Update: Politico corrected this piece and issued the following statement:
CORRECTION: This story was altered to reflect that O’Keefe and Basel are on pre-trial release, not probation or parole, as was stated in an earlier version.
We thank them for their diligence.
**

In Kenneth P. Vogel’s piece “James O’Keefe says next video ‘ready to go,’” published by Politico on February 18th, there are a number of factual errors that ought to be corrected. The problematic sentences are identified in block quotes with explanations of the errors beneath each quote:
O’Keefe – who had to get permission from his parole office to attend CPAC – told POLITICO he wasn’t sure if the terms of his probation would allow him to remain in Washington to accept the award or would require him to return to his parents’ home in New Jersey.
There are multiple problems in this sentence. First, Mr. O’Keefe did not need “permission from his parole office to attend CPAC,” as he has never been paroled. We’re not sure Mr. Vogel meant “parole office” or “parole officer” (the latter makes more sense since O’Keefe does not own or operate a New Jersey parole office), but the claim is factually inaccurate either way. The lead entry for the word “parole” at dictionary.com is, “the conditional release of a person from prison prior to the end of the maximum sentence imposed.” In other words, in order to be paroled, one must first be convicted and sentenced. Mr. O’Keefe, of course, is still pending trial. In a statement to BigJournalism.com, Mr. O’Keefe said he was granted permission to attend CPAC from a “pretrial services officer” from the New Jersey Pre-Trial Services Agency. The role of the officer assigned to him is to “investigate defendants who are charged with federal crimes and awaiting a court hearing.” The operative word being “charged.” Politico’s characterization of Mr. O’Keefe implies a conviction.
Second, Mr. O’Keefe is not on probation. According to the New Jersey Pre-Trial Services Agency, probation denotes “offenders who are convicted of crimes and awaiting sentencing.” Again, the Politico article contains language to imply Mr. O’Keefe has been convicted before he has even stood trial.
O’Keefe flashed his parole papers from the federal district court hearing his case – as did Joe Basel, 24, one of the three other activists arrested with him in New Orleans – as conference-goers walked by gawking and offering encouragement.
Neither Mr. O’Keefe nor Mr. Basel flashed parole papers, since, again, neither have been convicted, let alone paroled. In a statement released to BigJournalism.com, O’Keefe explained the papers he carries with him represent a Pre-Trial Services “signature bond.”
Whether intentional or unintentional, Mr. Vogel uses vocabulary throughout this article that implies that James O’Keefe and Joe Basel have been convicted of crimes relating to the January incident at Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu’s office. We consider these errors published by Politico particularly irresponsible considering the two men may be brought to trial for the legal matter discussed in this article.
We kindly request the issuance of formal corrections to all.

Keep it up, Retracto! (Aren't journalists supposed to care about the facts?)
Fine work…
"That'll do, alpaca. That'll do…"
Don't these people have fact checking or proofreading by peers before publishing? Good God Politico's going to have another Jason Blair on their hands if they aren't careful.
Ignorance or intentional bias…. hm?
Kenneth P. Vogel – Unprofessional Journalist Hack.
Congratulations, Mr Vogel, you are today's winner of the Lamestream Media Ass-Clown Award.
I'm sure your folks will be proud…
Love your work, you furry soft animal you.
They do–as they see 'em.
When "words" are your stock and trade, and you use them so flippantly…….Words cannot describe how "stoopidly" biased we think you are…
Obviously chosen to insinuate that James was "convicted" of wire tapping or…. pimping…
But they don't care about the facts. That is the point of BIGjournalism.com. They know headlines, first paragraph… all they need to do is suggest… and Wham guilty as charged.
Seriously, how do these "journalists" even get hired? I know a 16 year old who has more knowledge and common sense…
Vogel Andrew Brietbart was right you are a sorry excuse for a human being, as you intended, you 'article' borders the very legal edge of libel as you intended just like you Alinskyite Professors taught you, attack your opponent..
I hope you slipped up somhere an James O'keef gets to sue your no good ass for everything you've got.
Retraco: the hardest-working Alpaca in the biz!
Thank you Retracto for your tireless work… And it looks like your gonna be busy for a while. If you ever think its a thankless job DON"T, we thank you every time we see your furry face…
This just backs up my premise that the hacks who fled the WaPo to form the Politico blog did so because they didn't possess the basic skills required to remain working through repeated downsizings of the Post's ideological but otherwise competent newsroom.
While there are a great many in the current admin who frankly should be locked up and maybe never paroled. James is not one of them. One should probably spend his time trying to get justice from the Obama admin. We have had our fortunes stolen and used to finance a personal agenda. The entire Obama admin is rife with criminality, The man should be arrested and convicted simply for stating he wishes to ignore the constitution. The proceeding in an attemp to do so.
Usually Politico tells it mostly like it is, with a little more left slant, IMO. But they are a good source for info.
I'm surprised they missed the basics on this.
Politico is letting it's lefty freak flag FLY!
Those GLARING MISTAKES should have weeded out in editing. They weren't.
AGENDA ANYONE?
You're assuming anyone reads what another poster writes, before it's published.
Obviously, that's not the case. For anyone reading that one should pick up on that basic mistake.
I think it's just a stupid mistake, from a person who lacks attention to detail.
Assuming they're journalists, and not just bubba bloggers.
POLITICO KENNETH VOGEL INTERVIEW WITH — Malia Obama, Barack and Michelle’s daughter:
VOGEL: “Malia, your mother, Michelle, says you’re rear end is too big and you are on probation from school. Now, don’t you want to help your daddy and mommy by being a good example?”
MALIA: “Hey… wait a minute… my they said WHAT?”
VOGEL: “They said you got junk in your trunk.”
MALIA: “Mmm…. I see, well, I guess you do have to be a little smart about what you eat. For instance, just before this interview, I overheard Mommy and Daddy say they think Oprah is a fat pig dumber than you because she ate Rosie O’Donnell.
.
Use to post on Politico… lot of good posters there, And a lot of trolls looking for a fight. Their stories? Irrelevant. Just petty analysis of the current DC drama. Are the writers left?…. Of course… And the BIG sites will leave them in the dust.
I don't believe they just missed the basics, but are busted for deliberately twisting a fact into a lie for smearing the creditably of a person who is actively resisting their ideological assault on mainstream American values.
No, it's published piece on Politico's site. They must have editors that look at a story before it goes out on a major site like Politico.
There are journalistic standards. That's the whole reason A.B. has to employ a furry, warm, fuzzy alpaca – to see that these stupid mistakes are CORRECTED.
If I post a screw up, nobody cares – when a major site does it – that's an issue – GO RETRACTO!
Cool. My bad. http://www.politico.com/aboutus/
Agreed. They are a once every few days read/checkout. Mostly dear leader lovers over there.
This is exactly why I stopped reading POLITICO! They're on Obama's payroll and NOW, I am convinced they are the reason for giving me so much indigestion. I'm sure, with the entries of Andrew B’s BIG’S and PJTV, it's hurting their ad revenue… and that's a GOOD thing.
de nada…
Mr. Vogel sounds like an idiot, and one with an agenda on top of it.
Politico needs to tighten up…BIG TIME!
Ooooh, a big one! For all the griping about Politico being left wing, it is usually more fair than the rest of the MSM and at least factually accurate. Nice catch, Retracto!
Parole is a status imposed AFTER a trial and conviction. Dumbass Vogler hasn't a clue.
Please, why let pesky facts ruin the prescribed narrative, the lefty groupthink narrative. Thinking isn't required. If these lefty journo sheeple rose above bleeting they wouldn't have a job or friends in the herd.
Mr. Vogel's vocabulary with its disingenuous nuances and fact challenged hyperbole reflects not much more than that he is not very bright.
Shame on Politico for running this low level journalism.
Wow, isn't the truth so refreshing?
It's pretty simple when confronted with the truth. You either deny it, as is the case with most of the liberal loonies, or you embrace it.
As I tell my kids, and subordinates, you don't learn anything by doing it the right way. But if you don't learn from your mistakes, you will pay the price, as it will cost ya.
So was O'Keefe wearing that pimp outfit when he went into the Acorn offices or did he wear normal clothes and edit in the outside pimp shots later?
Looks like it's been corrected.
"CORRECTION: This story was altered to reflect that O'Keefe and Basel are on pre-trial release, not probation or parole, as was stated in an earlier version."
Jose beat me to it. Nice job, Retracto.
The only thing that would make Retracto funnier is if he had like a little sidekick. Hud and Lash need to come up with a Retracto cartoon, maybe have him stand in as Batman against the Baracker.
YAY!! Spitting in the eye of liars!! Ready….Aim…. Retracto!!
He went in dressed like that and the ACORN people were so anxious to help people evade taxes and enslave young girls to prostitution they never even suspected this was a set up. Duh, those people in ACORN should have AT MINIMUM SUSPECTED it was some kind of set up and tossed him out, but no they are too STUPID and too EAGER to rip off the working man with their misuse of tax dollars. If anyone dressed like that came up to me, I must say it would take a while to stop laughing, they'd lose interest in talking to me.
Rule number one: Never mess with an alpaca. Rule number two: Never forget rule number one.
Retracto gets Results.
Hello? Just how does someone edit in an outside pimp outfit in a video later?
You comment is bizarre.
Nice, Politico did the right thing.
Now if they'd just make sure an editor reads it before it's posted, then they won't make the mistake again.
Kudos for the prompt correction.
First Mad Max from Salon now this from Politico via Vogel. The lefts new media is stooping lower and is more desperate, I guess all is not well in Obamaland. Maybe they need to bring back the Styrofoam pillars. The people have forgot who their messiah is and are waking up from a bad kool-aid hangover. It's going to be a good time for the Conservatives!
Well I'm going to tell PETA about this. It really isn't right to make ONE alpaca do THAT much work. I think you probably need a complete herd of them considering how many retractions are necessary.
Soros.
.01………I'm not sure there were any interior shots of Jms in the video, I remember him in his pimp
garb in some exterior shots. Not 100% sure i'm correct.
Gee i wonder if the noise created by Big Journalism had any thing to do with the rapid correction of what was clearly an 'honest' mistake?
If that alpaca belonged to PETA, you could rest assured it would not survive very long.
http://petakillsanimals.com/
I will assume you are joking , as I would hate to think you could be so lame…
Those tapes were scrutinized more than the Zapruder film
Oy Oy Oy. This was taken an article on Breitbart:
Obama version of health reform expected Monday
Feb 21 03:25 PM US/Eastern
Here is what I just find hard to believe made it away from the editors desk and onto the wire:
"The White House's plan was expected to modify the bill passed by Senate Democrats last year, an effort to address the concerns of lawmakers in the House, where a more sweeping version passed with a comfortable majority."
A comfortable majority? Umm…unless I am recalling incorrectly, it barely made it past the House by a margin of *3* votes. 218 for when 215 are needed to pass anything. That is a "comfortable majority"???? It had *1* Republican vote, and many Democrats that voted against it. It took arm twisting by Pelosi to get it through the House.
It just makes me sick to my stomach that sort of shading of the truth is out there ALL the damn time. To be honest that sentence should have read:
"The White House's plan was expected to modify the bill passed by Senate Democrats last year, an effort to address the concerns of lawmakers in the House, where a more sweeping version passed with a *slight* majority."
I distinctly remember O'Keefe dressed in a jacket, white shirt and slacks in the video. He said he was a pimp.
Please. This is a non-issue except maybe to the rational-impaired.
You must not read Politico very often. They are getting more and more left wing with each article they write. On TV they can come accross as rational people but on their blog they are leftists. Some of their staff could not hold a job at a credible company.
It really isn't right to make ONE alpaca do THAT much work.
You said it. They should have a six-paca, at least.
/rimshot
You're a case.
When Politico pimped for Think Progress and Media Matters they showed their hand. They were among the first to start publishing private information about Joe The Plumber and didn’t even pretend to have a reason for destroying him. Then there were the attacks on Senator Sessions(R)for supposedly saying nice things about the Klan, a tale curiously started by the uber-leftist British paper, The Guardian aka Al Guardianista. The closest Sessions ever came to saying nice things about the Klan was when he wished Senator Byrd (D) good morning. Politico again attacked Sessions for supposedly unfairly targeting black civil rights workers on election fraud charges when he was a federal prosecutor (acorn anyone). Politico hearts ACORN, Sessions and James are therefore automatic targets. Many more stories but none got their vitriol as much as Sarah Palin. Sarah caused the swine flu stuff…
I notice a lot of Politico stories are disseminated quickly and effortlessly through them to the MSM. It’s almost as though there’s an organized agit-prop operation being run out of the White House. Thereagain, I’m sure it’s just my imagination. heh
I don't think they made a mistake. I think it was a deliberate attempt to smear someone whose politics they don't like. Glad to see the liberal propagandists are finally being challenged.
Thanks for correcting Politico as they've been getting away with soooo much smearing since they arrived on the scene. I think they arrived the day GW was sworn in…where'd they get their start-up funding one might wonder.
NUT SACK!
Question: REV Al and Jesse have been arrested many times. Are they felons? Can they vote [legally...........not a dozen times black ACORN style]? Just "axing"……………….
Bloody BRILLIANT…!!
EPIC win…deserving of much more than the +1 I can award you…
I love that alpaca…..
I think the "ignorance" part is generous on retracto's part. Saving Face.
A Republican insider who wishes to remain anonymous tells Jonathan Martin that Retracto has been playing the field and leaving a lot of broken hearts of wives/beards of Democrat politicians and Democrat media operatives in his wake.
I LOVE you, Retracto! smmmmoooooches…..
Gooooooo Retracto!
Uh, actually, having 435 members, the House needs 218 to pass anything.
It's probably just that when I go and checkout Politico, and read the headlines, I"m only reading the articles of interest to me.
You are most likely entirely right, as I really don't have time to read leftist drivel, and as you know, usually those are apparent by the article/thread titles.
For example, I'll go over to HuffPo once a month or so, usually to check out the credibility of an article written about something on that horrid site, and it's easy to determine what they're all about, and it isn't journalism.
Nothing new hear, the press convicts those that get in their way, they do it all the time…..it's the American way. The press convicts and demonizes. So they are just doing their job! Oh, you say they are supposed to be a news organization. No, they quit doin that long ago when they decided they could make more money selling out America to further an agenda that benefited them! If you want news, you gotta to go the internet or Fox!
The original concept of the Politico seemed promising in its first months. But it's become the political gossip/slander rag of PopMedia. To be fair they are under the gun to bloviate every day. Filler content required…so we see that maybe the Kennedys aren't finished after all….or why JONATHAN ALLEN – former Politico content filler, returns to Politico after working for the annoying Florida Dem Debbie Wasserman for 40 days and 40 nights. Yes, Allen's 40 day foray into Above board partisanship was as worthy of a story as 90% of Politico's filler content.
This is a major sticking point with liberal trolls. Something they incessantly scream about on other blogs and message boards. They think the pimp outfit James wears in a few outside scenes is cause to show that everything was heavily-edited and therefore the evidence is bogus.
They don't want to believe that ACORN could ever be dishonest (ha ha ha) or attempt anything illegal.
So if James is in a pimp outfit at some point, this gives them cause for GREAT CONCERN and gnashing of teeth in their liberal, hand-wringing, cry-baby kind of way.
Readers of Politico's comments (like say…. me, for example) can't help but notice the liberals screaming about the "right slanted news" while conservatives are swearing they "won't be back because you've become a liberal-agenda shill site."
I see some slant, mostly depending on the writer's views, but IMHO I do believe Politico has swerved somewhat left.
Thanks Politico. All the others need to retract/revise who have mis-reported.
Today I posted on Politico, about the bringing back a writer (Jonathan Allen) who'd previously left to work for Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (Moonbat – FL).
So Politico posts my response 4 times!
Why?
So I'd look like a right-wing nut wacko, that's why.
(I know I only clicked "commit" once, so they have a lefty slant that's obvious to anyone on the right.)

Bad move by Retracto — "pre-trial release" (i.e. they're alleged felons) looks WORSE Than "on parole" (i.e. paying their debt to society). Retracto should have let this one slide. I think it's time that a qualified veterinary professional put down Retracto .
Why aren't conservatives suing over false allegations and character assassination? I just don't get it.
