The best war journalist of our time has been kicked out of Afghanistan and the media could not care less.
Let the administration boot Helen Thomas out of her seat in the front of a White House press conference and there would be outrage. Remove Jonathan Karl from the Capitol and media would revolt. Kick Andrea Kremer off Sunday Night Football and there would be pandemonium.

And yet nobody in the media seems to have much of a problem with Michael Yon being removed from the front lines by Obama/General McChrystal. Yon has openly stated the problems in Afghanistan right now and how we could lose this war, unless changes are made. He has been critical of the current rules of engagement that have put our troops in danger and could actually make this war like the Vietnam that the leftist media claimed it was early and often when Bush was president (it’s strange you don’t hear those comparisons from them anymore).
Yon’s reward? He’s lost his embed status, banished to Bangkok. Yon could return but his access might be limited and you can’t just pop in and out of that theater like it’s the neighborhood movie palace. Mess with Yon enough and his resources wear thin, but his patience will not. You will not stop this soldier. He is the ultimate warrior for those who fight and die for this country. His reports are honest, chilling, gripping and are as reflective of the battles they represent as anything I have ever read. But this administration is making it as difficult for him to do his job. You can’t believe this is by accident. The most critical battle in Afghanistan is about to take place, the battle for Kandahar, and the voice of the American soldier is not allowed in.

I’ve seen reporters stand shoulder to shoulder with other reporters in situations that seem downright silly when compared to what we’re talking about here. At a boxing news conference years ago one of the fighters didn’t like a certain reporter and didn’t want him there—so he kicked him out. Those of us in the media departed together in a show of support. I’ve been kicked out of an NBA locker room, and watched the rest of the media join me in exodus. The media even stood by Fox News when the Obama Administration went after them last year. The media usually stand together on these issues, but not in this case.
They should exhibit one-tenth of the courage that Michael Yon has by standing up and demanding some answers as to why this administration is essentially shutting out a badly needed voice of reason and honesty in Afghanistan. If there is any time that the American public needs someone in country to give us an honest assessment of what is happening there it’s right now — and that man is Michael Yon. Are honest assessments something that makes this administration uncomfortable?
Stand up in a show of force and find out exactly why Yon is not where he wants to be and where he should be right now. Yon has always offered his spot-on reporting and remarkable photographs free of charge to other media. They have taken advantage of that, rightly so. He survives on donations and is a truly independent voice in the war zone.
As we near this Memorial Day and we think of the ultimate sacrifice that has been given by those who serve, my challenge to the media who can’t wait to get to the Indy 500, the picnics at the parks, and the parades, is to man up and demand to know of this administration why the voice of the soldiers has been silenced in Afghanistan.

"Are honest assessments something that makes this administration uncomfortable?" In a word……Hell Yes!!!!!! American warriors would win against ANYBODY, ANYTIME if allowed by our political leaders. Michael Yon's truthful, selfless service should be heeded and celebrated instead of banishment and the muted sound of crickets from other media members. A sad irony that the bravery and courage of Michael Yon is juxtaposed by the cowardness and ignobility of this administration.
They will shut up anyone that is a true journalist. Thats the way of Communist-Progressives and this country is full of them, especially Lame Stream Media. Michael Yon will live on in history no matter what the hell they do to him.
The gov't and LSM won't do squat. But we can! Go to his site and buy his books to give as gifts. The are amazing, and probably the most comprehensive history of these two wars anyone will EVER WRITE.
SUPPORT GOOD JOURNALISM! Maybe the media will grab a clue when his books start showing up all over the place instead of their "special photo spreads" on the war or their sooooper dooper analysis of the situation…which they arrived at from their offices stateside.
SUPPORT MICHAEL! REWARD GOOD REPORTING AND THE BEST PHOTOGRAPHIC ANTHOLOGY OF THESE WARS EVER MADE. THEY AREN'T EXPENSIVE…..HELL….THEY'RE PRICELESS!
This administration has a huge problem with truth and honesty. If General McChrystal had a hand in attempting to silence Yon, that would be disturbing. It is not surprising at all that the administration would seek to muzzle him. If more people become aware of the rules of engagement, more questions are going to be raised and Obama will be made to look weak. This can not be allowed, he is The One.
Ron, as a reporter I am sure you know more of the story than what you have presented here. Michael Yon has been an Honorable man along with many that have served in the same Military capacity in SOF. Michael's dispatches have been the best of any reporter showing the world a small slice of life of coalition forces on the front lines. The issue Michael is facing now though were caused by his facebook and twitter statements. These were major attacks on General McCrystal and the ISAF upper levels. Michael does not see things the same as Command, Michael does not have the same Intel or the same orders as upper Command.
Even Mil-bloggers that have strong SOF background have questioned what Michael has posted on facebook and twitter. You may want to look into this story a little deeper. I myself supported Michael's "Dispatches," but I do not support his facebook and twitter attacks on our Command. Michael needs some time to think about what is best for him first and take a good look at himself. He has a lot of buddies extending a hand to him. I hope he takes this opportunity to grab ahold of them, they are there to help.
They'll start caring about Michael Yon getting the boot from Afghanistan right around the same time they start caring about Michael Savage getting banned from setting foot in Great Britain.
*sigh*
Yon was "banished" from Afghanistan, only to find himself in the middle of another great story in Bangkok. A reporter's dream, I'd say!
I would add that he called the milbloggers some pretty vile names, too.
Michael Yon? Oh he’s that guy who writes stuff for Breitbart.
You know, Brietbart. Just the other day Brietbart.com broke the story of the century with the capture of Mullah Omar. The report had zero details but, man, what a scoop. As expected, the capture of Mullah Omar was not reported by that slanted, biased Lame Stream Media – but with this scoop, even Fox News or The Drudge Report failed to report one peep of this huge Mullah Omar story. After a few days have passed, now this story is dead and forgotten. Obviously, there is a Big Cover-up (hey a new website name!) that all of the media including the biggest names in conservative news never reported. We the American people are being left out of the loop by denying us the events of the war on the Taliban. Maybe it was a case of cooperation by the media for the sake of national security? Or maybe only Breitbart has the courage to report the big, big stories? One thing is certain, that story had to be true.
There was the story of President Obama giving the order to call out the swat team to harass little old ladies in Quincy, Illinois. That was another Breitbart exclusive. More facts the people needed to know. And then there was that totally ignored by MSM story of the kid with the pimp hat who single-handedly linked a sitting President with a massive child-prostitution ring that the corrupt liars still deny and impeachment activity has halted to a standstill.
Now this President has the audacity to exclude Breitbart’s top war correspondent from reporting facts we need to know. Just as the esteemed patriot Ron Futrell brilliantly puts it in this article:
“…why this administration is essentially shutting out a badly needed voice of reason and honesty in Afghanistan. If there is any time that the American public needs someone in country to give us an honest assessment of what is happening there it’s right now — and that man is Michael Yon. Are honest assessments something that makes this administration uncomfortable?…”
The newest, trusted name in news is Breitbart, and sadly, our president seems to put his selfish interests ahead of our right to know.
ddaichiro, laying it on thick in the name of lameness, and still reading the blog.
"Who in the msm will stand up for Michael Yon?" No one in the MASTERS SOCIALIST MINIONS will stand up to their Master in any way shape or form. The 4th Estate is dead now, sold out by elite idiots drunk on Charismatic tainted Kool-Aid. Sadly they too late will discover the CHARISMA flavoring was only masking the STRYCHNINE.
Couldn't they simply ask him to remove his comments?
His photo "Little Girl", and the story behind it, was extremely moving. Obviously a dedicated man.
Oh yeah! "The most transparent administration never." B. Obama. Another situation gets piled in to that lie. This administration cannot afford the truth, it will hurt it even more than it already is and anything they can do to silence the truth they will do. Can this be argued as a Freedom of the Press, First Amendment issue? ACLU! Yoohoo! Over here! Can you look at this please? Oh, that's right, I forgot your the American Coalition for Libral Unity – silly me.

So, if reporting is a sport and i'm keeping score at home and playing by this administrations rules, the final score would read:
NYT 2 M.Yon -1
3 cheers for treason!!!
You're not telling the truth, Sanmon.
You're parroting the lines from the wanna-be gung ho types who sit in air conditioned luxury and pretend to be "mil-bloggers" while Yon is actually sleeping in the field with the soldiers.
Try some intellectual honesty.
THE POWERS THAT BE, are a powerful bunch (Cult)!!! The former enemies are now friends of the Rulers of America, of course they would kick a patriotic minded journalist out, away from the front lines, he and those like him are the new enemies!!! America belongs to them now, Obama is their leader, he has stolen home plate, they won the game!!!!! Soon the Taliban will be feasting in the White House!!!
Folks, I am a free-lance writer and a retired Army Reserve vet. I tip my hat to Michael Yon's guts and integrity…but more than simply tip my hat, I just sent him $20 via PayPal to help his expenses. Send him $5, $10, $20, or more…that's another way to send a message that you support independent journalism and ensure his voice is not stifled.
The Dem's won't be happy until they have another vietnam. What is Collin Powell thinking NOW, He was always about not getting into another Nam, especially concerning the Rules of Engagement and the aspect of Politicians running war from Washington.
Michael Yon was writing excellent dispatches on his own site (and continues to do so) long before the "Bigs" hit the 'net. His credibility is well known. I'm not sure how one of the Bigs carrying a Yon dispatch lessens his credibility, if that's what you're implying. Can you clarify?
Michael Yon is by far the best war journalist that I've read since Vietnam (where I was a MACV-accredited journalist). he is smart, brave, honest, and humping the ground. Whatever pissed off McChrystal must have had some truth in it or Yon would still be in Afghanistan.
We need journalists who are with the troops and who tell the truth. The Manat fiasco should never have happened. Too many American soldiers are being killed by stupid ROE and command idiocy.
And where the hell is napalm to clear mountain and valley slopes of Taliban ambushes?
I had a dog in this show as my son was one of the first American soldiers to cross into Iraq in the early morning of 3/20/03. Other kids (now men) from our neighborhood served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Let them do their jobs and do them right, or retreat.
Tony, how is your air conditioner working? If you think Michael's facebook and twittering helped him out then we can honestly disagree with each other. As for "wanna-be gung ho types" they have slept in more dust and been in more sh!t than you and I have combined. So take your intellectual honesty and place it where the sun don't shine!
Idiot, Michael Yon is a Pulitzer-winning freelance journalist, who doesn't work for Breitbart or anybody else. He is, in the opinion of more folks than just myself, the finest American war correspondent since Ernie Pyle.

I suppose that's a good balance. His credibility offsets some of the garbage contributed by the losers. Here's hoping the "Bigs" can keep improving by eliminating some of the stooges and run more content that is thought provoking instead of liberal-bashing to appease the ditto-heads. And here's hoping the Michael Yon situation gets corrected soon.
Outstanding photography. God forbid we give people in the USA a glimpse of reality. F-ing p****ks.
They can try to silence us but they will NEVER "SHUT US UP" period. Go ahead and try RahmObama.

Its not all that simple… Michael Yon is posting on his Facebook right now. This is a post he is arguing about today: (Note that it's from April) http://blog.usni.org/2010/04/19/one-voice-is-a-he...
It does look like (from just an outside perspective).. that Michael Yon needs a serious vacation. I trust what he says.. but it also looks like he is getting himself into trouble.
Yon's remarks in that regard were credible.
Umm…one of the Blackfive guys specifically stated he's never embedded because he prefers to remain in the rear. He wrote that in an article where he lied about Yon.
And since you don't know me or anything about me, I suggest you maybe not cast your net quite as wide as you have.
BTW, Yon seems to be bored now. He's refuting B5 step by step, and he's also challenged them to provide proof of the crap they were spewing about him.
Get back to me after they fail, won't you?
Now, go stick your head back in that warm dark place you store it in and STFU.
No, it's that he's finally got some spare time to address the lying crap spewed about him by jealous "peers".
Hey copperpeony. Not related to this article but wanted to update you if you didn't hear already. Check out this link regarding an update on the topic we spoke about extensively.http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704...
Take care.
I have in my digital library dispatches from Yon that go back several years (can't specify here at the moment) but it can be verifiable. I signed on early with him and have contributed to his funding. Yon's been doing this way before the Bigs site cranked off. And Yon only recently submitted the same dispatches he normally sends out to the Big sites. If you're a subscriber to Yon's dispatches, you normally get it before the Bigs do.
I have supported Michael since before he became famous. Before more than just a handful even knew of his existance.
I have a few things to say.
First, you can't buck the Military for long, they have ingrained and long standing attitudes about "outsiders" or as far as that goes, even those who are active duty, bringing things to light, that they would rather be kept "in the family". Michael bucks this system and always has. This has earned him the treatment he has been subjected to. He pissed off the Brit. High Command by reporting their lack of support for their excellent Soldiers. He has pissed off the American Brass many times and gotten ill treated a few times for that. But this last go around with the "Bridge that should not have been destroyed" put Michael on notice that one more time and he was finished. His reporting on the Canadian General who mis-handled his weapon was that "one more time" and the Brass said, that it would be his last time.
Yes, Michael could have (and most likely should have) just cooled it when it came to his opinions about the Canadian screwups. But he didn't.
The second thing I would like to say is that Michael is human even though he has been very strong and a voice in the wilderness so to speak, he has been under tremendous pressure from being in war zones for a very, very long time, including actual combat with our troops and the Brits. If you don't think those extended conditions doesn't mess with your mind, you would be dead wrong. I endured less than two years of it and it messed my life up for years.
I'm not sure Michael will ever get back to being embedded with American or British troops, well maybe our Marines, they seem to buck the system too. As far as being in the war zone without being embedded, it is a very dangerous route to take. He could be kidnapped or killed very easily without the protection of our Warriors. Then there is the financial side of it. If he tries to go it alone it will cost him thousands of dollars a month. Bribes and payoffs are the norm in that part of the world. You can't get anything done or go anywhere with out them. Even with them there is no guarantee that you won't be double crossed at anytime and wind up in deep shinola.
We will just have to see what we will see and hope for the best for Michael and hope that he kicks it back a notch or two for his own sake.
There is such a thing as not pissing off the referees so you can stay in the fight. And I agree with an earlier commenter, I think he should take a vacation for awhile for his own sake.
Papa Ray
sooo, you don't like the slant of the Big sites? but which of the stories you mentioned were lies, intentional falsifications, or negligence?
And what does having Yon's articles picked up by the Bigs have to do with the quality of his work?
Just to remind you what real journalistic fraud is, look at this MSM number: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Jwg-f3dqN4&pl...
a story that had an impact on a volatile ongoing events, yet, no one was fired, no one was repremanded
Wow, Michael Yon is incredible.
http://www.michaelyon-online.com/
He is one of us. As a Nam vet, I truly admire his courage to tell it like it is while showing the humanity that is still a part of being a soldier. The story of the small girl is an excellent example of what all American soldiers feel during time of war. Children are precious and to be protected not hurt or killed. And when one is injured, it weighs heavily on his soul.
It is sad that he is no longer in Afghanistan. Until his return to the war, I will not believe anything our socialists in spin city east say. I can only speculate that his comments about being hamstrung by idiotic rules of engagement are causing injury and death to our courageous men and women in uniform. This was done to us in Nam, so I can understand and appreciate Yon's concern. After all he knows the real dangers associated with war. He has lived it on the front lines while others sat safely in the rear on their butts dispatching whatever the brass decided was appropriate for the sensitive ears of the general public.
While our military men and women are fighting Taliban and Al Quaida, trying to tiptoe between the streets maintaining low collateral damage and busting their asses to win the minds and hearts of the Iraqi and Afghani peoples, our Dhimmicratic administration along with the Dhimmi MSM fights our military in return. Again, our government puts our military personnel at risk for the sake of their own selfish political motives.
If ANYONE reads Micheal's dispatches, they would understand completely the value of his dispatches and the concerns he's successfully presented to the powers-that-be. And it's always been on behalf of our military and the mission in both theaters. He's brought to light, many circumstances that got lost within the cracks of politics and war that seem to go unnoticed. I would venture to say, his efforts saved many soldiers in the field. And since none of us walk in his shoes, we can't assume to know, much less understand what it's like to be Michael Yon right now.
Unfortunately, our government and possibly some in high-ranking military positions, have egos so big, it defies logic. Let a person like Yon come in and expose the realities and it tends to cramp their style. Can't have someone low in rank or authority come in and make the bosses look bad. Ego over responsibility…..it's all part of our Dhimmicratic leadership's way of life. And that's F'd up.

Really folks…nothing new to see here; just more of the same filtering and altering the truth with no hope of honest assessment. It pains me to see how many highly placed military figures are willing accomplices to the ditherer-in-chief in this disgusting cabal.
We can only hope that the Sestak issue elevates itself to impeachable status and we are finally done with Oprahbama and his minions
I have to go along with you that hiding the race of the gun holder wrong. MSNBC is intentionally left-leaning, not part of the Main Stream. If somebody reports news and isn't gaga over the right wing, then they are all part of the same entity with the common goal of slanting public opinion away from right wing ideals, masterminded by a big boogieman, George Soros or somebody? One thing (out of several) that disgusts me about conservatives is their obsession with blaming everything on others. It's called "whining."
Michael Yon is the only one responsible for being "kicked out" of Afghanistan. He has been irrisponsible in some of his reports (some of us think violating OPSEC) and has launched personal attacks against those he is supposed to be reporting on. He no longer deserve to be embedded with our (or any) military.
Go to Blackfive and read the last few posts on Yon and you will get a sample of what's really going on with him.
The author of the Op isn't Breit.
the msnbc clip was the most egregous example that is readily available and easy to demonstrate.
nobody likes whinners. the GOP is responsible for half the mess we are currently in. they have much to atone for. thats what tea parties are doing, the mark rubio and a dozen other races are trying to make the GOP pay for years of conservative lipservice, but enacting big government policies.
However, complaining about something real is not whinning, if its true. Soros really is the billionaire sugar daddy who bought the DNC and funds dozens of anti-american, pro globalist groups. Is most of it legal? probably. but not like anyone will know when you launder money through dozens of front groups http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategor...
and reading his books reaffirms his hatred of nation states, and the US in particular. he is quite clear that his agenda is to eliminate the nation state as an independant entity and turn it into an administrative component of the new global "Open Society". these are his words, not mine. i leave it to you research his books.
……..and of course he is just one of many supporting the globalist agenda.
not at all surprised to see senorlechero here carrying the water for the dishonorable and disgraceful smear campaign against Micheal Yon started by Blackfive's Uncle Jimbo. give it a rest senor. it didn't work and you need to learn to quit while you are ahead.
oh.. and there is sanmon.. another blackfive smear campaign activist. I guess Uncle Jimbo gave them there marching orders. disgraceful.
tony.. sanmon is a blackfive operative. i bet uncle jimbo told him to come here and continue their smear campaign. you won't make a dent in their hard heads so let it go.
The current administration has a serious history of silencing ANYONE who might even possibly tarnish their future RE-Elected possibilities.. Check it out,, if you do not believe me.. I fiercely support Michael Yon, but what I would like to know is what can we do to "turn the tide" of this administration's atrocities {especially those involving CENSORSHIP} which is EXACTLY what Obama/McChrystal ARE DOING in stopping Michael Yon from providing us the REAL TRUTH.. People THE TIME TO ACT is NOW,,,, troops are dying at the hands of this administration's INSANE ROE… Are we to just sit idle by on our laurels and continue to allow those with NO VOICE die at the hands of faschist politicians….. Are we indeed "powerless"?? Michael Yon's LAST leg of his embed was with the same unit my son was in [in Afghanistan] and as a result, I know beyond ANY shadow of a doubt that what Yon was reporting was SPOT ON… .For all "I" would know McChrystal could be a good general [although I seriously doubt it since he aided the cover-up of Pat Tillman's death] but what I DO know is that McChrystal isn't going to even slightly risk doing ANYTHING that wont make his boss shine,, REGARDLESS of how many troops must die for their joint politican ambitions…. UGH how DO they sleep at night.. WE DESPERATELY NEED MICHAEL YON THERE keeping them honest because lord knows they wouldn't know honesty if it bit them on the rear…. PLEASE PLEASE for our troops sake, AND our Great Country's sake do NOT sit idle on this….. I emplore you to ACT and to ACT NOW….. Our sons & daughters are depending on you,,, just as we depend upon them….
No one needs to stand up for Michael Yon. He should stand up for himself. And he did, when he publicly and prominently rebuked McChrystal, the General in charge of the war in Afghanistan.
Yon knew this would be the result of his statements. Fine. Now let's all accept that Yon caused this inevitability himself.
Move along. Nothing to see here.
