The absolute disconnect between the media and reality on “Pain at the Pump” gets more profound every day.
The first rule for the media on high gas prices, do not make a connection between Barack Obama and rising prices, in fact, make it look like he is doing everything he can to help stop the suffering.
Second rule, tell the viewers/readers that there’s really nothing they can do about the high prices, just deal with it and believe in wind chimes and moonbeams to fuel our future. Instead of pointing out why gas prices have risen to 4, 5, soon to be 6 bucks a gallon, they tell us to just accept it and buy a Nissan Leaf, drive only downhill, or walk. “Thank you sir, may I have another.”
First things first: Obama. As I have pointed out before, the incessant printing of money is causing prices of everything to rise. You don’t have to be Alan Greenspan to know that when you print money at the rate of this administration prices will go up, especially on gas because the price of oil is tied directly to the dollar. Last week NBC briefly mentioned this salient fact towards the end of one of its news stories (without blaming Obama, of course) but then ran virtually the same story in its next newscast without mentioning the main reason why prices are going up. Somebody must’ve made a phone call.
Next up, and this has already begun, Big Evil Oil Companies will be releasing their profits this week. Already the media is using its stale, inaccurate template that those profits must be attacked because they are the cause for the spike in prices. The fact is, removing all of those profits would save consumers only a few pennies on every gallon, plus, you would then have to tell all those Americans whose retirement plans are full of oil company stocks that they won’t be getting dividend checks next month. Watch those stories full of half-truths, they are on their way.
But don’t worry, the President in on this. ABC’s David Kerley on “Good Morning America” assured us by saying, “President Obama is going to go after anybody who gouges.” Wow! That’s good to know. What if the President himself is actually gouging every American by printing dollars by the tanker full? Obama sounded tough during a speech in Reno when he said he was going to launch an “investigation” and the media loved every second of it, he said: “That includes the role of traders and speculators, (cheering) we’re going to make sure nobody takes advantage of American consumers!” Don’t you worry there folks, the sheriff is on this and he’s going to take down those bad guys he thinks are making money off this (unless they are actually him, or in his White House.) Compare this to the rise in gas prices in 2005 and 2008 when the media could not do a story on pain at the pump without mentioning George W. Bush and Evil CheneyBurton (You can’t say one name without the other, so let’s just cut the crap and make it one name.) Don’t doubt me about this, I was told to read those stories as a news anchor, and you heard them delivered by somebody.
Politico is covering for Dear Leader by saying he is trying to look, “proactive on an issue over which he has little control.” Well then, there you have it folks, Bush is blamed, Obama is given a pass.
Oh, and it gets better, Bianna Golodryga of ABC pointed out how the President said Republicans are to blame because “budget cuts proposed by Republicans would keep the country from making critical investments in new alternative technologies that could wean our dependence on oil, a lot of pressure on this administration.” Robin Roberts quickly agreed, “A lot of pressure on this administration.” What the? Who’s out there pressuring this administration? Certainly not you, hell—you’re probably going to start blaming Bush again. You point the finger at Republicans then talk about all the pressure on Obama? Total disconnect. Maybe they’re referring to the “pressure” Obama feels when he has to fill up his Presidential Limo or Air Force One … that charge card may bounce next time he pulls up to the pump (hey, the makings of a funny skit for “Saturday Night Live” right there. You’re welcome.)
They talk about the effect of high gas prices on Americans, not the cause. They have stopped blaming Gadafi, as they did initially, because they must’ve figured out how foolish and pathetic that sounded. Only 3% of our oil comes from Libya. Drilling for more of our own oil is ignored as a solution because the media doesn’t want that solution. They believe in the fantasy of global warming as part of their religion and this is a chance for them to pump the parasol powered Prius that will supposedly save the snail darter.
Then ABC did a fluff story on the Leaf and put it out there as a solution. It’s basically a golf cart for the highway but they praise it as brilliant (current Leaf not pictured above, but this may be a prototype.) “It takes 2 seconds at home to plug it in at night and in the morning it’s fully charged,” said a Leaf owner. That’s great, alternatives are important to look at, but does the media care to mention where that electricity comes from? Pinwheels and weather vanes, perhaps? As they did a generation ago after Three Mile Island, the activist old media has ruled out new nuclear power plants because of what has happened in Japan….so what will power that Leaf, pray tell? Giddyup!
Roberts concluded the gas price segment by saying, “Everybody’s looking for some options, aren’t they?” Nope, we’re not, we have the answers and you are ignoring them. Stop printing money and drill for more of our oil. Do that story, activist old media.
Journalist malpractice is everywhere on this issue.
“There’s just no escaping these painful gas prices, even in the air,” said Golodryga about rising airline prices. Well, there you have it, there’s nothing we can do. The same media that praises itself non-stop for protecting us from everything that’s “bad and evil,” tells us we’re on our own with this one. Yes, there is something we can do, November 6, 2012 is coming. We have options.

they The Powers That Be- and our Feckless Leader- WANT these gas prices…
John ('I served in Vietnam') Kerry said during the 2004 campaign that '$5 a gallon gas was NEEDED'. He wanted it to be in form of tax increases. Obama's Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood (another dirty Chicago pol; he lives up to his name) said 'we have to SCARE them out of their cars'.
Listen up, people.
They lie- a LOT- but if one listens closely you can hear bon mots like 'under my plans (for cap and trade) energy costs would necessarily SKYROCKET'. They are proud of who they are and there is much evidence implicating them as such.
Do not let the corrupt media fool you anymore…
Gas prices will lower in may before the "summer driving season" begins, and Obama will be credited has a hero.
Where is the GOP? Why do they always sit by quietly and allow the media and this administration to create the narrative in a vaccum of opposition?
No surprise here. The GOP sat on their hands when the media was constantly blaming high fuel prices an Bush and his oil company "cronies".
Usually when a political entity sees their policies are putting their re-election in doubt they will begin to shift, rescind or at the least slow down.
But the current Progressive "Damage is Good For You" bunch just put the pedal to the metal ….
Just like "Thelma and Louise" the road will finally run out …. I pray that we can get a hold of the steering wheel before it does.
Apparently that's more than you're capable of.
A couple of things that I notice the media are not saying right now:
1. What's going to happen to local governments when they discover that they can no longer run the school bus system at the allotment in the local budget?
2. What will the Northeast do when winter arrives? Many of us, residents and businesses (including retail and nursing homes), in the Northeast heat with oil?
MORE IS AT STAKE THAN JUST THE BUCKS WE'RE NOW PUTTING INTO OUR CARS' GAS TANKS!
It is clear to me that Obama doesn't give a damn. After all, he's living it up and will not cut back on his energy use.
Be a Progressive.
Let others think for you.

Are you even a real person,
or did you just use an auto reply program to send the same copy/paste idiotic reply to every story?
I hope Soros isnt paying you for such a lazy effort.
Youre not worth your cheetos.
You libtards could not think for yourselves if your miserable lives depended on it.
Are they sitting on the sidelines, or is the MSM ignoring them? It seems to be the latter to me. Not that it makes any difference, but somebody needs to put the lack of drilling right in the Prez' lap!!!
The LAPDOG MEDIA will do ANYTHING to further the Leftist agenda. They're too stupid to realize that THEY TOO will be affected by high gas prices!

THE ANTI LIBERAL ZONE
When we are talking about energy the left seems all hot on crappy cars like the leaf or the volt that no one wants. They never talk about truly marketable electric cars like the tesla, model s. If they really wanted to promote electric cars you'd think they would talk more about tesla. Maybe it's because they aren't union.

Compare prices and features. Tell me which you would want to buy.
Scare a liberal…tell the TRUTH, PS THE ONE is full of S**T
Between printing worthless money AND banning all drilling, across the United States, how can ANYONE not see the reasons for the rise in gas prices?? Can anyone start teaching ECONOMICS 101 in High School again? And I do NOT mean Keynesian Economics, unless it is to show that it has FAILED EVERYTIME!!!
Sad and predictable. But the voters will make the connection.

The words "fair share" are sprinkled throughout…Nevermind that drilling for our own oil and thereby lowering the price at the pump would increase those gas tax revenues….that makes too much sense.
Happy to see Ron has a job. They should've given him his own show so he could opine his extremist views. I would've watched that for sure. That Ch 13 news crew is awful. Glad Ron beat the DUI charges — it all sounded fishy to me. Sorry to bring up old history, but this is my first post.____Mr. Futrell's opinion piece is difficult to believe. Incidentally, Mr. Bush II has already taken credit for the economic meltdown during his final years in office. It was on an NBC Matt Lauer interview when Bush was promoting his "Deciding Tips" memoir. Obama was not ready to be president. McCain was totally off his rocker and should be sent back to Arizona for some R&R. Hillary was the only serious contender, but Obama was "historic" and gave us "hope." Alas, we got Barak.
Why would the media lie night-after-night giving Obama a pass as suggested by Mr. Futrell. I knew that Gaddafi's oil went to the EU. Surprised that we even got 3% of it. I will side against the environmentalists’ regarding the highly visited Alaska tundra and support oil exploration and exploitation, but it will take years to get it out of the ground. (Or is that a media lie?)
Ok… I've offered a solution. Anyone else?
And you'll know you're thinking for yourself if your political opinions are exactly the same as all the other liberals.
An empty noggin makes a loud echo.
Everyone can relax. Eric Holder and the Just-us Department (see: wanting to close Gitmo, Pigford II debacle, wanting to try KSM in NYC, Black Panther Intimidation Case) are on the scene, and they are "investigating."
we. really. are. screwed.
As a number of economist noted almost two years ago when the government printing presses really started rolling, one of the factors keeping a handle on inflation was/is the craptastic domestic economy. The fact that there's not the same demand as there was the last time oil prices shot this high, in the spring and summer of 2008, limits price increases the market can bear.
At the same time the higher oil prices linked to speculation and foreign demand and crises in turn threatens to keep the economy in its current state, because energy use for normal lifestyle activities (home heating/cooling, driving to/from work, etc.) is taking up a larger share of household incomes, leaving less money available for items that, even if they're not considered 'luxury', can be delayed for a while. The more oil remains a commodity that the U.S. has to import due to limited domestic production, the less the U.S. has control of the price of oil, even when the nation's economic recovery remains comatose.
If President Obama is really serious about getting to the bottom of skyrocketing gas prices. Has he would cut all the red tape on drilling in the gulf? No. Has he lifted unreasonable environmental standards which increase costs to the consumer? Nope. That would be a good place to start even better, the FED would be to stop devaluing the dollar. The Saudi's say there isn't a shortage of oil being pumped, it is the weak dollar that's causing high prices. Thank you big BEN at the FED.
"Truth will ultimately prevail where there is pains to bring it to light." George Washington
You got it. Obama can control this. If his EPA would back off. If we even allowed more drilling and particularly in the ANWAR, prices of gas would go down very quickly. There is no shortage of oil, and if we begin drilling more of our own, speculators would not be driving up the price.
You are an idiot. Oil is valued in the reserve currency, US dollars. Look up the value of the dollar to other currencies. Flooding the market with dollars makes the dollar worth less (soon to be worthless)
It is true that the dollar is not currently the cause of the price of oil because other currencies aren't do well either. If Obama was not holding up drilling, the price would not be this high. If we announced that we were going to drill in Anwar, speculation would be taken out of the equation, even if it did take years to get it out of the ground. We must use our own resources and let the middle east eat sand.
why are the Obmaists always so quick to reply to new posts on here….. ??
That is an excellent question.
Which then leads to another question – what will we REALLY do about 2012? WE THE PEOPLE have no party. Creating a third one right now won't work.
If the GOP isn't going to get their cashews back from the Left and actually USE them, then what is the next step.
Because voting doesn't mean anything if both parties are pretty much the same and therefore leading us in the same direction, one just faster than the other.
As sure as God made green apples, what do you think was on the ABC World News tonight – the gas prices. And what did they talk about – the oil company profits.
Even worse – Boehner did nothing to provide the actual FACTS. He talked about the oil profits and the unrest in the Middle East but nothing about the oil prices being pegged to the dollar and the printing of money.
~facepalm~
This country is doomed.
Dear Ron Futrell,
Are you dissatisfied that no one in the MSM is connecting high gas prices to Obama's performance?
I have a suggestion for you- you should try the remote control and find the "On" button for your TV.
They were discussing this EXACT thing the other day on Meet The Press. Maybe you've heard of it? Its a TV Show.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/42738326#...
I'm going to disagree that the pressure on the dollar is a major cause of the rise in oil prices. It is actually speculation that drives up the price, and there is nothing wrong with that whatsoever, but, speculators look at many factors that may determine the future price of a commodity. The falling dollar is simply one factor. One thing would bring down the price of oil and stabalize it. That is drill for our own. This is proven simply by looking at the price of natural gas. It has actually fallen of late. Why? Because it's here and it's being supplied by American gas fields. Do the same with oil, along with 3 or 4 new refineries and the US economy would boom like it was the 1920s again. This administration does not want that. They need you to be on edge, apprehensive so you stay under control. Oil is an expression of freedom because you can move around in your car, go wherever you want, when you want, untraceable (if you don't have a cell phone) and thus out of their control.
I wouldnt say they are the same…but you made good points. Especially the cashews comment (Elderado?).
These guys are so afraid of the media they literally have no spine. Add to that the McCain's and Gramnesty's of the party and were left with a limp party.
Third Party isnt an option. Voted for the Conservative Party for years, and the most we could garner was 3% of the vote. Unfortunately money drives politics, and the big two make more than most of us combined. Just look at Obama;s 1 Billion campaign goal! And the reason they want Citizens United overturned! Our best solution is to stay informed and put real people in there and start turning out these lifers.
Right on the speedy printing press as well. The value of the dollar, to which oil is attached to keeps falling due to Fed policies, and the orgy of spending without any signs of letting up.
You think its bad now folks…wait til the world dumps the dollar as the reserve currency…then we'll be truely screwed
Concur with you Lady. Almost 50% of Americans dont pay taxes. A large portion of those are on the dole one way or another. Another portion of them and us are Public Sector employees. So its not too hard to figure out how the country has slid so far to the left. Dependence welcomes tyranny. Anyone who would give up their liberties for a few scheckles dont deserve it anyway.
All that said, I still believe the country is center/right.
You left out Gun Walker
The media is the "fuel" that propels Obama. Scratch that, it's not the "media", it's Matt Lauer, Robin Roberts Bianna Golddigger, Katie Couric. The sooner we start putting ads up in public with their faces on them with LIARS stamped across the ads, the quicker Dear Leader gets abandoned. We need a serious PR camapign against the media and Big J is the perfect ones to do it. You have thousands of followers who will donate 10 bucks to see Matts or Katies face up on a billboard caling them out. And you will find some patriots who own billboards along interstates who will do it at cost.
These "news anchors" are the sole, only, singular reason we have a Marxist in the WH.
They should be our sole, only, singular focus and attack attack attack. I love Big sites and what everyone does here!! But we need an offense.
I'm in for $100.
I would generally agree with you if we had the time. But I don't feel like we have leisurely time to take each election as it comes. We're on the precipice. We need to pull the car back, turn it around and put it on the right path NOW. Not 5 years from now or 10 years from now.
That's why I'm not so sure how much this next election is going to mean if we don't start making some REAL headway getting rid of the limpies and the cashewless and the Progressives from the GOP and especially for the 2012 Presidential election. If real classical liberals don't have control of both houses and the WH in 2012, or at least both houses in 2012, then we can kiss this Republic good-bye.
And yes, I listen to Larry Elder.
He's the one that "saved" me as it were from being a moderate liberal.
OR…I simply lost track of and don't have the time to list all of his epic failures. HA!
thanks for the extra point though.
