Seriously? Sasha and Malia doing babysitting to earn extra cash and Barack Obama says he is not that far removed from what most Americas are going through? What is this, a Saturday Night Live Skit?
Nope—a morning interview on ABC with consumer reporter Elizabeth Leamy.
During this gem of an interview we learned that Obama is teaching his daughters fiscal responsibility (insert laugh track here) by having them do babysitting jobs (now you’re rolling on the floor, right?)
I’d love to have heard whom the girls are babysitting. Perhaps George Stephanopoulos’ kids need to stop by the White House for a little while and George flips the girls a twenty for keeping an eye on them while he and the president plan their next candid interview. Maybe George Soros has great-grandkids that need tending. I’m seeing $20 million an hour for that job. Just to help the girls with their depleted college fund. Times are tough out there, you know. Just ask the president.
My favorite question was this one:
Has your own retirement fund taken a hit? Can you feel the pain that other Americans are feeling?
Seriously? You think Obama is feeling financial pain? Obama stuttered his way through an answer that included this gem—“We’re not that far removed from what most Americans are going through,” said Dear Leader.
Hummmmm. Makes me think of the great line from Victor Davis Hanson this past week.
Obama had better get the populist photo ops down a lot better because his calls to soak the rich from the 18th hole of a coastal vacation home look increasingly ridiculous.
The only pain Obama feels right now is when his 4-foot putt for par lips out on the ninth hole at Medina.
As usual, there was little critical thinking in this interview when critical thinking is most needed. This intrusive government takeover of the banking industry was praised by interviewer, interviewee and George (whose kids are probably headed to the White House as we speak) in the studio.
Obama promised that thanks to this bill (of which Liz noted that people really don’t know what’s in it), the federal government will now be looking out for us all. Whew! Thank goodness. I want the government watching out for me and my family with a bill that they really don’t know what it does. Doesn’t that sound a little like that healthcare thing that was passed recently? Wow! I’m feeling more empowered every day! Sounds like babysitting.
Which reminds me—I’m wondering if the girls will do some puppy sitting. I’m going to be out of town next week and we’ve got a little Australian sheep herder pup that needs watching. Times are tough and we can’t afford a kennel. Could you fly that little jet that Bo rode on last week and pick up Bailey the pup? Perhaps this could help the girls with their college fund. Be careful, she’s not house trained.

The hubby likes to tune into GMA each morning as we prepare for work in order to see "what 'they' are thinking". I absolutely HATE GMA because it seems like they go out of their way to report absolutely no news whatsoever. After seeing what I missed here, with this fluffy little piece of journo-love, I realize that they are doing more nefarious things than refusing to report actual newsworthy items: they are attempting to prop up an administration which is failing the American people.
It's ironic that the only thing which might actually SAVE this disaster of an administration is the only thing which the media and the DNC refuse to provide: objective, tough criticism. (Criticism for not being Left enough does not count as being helpful.)
The girls are babysitting? Really?? I suppose next we'll hear that the bufforilla is taking in laundry and setting up a produce stand on Pennsylvania avenue.

Obama claimed he was teaching his girls about personal finance, telling them to put their money in a savings account so it can earn 3 percent. Apparently, Barry hasn't checked deposit rates for several years, as the best savings accounts earn well under 1 percent. It's hard to find even a 5-year C.D. earning 3 percent. But he's not out of touch, nosirreebob, he cares about the struggling middle class. That's why he's doubling our taxes.

I am not against human interest type pieces on our political leaders like this, problem is, the media seems to do nothing but this. It's another media idol worship type of interview. I am pretty sure I have NEVER seen a hard question to Obama asked by the MSM. Obama would have wilted into a heap if he endured the press hostility George Bush was subjected too. And talking to my liberal friends, they can see no difference in the coverage of the two presidents. Quite astonishing.

See. The funny thing about this is he's so "In Touch" with us but has taken 6 vacations in less than 2 years. Look at the upcoming vacation schedule and we find three more for this summer! A weekend in Florida, a week in Spain and 10 days in the Vineyard? I'm happy to get an entire weekend off without having to put in hours for free! I must be underestimating how much work it takes to destroy this nation. Gotta hand it to BoBo, he makes it look easy. This man is a complete jackass. EdSki your observation is solid. But in a historical sense out of all the presidents mentioned there is only one with true "Malice". Obama should have learned from all the former presidential mistakes. Instead he has shifted them into overdrive. And I think (as many do) that he is doing it on purpose. Wilson didn't have the knowledge we have at our fingertips. Obama does.
Politicians do lie, but democrats do it so much better, and they have no qualms about it. In fact, their first reaction when asked a question is to formulate a lie, even if they can tell the truth.
Oh, and don't forget how they're getting to Spain. Yeah, they so know how the rest of us are doing.
Now that's a hard-hitting interview. Immigration, economics, and terror are cliche topics. It takes real stones to talk to the President about his daughters' babysitting services.
The kids should be off-limits, but Pres and Mrs. Obama keep throwing them out there. Compare this to the Clinton years. Bill and Hillary asked the press to leave Chelsea alone, and they did, but the Clintons also kept her name out of the public discourse. I won't even get into how Jenna and Barbara Bush were treated by the press when they were still teens.

It's easy to see where Wilson's thinking came from. He grew up in a very strict religious family. I believe his father was a preacher.
The part that Wilson didn't get was its a preachers job to convince people to follow the Lord. It's not the president's job to use government to force them to follow anything.
That's what separates the progressives from the old school democrats that I was raised by. It's one thing to strike in order to gain the right to collective bargaining. It's entirely different to change the rules from a secret ballot to basically allow union thugs to corner you and demand you sign a card.
My old man was a big union guy, helped organize the village worker's union. I grew up going to their political fund raisers and rallies. He taught me the proper process for picketing so you don't get arrested.
If he was still in the union, and progressives were coming at him and his co-workers with this kind of stuff, they'd have taken them out back and have a pretty blunt conversation – if you know what I mean – and then come back and and by a round for the house out of the union's petty cash.
They understood how important the secret ballot was. They wouldn't be so quick to give it up. A mob mentality has taken over big labor.

I'm still trying to figure out how to describe the way to describe it, but I'm reminded of a line form the movie The 13th Warrior. About half way through a band of Vikings are tracking down an enemy that wants to wipe out their village. They see the tracks and one says something like 'look, they're not even trying to hide from us. They fear nothing.'

Why hide? They have the media in their back pocket, and have had them for decades now. Obama's arrogance springs from the correct expectation that the media will cover for him and his little peccadilloes; after all, the media has been covering for the Left in this country for at least two generations running, now.
There are a couple differences now, however; the cultural bent of the society leading us to be more brazen and open, and less "polite" about how we really feel and what we really do (talk about unintended consequences for the Left), and the existence of the new media, which is the real game changer here.
You can't say or do ANYTHING as a public figure without it being documented by someone and posted online; it is also impossible to delete it from the public consciousness once it is established online. The "MSM" is learning this (much to their chagrin) and declining readership/viewership.

An inspection of his tax returns that were released as part of the campaign shows that he has very little in the way of investments, eventhough he made $5 million one year from his book and continues to rake royalties. Add the fact that Michelle Obama was raking in $300 to $500,000 a year as a public relations person for a Chicago Hospital and you have a significant income, yet no significant savings. Add the fact that Khalid Al Monsour helped pay Obama's way through college, and you have to wonder, Where did all the Obama cash go. It sure isn't on the Obama US Tax Return. Did it go off shore, did they squander the cash. (that Tuscan Arugula can add up)

There's always been a bit of wink and nod between the democrats and the MSM. JFK's infidelity, hiding FDR's polio. But its always been minor stuff, that doesn't really have much to do with the major issues of the day. That started changing around Watergate (or earlier, before my time). And it's only intensified over the years.
What they like to do is avoid inconvenient things when democrats are in power while focusing on republicans when they are in charge. It was bad enough in the past, but what the MSM is allowing the current administration to get away with is criminal.
Thanks to the new alternative media, what they are allowing to slip by is becoming known.
But even more than that, I am amazed at what the administration simply expects to be left unreported. This guy will meet with one group and say there will be no change to, say, an individual's health insurance, then turn around in the next meeting and say there will be a public option, then go to another meeting and say there will be no public option, then meet with another and say yes.
And the same reporters are covering the same meeting, and not one will mention it. I've never seen it that brazen before. Obama better hope the MSM stays bought, because if they don't, it's going to get very ugly, very fast.
