In an article published May 28th at CBSNews.com by Carlin DeGuerin Miller, it is twice alleged that James O’Keefe and three activist colleagues plead guilty to attempting to tamper with the phones in Sen. Mary Landrieu’s New Orleans offices. First, in the headline:
“James O’Keefe and Co. Plead Guilty to Tampering with Senator’s Phones”
And again in the body of the article:
O’Keefe and three cohorts pleaded guilty Wednesday to dressing up as telephone repairmen in order to tamper with the phones in Sen. Mary Landrieu’s (D-La.) office.
O’Keefe and company pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor crime of entering a federal building under false pretenses. As Patterico pointed out in a similar correction request to New York Magazine issued yesterday, “the government couldn’t prove that he attempted to tamper with the phones in Landrieu’s office — which is why the charges were reduced to the far less serious misdemeanor charge.”
We kindly ask CBS News to issue a formal correction.

I am certain that I am not alone here when I say "Enough!". Yes, we all admire James O'Keefe (and Beautiful Hannah) for exposing ACORN. We get that he is a sure up-and-comer. But, do we really need 10? 15? 20? updates on the current story? Too much space is being consumed here on this. It almost approaches the Crucifixion and Resurrection in terms of allocated resources. I love the Bigs, but this is a bit much… I am clicking elsewhere when I see this kind of overload. Please, a little sense of proportion here…
You might not be alone….. but I for one, love this stuff and am willing to see it go on until all the liars apologize and ot retract.
James and the type of work he does is a powerful weapon in the media battle. One that we can ill afford to lose. If we allow him to be diminished and discredited, we lose the opportunity to have more like him. If we win with him, we will get more.
America deserves the truth! If these people are willing to lie to make Mr. O'Keefe look bad, they should be called on it. They're supposed to be informing the American public. Not lying to us. I say, every chance that comes along, these people should be called on it, attention brought to their lies until they are forced to retract and apologize. Maybe, someday, they'll learn to tell the truth.
Look at it this way, this needs to be pointed out and corrected at every opportunity otherwise history gets re-written facts be damned.
"Please, a little sense of proportion here… "
I think it is great too. Read some of my substantive posts on other topics. No hate intended, but when I load this site and the first FIVE stories are all the same topic, and I have seen SO MANY between here and Big-G, it is a bit of overkill. Dont'cha think? Now, if the first five expose's were (respectable) pic shoots of Hannah G., I might not complain at all… Some things never get old…
I'd say about 1/5 of any week is dedicated to one of these type of super-stories, whether it's SEIU at a banker's house or eggs being thrown or O'Keefe's antics. I do not think these stories are necessarily bad, but I agree that they get a little over-excited about these things sometimes.
I get hammered for pointing out that this guy has had an Obama-like smothering of coverage? Did you miss the part where I praised his intelligence, vision and dedication?(Posted on yet another, but earlier version of this same story). I love the guy, but I don't need 5(!!!!!) stories in a row about this.
Every opportunity? FIVE in a ROW is not too much? I just want room for more variety. I got the point after the first, and a follow-up, story. Overkill is something I would hope the Right would seek to avoid…
I get your point. However, if there were more than one O'Keefe out there digging for the truth, we'd have a lot more to talk about.
Cuttin' bait and bailin'!. Nobody gets my point above. FNAS? (Friday Night Alcohol Syndrome?). Too much of a "good" thing can be irritating…
J O'K is all good in my book, but when is enough, well… enough?
Not to "bust GaltFan's chops", or anything…but I find it ironic that there are 10 comments on this thread, and half of them are GaltFan's…and they all say basically the same thing: He's tired of JO'K stories, because they all basically say the same thing… "too much of a…"
I probably wouldn't have noticed any other time, so I'm gonna blame it on FNAS.
…@ GaltFan: no offense intended, it just kinda smacked my funnybone a little…and BTW, I do get your point- even though I may disagree, I get it.
Not holding my breath waiting for a retraction.
This whole site is drowning in the same article – but it's O'Keefe who is at fault here for his lack of transparency. While true he was not convicted for phone tampering, it was an element of the story from the first second it broke in published accounts and I don't where O'keefe denied this to set the record straight.
According to the original reports, it was O'keefe and his pals who said the wanted access to the phone trunk and were arrested after a quck thinking staffer led them instead to the cops. If he is now saying he lied then, are we to believe they were going into the phone closet for nothing, or to film a goofy YouTube video?
The three activists should explain why the staffers said they wanted to see the phones as they wore imposter phone repair crew uniforms. I think they need today to deny they ever said that or accept that the media has a right to continue to say they wanted unlawful access to the senator's phones. Remember too that one guy's papa is a US Attorney so he is likely working his resources to ensure his son doesn't get prison time.
Even YOUR post, like CBS – is factually incorrect.
TWO guys were dressed as faux phone people, not three. See the problem here? DISINFORMATION being passed on and on. That's why the FACTS are soooooo stubborn, see?
If you're going to take a pot shot – GET IT RIGHT. It's called research.
Nah, I get it – you're cool. Most of want if not vindication atleast accrate reportage`. We know you do too, no biggy.
Go Hawks!

JamesB to the rescue! I was never criticizing J O'K, just the avalanche of coverage on the "Bigs". "thinker67" got the irony of my prolific posting on the subject. CarCon is near! Mail to follow soon…
Chops intact, irony added to. 'least I introduced the notion of a beautiful gal in mentioning Hannah G. No offense taken. Up to 6 of the "first" 13 now. Can ya hear me now Bigs?
Peace to T67, and to all a good night…
Alrighty then…I'm about to start getting the car ready to go.
If you want to see BS, watch CBS.
I was thinking the exact same thing this week. Way too much space on EVERY site on this story. We all got it from the start and supported it. Can the BIGS just post ONE story on ONE Big site to give us an update. I've been pretty upset as well GaltFan, so you are not alone.
I'm sure the AB will take constructive feedback. If you post a story on Big J, you don't have to post the same thing on the others….. you are just filling space which disappoints us all. We get it about James & Hanna…… let's move on to their next adventure in exposing more corruption.
Agreed. But then, they are here to point out the hypocrisy of the media.

Given the facts of the case – and how they have been, not only ignored but completely changed by those who are supposed to be reporting facts, I have no problem with each and every publication that is practicing in deception being called out for who and what they really are.
I say that they need to be hammered on and if that takes story after story that will never be seen anywhere else then I'm all for it.

What fascinates me is that the MSM is so careful about political correctness. They've had lawyers helping typesetters for decades.
They are careful to parse words with phrases like "It is believed…" and "According to unnamed sources…"
So this slam against James is obvious. Maybe they hope to tie up his time and money to prevent more projects that embarrass the so-called journalists.
To many articles on Media Lying regarding O'keefe? I don’t think so. Each article took a different perspective and called out a different media source. The articles combined did a good job of tracking the sources. There was a feeding frenzy in the press and as "Big" readers we all saw it for what it is but if the big sites report from the assumption that all their readers already know the facts then readership would drop like rocks. Good articles and good news outlets speak to a broad base bring them in and bring them up to speed. There is another consideration as well, search engines, the more stories- the more clicks- the more links. the higher one moves in the search engine results. Consider the surprise of an uninitiated scrolling through search results and seeing a story or two of major media manipulation.
I do not read everything at the "Bigs" sometimes I don’t click the more button. Sometimes I feel i know more then a particular author on a subject or reject their opinion. Scrolling down the page to find an article that interests you is really not to much to ask is it? "Bigs" do what you do your building an empire and so far its working.
The entire purpose of Big Journalism is to expose how the Media is biased and unethical.
I would rather read two dozen stories about real world examples of media bias then a fluff peice like a faux letter from David Axelrod's office, etc.
"it was an element of the story from the first second it broke"
Only because the left and MSM/MinTruth *invented* that part of their "story."
Nice to see you at work, Retracto…I missed you…

Now here is an interesting quote that I just came across.
"In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act."
Guess who penned that bit of wisdom………..
George Orwell !!!
Of course I'm not retracto, but I wanted to say it's good to see YOU Mjolnir, haven't seen you in awhile!

Maybe with their falling circulation, they can't afford fact checkers?
It sounds like CBS has impeached the unimpeachable James Okeefe. Are they still stuck on stupid? Impeachment, how I have come to enjoy the term, savor the thought of Obama's castigation, excoriation, defrocking and lengthy incarceration. But more lustily do I covet the collateral damage to his co-conspirators and enablers, those who have made corruption ordinary, predictable and 'the way' of this administration. There is a federal gallows in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. It appears to be in good condition, servicable and will make a fine model for installation in the Rotunda.
Alien,
Not to belittle the O'Keefe story at all, but your post also speaks to another example of "just barely legal" misleading articles by MSM. Today's AP headline on AZ reads "THOUSANDS PROTEST AGAINST AZ IMMIGRATION LAW." But the story goes on to point out that TWO SEPARATE events, ONE FOR, ONE AGAINST drew thousands of protesters to AZ. And only protesters at the rally AGAINST the law were pictured. In point of fact thousands more met in Tempe to SUPPORT the law.
Misleading head, misleading photo….but then a "legal hedge" sentence or two about the OTHER protest" keeps AP from having to retract anything while still giving folks the impression that the bill is "unpopular" despite the fact that 70% of AZ citizens support it, and I think 60% of the country.
Also, NOT ONE OUTLET has reported that the AZ bill is LESS HARSH than the federal law. Under federal law POLICE DON'T HAVE TO HAVE A REASON TO STOP YOU. Whether you break a law first or not, under the federal law, you can be stopped ANYTIME and asked to produce proper ID.
I'd love to see a side by side comparison of the AZ bill and the Fed gov't law on this site. It would of course KILL the whole profiling angle, as the feds law LEGALIZES profiling. I thought there was such a thing as a sin of OMISSION, but what do I know. I'm just a hick from flyover country.
And anyway why let facts get in the way of a great smear job, right? All part of the spin game.
Where did I say all three guys wore fake costumes? Reread my sentence and you'll see you jumped to an erroneous conclusion James, grammatically and factually, my sentence says only "they", meaning their crew, wore fake costumes which is true. So by saying I was factually incorrect, you were factually incorrect.
But it's such a minor point it's almost useless to mention in clutching for excuses for defending this convicted criminal partisan propagandist.

Don't mess with Retracto and his crew : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gZ0×8AVaBI&fe...
The important factor in the headline,…..
“James O’Keefe and Co. Plead Guilty to Tampering with Senator’s Phones”,…..
is the fact that he did indeed pleaded guilty,…..
the fact that it was a misdemeanor and not a felony,….and,…
false pretense (WOW) and not phone tampering is just simply,……….
way to much detail for the average American to comprehend.
O'Keefe was convicted:'…… unfortunately will be the lasting imprint of this episode
Lucky you, an evening with Horowitz, how great was that?! Good luck Tuesday
