon emissions to the atmosphere. Our simulations show that the peak rate of carbon addition was probably in the range of 0.3–1.7 Pg C yr−1, much slower than the present rate of carbon emissions.
CHANGE YOUR HEARING AID BATTERIES!
You know, for an English scold, you have terribly poor reading and comprehension skills. Where in the world did you get "environmentalists" from "people whose industries sell news and entertainment"?
You've never made a mistake – not once? Baloney.
You must be the absolute life of the party with that smug attitude of yours.
How about Tony Weiner, The Man Who Believes in His Own Pud?
Dear PT,
Thank you for the favor of your reply!
My only real gripe is with the ones who refuse to accept proven zero carbon energy – hydro and atomic power. Many people do believe human CO2 emissions are harmful, and they support atomic power. That's a position that makes sense!
To oppose energy sources that resolve the stated concerns is foolish and undermines their case.

Dear Sharp,
You're right! I am sorry, and humbly apologize to anyone offended by an application of common sense!

I love that you think that a thesis that fails to meet any of the usual criteria should be accorded the status of "science" — and indisputable science, at that.
Like a fish growing legs?
That's great, have you brought it to canuks attention?
