When even the New York Times finally picks up the pungent aroma of a scandal, you’ve gotta figure that the stench is overwhelming. Recently, the Times decided this bit of news was finally fit to repeat: that the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been playing fast and loose with scientific data regarding “climate change.” That story has only been buzzing about the blogosphere for weeks now, so hats off to the “newspaper of record” for taking notice of the situation with such alacrity.
This is a milestone of sorts. The Times has – finally – chosen to publish a story about global warming that did not primarily consist of Andrew Revkin’s fawning assurances that alarmists were the guardians of holy writ and skeptics are alchemists in the employ of Exxon-Mobil. Prior to this happy event, I thought the chances of the Senate passing a cap and trade bill were slim, but that the possibility still existed. Now that the New York Times has finally acknowledged that global warming skeptics may have a point or two after all, we may administer last rites to Waxman-Markey. Good riddance.

But how did we get here? Al Gore’s hucksterism and that silly movie of his, which any legitimate scientist – even among the alarmist crowd – has to laugh at, deserve a lot of the blame. But the biggest problem was the way that the old media and policy makers embraced the collectivist agenda of the IPCC. This shameful episode has been an object lesson of what happens when we follow Obama’s doctrine of following the lead of the would-be global government crowd, rather than letting America and her allies lead the globe toward a bright future.
The catch phrase “2,500 scientists agree” (or whatever number you choose) became the mantra that supposedly proved how universal global warming consensus was, based on IPCC’s reports. But that consensus never actually existed. Of the scientists who participate in the IPCC, only a fraction are part of the committee that actually studies mankind’s effect on the climate. Of that fraction, only another fraction actually contributes to writing the portion of the IPCC’s report that deals with this issue. And, once that section of the report is completed, the IPCC prepares an Executive Summary of its findings, which is what the old media uses to prepare its stories on the IPCC’s work. The Executive Summary is largely the work of politicians and public relations professionals, and is thus further disconnected from whatever flawed science that may have been left behind, far upstream.
How bad have the IPCC’s Executive Summaries been? This post from Bishop Hill tells the story. Dr. Andrew Lacis, a colleague of NASA chief alarmist Dr. James Hansen, has no dog in this hunt in the global warming debate, but he found the IPCC’s Executive Summary woefully lacking in any scientific credulity:
There is no scientific merit to be found in the Executive Summary. The presentation sounds like something put together by Greenpeace activists and their legal department. The points being made are made arbitrarily with legal sounding caveats without having established any foundation or basis in fact. The Executive Summary seems to be a political statement that is only designed to annoy greenhouse skeptics. Wasn’t the IPCC Assessment Report intended to be a scientific document that would merit solid backing from the climate science community – instead of forcing many climate scientists into having to agree with greenhouse skeptic criticisms that this is indeed a report with a clear and obvious political agenda. Attribution can not happen until understanding has been clearly demonstrated. Once the facts of climate change have been established and understood, attribution will become self-evident to all. The Executive Summary as it stands is beyond redemption and should simply be deleted.
IPCC’s official response? Ignore the man behind the curtain:
“Rejected. [Executive Summary] summarizes Ch 9, which is based on the peer reviewed literature.”
That’s it.

Celebration is in order, now that IPCC’s fraudulent attempts to pervert science have been exposed. But, though national cap and trade may be dead, the bad news is this: there is still a whole lot of global-warming regulation that has been, or soon will be, put in place that will do substantial damage to America’s economy. The next challenge is to roll back the multi-faceted regulatory infrastructure that has quietly been developed in order to address a non-existent problem.
Several east coast states have implemented the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, a regional cap and trade program, in 2009. Midwestern and western states are planning their own regional cap and trade programs as well: the Midwestern Greenhouse Gas Reduction Accord and the Western Climate Initiative, respectively. (The latter was originally called the Western Greenhouse Gas Initiative, until somebody figured out that the acronym “WGGI” would inevitably be pronounced “wedgie,” which came a too uncomfortably close to describing the effect that the program would have on the economies of those regulated.)
In addition, more than half of the United States have implemented “Renewable Portfolio Standards” that require power providers to rely more and more on renewable sources of energy and, therefore, less and less on more affordable, reliable power generated through the combustion of fossil fuels.
Perhaps most damaging of all, environmental law currently grants radical environmental groups the “right” to hold up big new power projects, simply by filing an appeal with the Environmental Appeals Board, whether such an appeal has actual merit or not. Extremist groups like the Sierra Club have used this power to obstruct energy project after energy project that would have otherwise pumped new life into our economy.
Cap and trade may be dead, but there is much yet to be done. If you want to do your part, write your state and federal legislators and – assuming you agree with me – tell them that you don’t see any need for your state to be part of a regional cap and trade program or to adopt renewable portfolio standards. Tell them that you don’t have a problem with organizations like the Sierra Club commenting on permits, but you don’t think that these groups should have the power to tie up new power plant permits for years based on flawed science. America’s future is at stake. Let’s take it back.

This living dead scenario cannot be solved by a head shot or burning. It's hard to imagine but stupidity as diamonds are forever. If you don't believe that, there are those who think the Holocaust never happened, and some who do equate it to chickens going to market.
Can't we throw Al Gore into a volcano?
Getting rid of the entrenched system that will "tie up new power plant permits for years "…..Wishful thinking…….. You would have to clear out many of the judical appointees. abolish the EPA and instiutute tort reform if you ever want to see fast tracking of any type of energy production in this country. This will only come about is we are suddenly forced to exploit our own energy resources in order to avoid econimic collapse. As long as the foreign oil is freely flowing, forget it…..
The problem is that lefties think protecting the environment and global warming are the same thing.
If we deny human caused global warming, that is the equivalent of wanting to dump thousands of gallons of used motor oil into the public's drinking water.
I don't know any conservatives that dismiss limited polution and keeping the environment clean. But I know plenty of liberals who don't think.
How much money has Al Glore made from GW?
Put fat Al in jail! Maybe that's not the "stake" but I would certainly enjoy it
The progressive* loons who continue to bray "Global Warming" to the world and shout insults at anyone who does not instantly adopt their lunacy, they are simply showing their ignorance and shame at having been so easily duped.
*progressive: I am elite and smart, you are stupid, therefore I will be your master

Oh, for crying out loud. Andrew Lacis made this comment in 2005, yet you make it out to be today's news and imply Mr. Lacis thinks it's all a sham, which is not his position. He was merely commenting on the Exec. Summary, which we all know is written by a bunch of administrators. He believes in the science and the conclusions indicated in the meat of the report. You GW deniers are laughable.
We have an Emporor who still walks around in see through clothes, still waiting on the unvieling of newest easte of public monies, The still hv
$100,000,000 give or take a few…..
HEAR HEAR!!!
Where did they get that pic of him on vacation? I was wondering where's he has been hiding during "Global Warm-up '10" being held in DC right now.
It is expected to snow in all 50 states by the weekend. You GW advocates say there is GW when there are low snow falls and then in heavy snow falls, say that too is expected. GW like all Progressive ideas lack COMMON SENSE !!
Thanks for the article. I especially appreciate your giving some insight as to the already imposed regulations that are occuring in this country. This is something that the main stream media has never really revealed in detail, just a passing reference. I think that a major coverage of these regulations in detail would inform the public as the extent that this already has on us. It is way past time to shed some light on the workings of the players and regulations that have a very profound effect on our energy policy (i.e. electricity, fuel, heating, consumer products, etc.) and our very economic viability (both personal and economically) of life as we know it.
The time has come for transparency. The time has come for change. The people of this once great country deserve to know the truth as to what is going on. Put the facts out in detail and let us make our own decisions as to whether we think major reforms need to be made. I will bet that the majority will call for major change.
A happy day indeed. The root of this problem goes beyond Al Gore and starts with the children. We no longer teach kids to be critical thinkers. Instead, the schools indoctrinate them to the current wave of liberal propaganda. As long as we think for ourselves then the truth will not be far away.
Hot Tea tastes so much better than warm Kool-Aide.
Actually, it's you AGW fraud deniers who are laughable. The IPCC was always a scam, and it was no secret to anyone who was paying attention: it's only just now making it into the MSM. Recycled WWF pamphlets are not science- nor are Mann's silly games with bristlecone pines and statistical jiggery-pokery.
But the real pain for you ecofascists is just beginning, as thanks to dogged research despite the High Priesthood's' roadblocks it is becoming increasingly clear that NOAA and GISS have been faking the temperature data for 20 years.
The Global Warming Scam will not die easily. There is simply too much goodies for the One World Govt. Crowd to let go of. The author is right in that a stake must be driven into the heart of this. A severe backlash against Al Gore would actually be benificial in that it would put a public face on those that profited by this scam. I do not believe for a second that this will actually happen but one can dream. Most people are not fooled but most people are not in charge of anything. It is therefore most critical to replace as many elected politicians who have bought into this scam, Republicans as well as Democrats. The money trail is so broad it makes it almost impossible to track.
Hilarious visual. I see this GW thing still stumbling after us like a zombie from an old black and white movie. It's been shot, burned, stabbed. It's head is falling off. It's flesh is falling off, but it's still tottering after us. The thing just won't die. Maybe the villagers with the torches and pitchforks will get it.
I have to see humor in this, or my head might explode.
Yes of course the Global Warming is causing the Global Cooling why it is so obvious I dont know why I didnt see it myself.
Once again Rush Limbaugh has been on top of this scam since the begining.
Touche'
Ya'll can say whatever you want about Bush but at least he was smart enough to keep us out of those stupid Global Warming treaties like Kyoto which really would have destroyed our economy and our liberty.
Had Bush signed that treaty the Left would now claim the current cooling as proof of their succes and would have set themselves up as permanent custodians of the planet's climate.
Thank God for BUSH.
Wait wait I had a thought, It's snowing in all 57 states, oh my.
If Fraud was a hanging offense, these lying leftists would be a whole lot more nervous.
As it is, they play the scam as long as possible, pocket as much as possible, and then disappear as quickly as possible when things get too hot. (no pun intended)
No! You would stink up the volcano.
The last count I heard was in the year 2000 he was worth $1 million dollars, and about a week ago, read he is now worth $100 million, give or take about $10 million. Between the sweet deal on those sport cars, which he got from the Gov't. to build them in England, and his ties with GE on GW, such as the light bulb that will kill you if you break it in your house.
Images of fireworks cause global warming. So do photos of dead whales. Why are you trying to kill us, Rich?
Sorry, but other than the date, you are making that up. You do not know that believes in the science of the IPCC nor with the "meat" of the report. You simply do not know that.
Remember the Monty Python skit where the knight gets his legs and arms hacked off and he's still wanting to fight the King. "I'll bite your leg off….." he squeals as the King rides off…..
Great comeback wldbil, love the line (Emperor who walks around in see through cloths,) Have been looking for some new titles to call our Sovereign.
Mr. Obomma, Pull down those private meeting caucus room doors.
to rich313, how about 2 terms and out, starting with 2010.
I think the real question now is: How much MORE money will Al Gore make from AGW?
My thinks not much.
Projection and make-believe. The liberal's best friends.
Gibbs is an ARROGANT Empty suit, who's arrogant and SOPHMORIC ANTICS just reflect the distain and loathing this neophyte elitist White House has for the average Joe Publics, like Sarah Palin. AS intellectual as they think they are this group couldn't run a Candy store, or even a Two Car Parade, let alone our Fading Great Country!!, so they resort to High School antics , name calling and character assasination, to hide their own inadequacies!!! We need to drive STAKE right into the heart of Wash. DC its self and send 90% of these BLOOD SUCKERS packing!!!!!
He's not "my sovereign", he's my sworn enemy.
This shameful episode has been an object lesson of what happens when we follow Obama’s doctrine of following the lead of the would-be global government crowd, rather than letting America and her allies lead the globe toward a bright future.
Excellent line!
Now what did any volcano ever do to you?
The tide is finally turning, the army of Davids is beginning beginning to overtake the Obamaite minions of the Bilderberg infected MSM, or, as I like to call them, the New World Order Media Whores.
Don't be so sure, there's a lot of morons in this world.
The only media out I've ever come across that points out what the exec summary is, was Rush Limbaugh. The rest have been tossing around the line of 2,000 scientists.
Let me ask you, if you are a firm believer in this GW scam, how come you're not even more pissed off than we are? I would think their lies to you about all this would make you scream from the highest mountain (covered in snow too!) for these scientists to clean up their act.
I have degrees in electrical engineering and telecommunications, and if a story broke that everything I was told was a lie, I'd be screaming for their heads on silver platters.
Why aren't the leftists doing that? The scientists have made fools of every one who believed it, why aren't you pissed at them, demanding they clean up their acts and start acting like real scientists so we can get the truth?
You are correct, they're going to ride this dead horse all the way to hell before they give up on it.
When it does finally happen, it will be very quiet. Slowly, over time, we'll hear less and less, and then one day nothing. Then 5 – 10 more years, it will start over again with global cooling.
I read a study some reporters did on past reporting on extreme weather, and they discovered this has been going on sine the late 1800's. One generation is cold, the next is hot, then cold. It changes every 20 – 30 years.
He was a little late coming to it, but he was the first significant media voice to raise doubts.
Any time a politician says the time for talk is over, we must act right now – its a scam. Remember the $787 billion stimulus bill? How's that 8.4% unemployment working for you?
Never trust a politician who says the time to act is now. Unless its Winston Churchill.
You said it right. You could add the 9-11 troofers, moon landing doubters, bigfoot, and others to the list.
Gore would stink up the volcano.
Obama's Stimulus Creating Green Jobs Overseas
Thursday, 11 Feb 2010 10:22 PM Article Font Size
By: John Rossomando
Although Barack Obama and other Democrats touted the $787 billion stimulus package as a way to create green jobs that would put Americans back to work, new reports show the spending package has mostly created green jobs for foreign workers.
U.S. Department of Energy statistics show 79 percent of the $2.1 billion in stimulus money allocated for wind energy has been paid to foreign manufacturers.
The Spanish company Iberdrola has received $443 million; the Portuguese company EDP has received $229 million; and the British company Terra Firma, which bought a large wind farm in western Pennsylvania, received $42 million.

EdSki-Your second paragraph raises a great point and one I've not seen presented before. Riffing on that a bit, it would seem that the AGW suplicants should be outraged by the breach of trust and faith that they've placed in these crooked scientiests. Since high the high moral ground is always occupied by the zealots, these revelations would seem to undermine the ground upon which the believers stand. Instead, the believers merely increase their rage and direct their anger more intently at those who question the science. Rather amusing, actually.
Well said. And I might add that power prices would spike so high during this period, that only the power elites you mentioned above would be able to keep their lights on. The masses of people who would be made unemployed by such a scenario would have to plot their campaign by candlelight, if you can find candles.
As I surf the web and read these global warming stories I have recently stopped reading the story and just scan the comments. As is the case here, all comments could have been written by the same person. I'm not saying they were, and I am not saying these comments are not genuine, but it seems odd how often the comments following a story always cover the same elements. Kind of like a congregational response in Church.
If you look at any subject, usually comments are equally distributed to both sides of a story. So in the case of global warming, since there are so many relevant discussion topics, why would the same few comments deal only with a small non-scientific set of talking points.
The need to mention Al Gore, follow the money, socialist, scam, hoax, fraud, and nothing at all about the science of climate. I especially love the cap and trade Psalm. Cap and trade has never existed yet for 25 years it has been a prominent argument about bad science.
To say that science is a fraud is to blame human ignorance for its uninformed position. One can't be informed about the answer to a question that one never asked.
Is the world flat?
If so, then science would try and find relevant experiments to prove such a theory. To work on proving the Earth is flat is not a fraud or a scam, but simply a human coming from an uninformed position.
We are all uninformed about the long term impact of deforestation since we have just started cutting the forests 500 years ago.
I'm sure several thousand years from now scientists will look back and wonder how people could propose such a ridiculous notion that by cutting all the trees in the forest down could never impact the long term survivability of the human race, but that is exactly the level of understanding today.
The notion that man has no impact on climate is centuries old, and as we expand the use of fusion, once we get it down, we will have the power of the stars at our fingertips. I'm sure there will still be people who say man has no impact on his environment all while watching us scorch the surface into a silcone glass.
I was pretty sure it was all a bunch of crap just by the way it was being trumpeted as " the end of the world".
Then I downloaded the climategate e-mails, and spent a few hours just culling the ones that struck me as being BS.
It was amazing that as i went thru them, the patterns of chasing money, having no one dataset that everyone was using, multiple standards for "interpreting" the data, and eventually, just pure concealment and obfuscation.
And I am only half way through them.
As far as I remember, science was about having a theory, and either proving or disproving said theory by a series of tests that can be replicated by anyone that has the same beginning data.
Not starting with a pre-determined result, and adjusting theory and data to achieve said result.
Then on the other hand, I am kind of old, when I went to school 2+2 still equaled 4.
But what truely makes me saddest is the level of anger at obama and a windmill. As I recall, our nation acted upon false information and invaded Iraq. After slaughtering 10s of thousands of women and children, Exxon has moved in late last year and started getting the oil.
Our nation sends 100s of billions of dollars to third world leaders who routinely rape, torture, and kill innocent women and children. The money they receive doesn't go to their starving populations, it allows them to build palaces and have 100s of women and children as sex slaves.
And the people who comment here are really mad about Obama?
The next 911 will not come from abroad, it will be from a home-grown organization and their act will be a full order of magnitude worse than 911. Never underestimate the power of real hatred. When you lose your mother or brother while being robbed, you tend to take things to a new level of horror.
Unfortunately our children will be the ones fighting the war started by you. Yes, you started this war. Yes your children will pay the price. And you're mad Obama. What a sad joke you have all become.
Ronald Reagan would have trusted scientists and supported cap and trade.
"At first skeptical of the danger of stratospheric ozone depletion, Reagan studied the science, believed it, and was the force behind the Montreal Protocol, the worldwide treaty that put the world on a firm course to solving the problem."
Hey, wait a second. Bigfoot's tracks were see in the former Whitehouse Rose garden.
Al, is that you/
My experience with posting on here has been that there is no link, article, etc , I could provide that would change the opinion of anyone on the Breitbart sites regarding climate change. I have provided links to NASA , Scientific American , and other sites which I thought would carry some weight , and had them dismissed out out of hand . I have no problem with anyone being a skeptic , but the conservative position goes far beyond that into a whole belief system.
WHERE IS THAT A$$HAT GORE HIDING?
WE NEED THE GORON TO EXPLAIN THAT GLOBAL WARMING $HIT TO US AGAIN…….
LEFTISTS, LIBERALS, PROGRESSIVES, AND SOCIALISTS LKE THE GORON………
MUST BE STUCK ON STUPID TO BELIEVE IN MAN-MADE GLOBAL WARMING.
Wait, what… there’s only 57 states? Our prezident said there were 58! and don’t throw Algore in a volcanoe….think of the raging grease fire from the blubber….!
"What're you gonna do? Bleed on me?"
I doubt he is a virgin; so it probably wouldn't do much good, besides making us feel better.
thank goodness the picture was taken on his good side………
a can of anti stink spray will be thrown in for good measure
a volcano did ruin my vacation one time
yes, a new problem but it would be easier to deal with
making us feel better is a good thing
Is that really worthy of having Al Gore foisted on it?
That's OK. Exxon and 3 other oil companies just gave Iraq religious nutjobs 63 billion dollars for the right to re-build all the oil fields. You think they might have given some of that money to the widowed wives and orphaned children they created with their invasion into Iraq.
Or even better, decided to stop this kill-and-steal oil policy they are bribing the Congess to carry out.
"No Blood for OIl!" "Pass that joint dude!"
"let go graze at Whole Foods dude – uhh yaaa, wicked awesome"
"Or even better, decided to stop this kill-and-steal oil policy they are bribing the Congess to carry out."
(pssst: dude…shhh…where can I score the acid you're trippin' on, huh?)
Eugene, like Oregon? Weed capital of er, …that part of Nutville?
He has a good side?
Before 2006 it had been years since liberals were in charge of anything. The government idiocy of the past four years has served as a primer on the dangers of liberal government. Since Chief Liberal Pelosi took over in 2006, the national debt has doubled, as has unemployment. The corruption in Congress is at an all-time high, and the public's confidence in Congress is at an all-time low.
Ask yourself these questions:
Is the US safer since 2006?
Is employment better?
Is the national debt lower?
Has corruption been dealt with?
Do we have a better control over our borders?
Is Congress listening to the American public?
Is there any scientific evidence of worldwide global warming since 1998?
Democrats score an "F" on all questions.
Democrats do, however, deserve our appreciation for clearly showing that liberal policies have totally failed!
The reporting on how the weather is extreme or the Next Ice Age or the Coming Inferno are nothing new. The new spin is the position tha we can do something about it. Mark Twain said "Everyone complains about the weather but no one does anything about it" is now replaced with "The weather is bad there must be something we can do about it." It is the inclusion of there must be something we can do about it that is the new wrinkle. In the 1970's when the coming Ice Age was all the rage there were a few suggestions such as spreading coal dust at the poles to cause melting of the snow and ice. There was not any move to have one world govt. tackle the problem.
There was not any move to have one world govt. tackle the problem.
Look how far they've come. It's statism. The concept that the world, heck reality itself, can be remade and reordered to meet some Utopian idea. That's the issue in my opinion. Acceptance that we can not control the climate, the world, human nature.
Let me guess – you worship the goddess Gaia, don't you?
Your not thinking big enough, my friend. There is now a movement afoot to supplant the quantam physics theory of strings (also falling apart with contradictions) with a theory that supposes an infinite number of universes that create a new universe with a "Big Bang" each time they touch. Maybe you should invent a name for the goddess of the multi-verse?
Bottom line: Mankind was given the capacity to think. He should use it to the fullest extent possible; but never make any mistake that he can understandf a fraction of what is understandable.

The Earth has gone through many changes in climate during it's existence. Ice Ages have come and gone. All without man having anything to do with it. Why is the current climate change (if it's happening) caused by man THIS time? What caused it the times before?? Dinosaur flatulence??? I've read alarmist talking about the ice sheets in Greenland melting. Well, what caused them to disappear in the time of the Vikings who farmed Greenland? What caused the ice to return, driving the Vikings out? NATURAL CYCLES!!! Man is but an ant on this ball we live on but thinks he controls everything
Two humorous cartoons on Global Warming and Climategate at http://drawfortruth.wordpress.com/category/climat...
I think you have hit upon the core of the problem. I blame our schools for insufficiently teaching science. When I read what most people think when confronted with matters of science, it's obvious to me that many people regard science as a matter of belief. If that is the case, the guy with the most impressive credentials becomes the "high priest".
Basic news reporting of climate change has always been fatally flawed. Most of the national reporters covering the global warming beat were captured by their sources, as much of the East Anglia e-mails showed. It's bad science, but it's also bad media, where skepticism, a natural trait for a reporter, is traded in for subservience – all for whatever little morsels the source allows you to have. Revkin is a textbook example. He believed in the cause, put on the team jersey, yet he was still treated with contempt by those he covered. This is a day-to-day occurrence for reporters on all levels of coverage, be it the local town council or the national issues such as climate, energy and foreign policy.
Everytime I hear or read Al Gore's name, I remember the speech where he bellowed, "They played on our fears!" No one played on our fears more than Al Gore, and it made him a very, very wealthy man who, by the way, has one of the largest carbon residential home footprints in Tennessee. And, I believe, he flies whereever he goes on a private jet. So much for Global Warming/Climate Change. Just proves, most democrats are liars and will say and/or do anything to bilk the American people out of their hard earned money while they continue to get rich. Bastards!
Fear not, global warming zombies. There's always scientology. At least then you just flush your own money down the toilet, not mine.
Even if the scientists are able to convince the the public (voters) of the fact the planet is warming due to our increasing use of all fossil fuels, I doubt that it will have an impact. Our culture is so ingrained on "freedom", pursuit of happiness (translate-consuming more) and "growth (which translates into increasing population for exponent rise in sales), we would rather wait until we HAVE to act.
The tragedy of it all is when that point is reached it will be too late.
As Dr James Hansen ponts out in his recent book, "Storms of My Grandchildren", the "tipping point" propels the climate into what I call meltdown, and we are powerless to stop it.
If he is correct, that will be relatively in the near future. Investments being made now (ie coal electric power plants) and in essence a death sentence to the generation(s) of our children.

Dear guest,
You're absolutely right! Policy at the IPCC isn't written by scientists: It's written by politicians and ' activists '. The IPCC isn't a scientific organization, it is a political organization.
Yet, those of us who disagree with the IPCC are said to be going against ' scientific consensus '.
32,000 scientists have signed a paper petition stating that human CO2 emissions do not cause global warming. http://www.petitionproject.org. The trouble is, that the GW deniers are scientists, and the GW advocates are politicians and environmentalists.
Kindest Regards,
John
Is that picture in the article Al Gore on the beach?
