Over the past several months I have had the honor of being Big Journalism’s official Correction Alpaca. I’ve requested over two dozen corrections at Big Journalism and many others on Big Hollywood, Twitter, and via email. Some of the news organizations I’ve addressed have done their journalistic duty and set their respective records straight, while others have neglected to fulfill this journalistic responsibility. Others still have delivered what Patterico refers to as “stealth corrections,” that is, where a post is corrected without formal acknowledgment by the publication that the public record had been amended. We acknowledge there is a time and place for this, but it’s done far, far, far too often in the internet age.

If you recall, my responsibilities as Correction Alpaca commenced in order to alert the blogosphere of the mainstream media’s culpability and ineptitude in its mostly incorrect reporting of the James O’Keefe caper at Senator Landrieu’s Louisiana office earlier this year. As of Wednesday, this saga, dubbed “Watergate Jr.,” by MSNBC has come to an end, with O’Keefe pleading guilty to mere misdemeanor charges of entering federal property under false pretenses and getting a proverbial “slap on the wrist” sentence.
So, in memory of “Watergate Jr.,” I would like to draw your attention to these sites, which at the time of this publication, still have published unforced errors regarding the prank in New Orleans:
Newsweek
The Los Angeles Times
The Atlantic…
The Huffington Post
MSNBC
Daily Kos
The Hill
The New York Daily News
The Dallas Morning News
The Greensboro News & Record
David Shuster, MSNBC
Keith Olbermann, MSNBC
National Journal
Other sites, such as the Huffington Post, the New Jersey Star-Ledger, and particularly the New Orleans Times-Picayune stealth-corrected posts but failed to issue correction updates. The Times-Picayune was likely the originator of the endless stream of lies and misinformation spread about O’Keefe and his activist colleagues during the Louisiana affair, as it was by far the most common source cited by other news outlets. Given that the misinformation advanced by their publication spread like a virus, the least they could do is own up to it.
We encourage you to contact these publications, their authors, and editors. These corrections are still a worthwhile pursuit and serve to provide an even greater check on the negligent and often rancorous mainstream media.

Don't they (the MSM) get we ADMIRE him? He's bravely fighting against liberal injustices, lies and propaganda. The more the MSM spreads blatant mis-information, the more we're encouraged to see O'Keefe's "tarnished" reputation as a metaphorical martyr to The Cause.

Easy now… Metaphorical martyr… *wince* (nothing wrong with your post just made me wince is all)
Mr Retracto Al paca
I wouldn't hold my breath for these classless libtard publications to issue retractions
That's because they are classless, libtard publications…
Kinda like Obama and Co.
How symptomatic of the piss poor press's condition that they would collectively mis-report a story in a way to THEIR liking and REFUSE to fix it.
At the same time they're IGNORING an impeachable offense in the "Sestack Affair".
Retracto – sharpen those teeth.
Is it any wonder that the dinosaurs are flailing in the La Brea tar pits or their coming irrelevence? Hmmmm?
Jb
Has Sestack started back-peddling yet?
Before this time this sorry saga is done, Sestack will be begging Obama to come campaign for him…
HehHeh…
Add mediaite.com to that list: http://www.mediaite.com/online/james-okeefe-plead...
It wasn't a breakin
Et, tu Fox News. Granted, a local: http://www.fox8live.com/news/local/story/Landrieu...
I've heard talk that this affair has the potential to bring Obama crashing down. I'm cautious enough to require a lot more evidence before I believe it, but I think the best outcome possible for Obama is that several key advisers will probably go down, maybe even with jail time, and tarnish the administration big time. It would take a truly monumental effort by the Republicans in getting a special prosecutor and pushing through investigations to try and actually bring down Obama himself.
Question though, do any of you think Obama didn't know and approve of Rahm Emmanuel's offer to Sestak?
As lazy and ill-suited to the job as President Obama is, in something this politically important, I don't think Obama would want Rahm freelancing.
Ewald, I don't think Obama wants the job…just the perks…
I would bet my Ruger when all this is said and done, we find out Rahm "freelanced" a lot of the Oval Office, while Barry wore the nice suits, made the speeches, cut the ribbons, and ate the "rubber chickens", all while riding around in the plane taking the First Wookie out on dates…
Even with the example of Katrina fresh in everyone's mind, the Obama hung out the "Out to Lunch" sign on the Oval Office door on Louisiana, and blew off Nashville COMPLETELY…while he jokingly whined about having to show an ID while visiting Arizona…(my own private joke about that is the Border Patrol picks him up and holds him until the birth certificate shows up)…
You're probably right, Mjolnir. One guy thinks Obama's seen that this isn't going to get any easier, and cut a deal with Bill Clinton to have him take the fall in exchange for letting Hillary run opposed in 2012. I don't quite know if I'd believe Obama would throw away a try at reelection. He loves the fawning attention way too much, and once you're done running for president you're never that much in the spotlight ever again. If his core Obama zombie supporters decide he's the empty suit everyone else is starting to know he is, then I believe he'll bow out.
BTW, what caliber is your Ruger? I got a 9MM semi-auto.
Retracto, you are executing a needed service of correcting major media reporting errors, omissions, and falsehoods. I have a suggestion that you may already be doing, if that is so, I'm just a little behind the curve:
Along with each request for correction to a major media outlet, accompany the request with a cc to the schools of journalism and organizations such as the Poynter Institute.
Other than this, I wish my user name could be posted as Sean Shryne instead of SeanShryne. Makes me feel a bit crowded.
Keep up the good work.
One of those old Security-Sixes: stainless, in .38/.357…camping gun, it takes abuse really well…its also got one of the strangest Pachmayr grips on it I've ever seen…clear silicone; you can see right through to the cad-plated steel forms the grip screws fasten into…
As to the other…I just get the feeling it isn't all the unicorns and rainbows flying out his ass Obama thought it would be…that and the temperature is steadily rising on him…
