The irony would be amusing, were the stakes not so serious. The very day that the United States Congress passed sweeping legislation that will undermine the economy, increase debt and send tax rates soaring, a leading liberal media outlet criticized the elected officials who have been in charge of the president’s home state for repeatedly passing legislation that has: undermined Illinois’ economy, increased Illinois’ debt and sent Illinois tax rates soaring, thus poisoning the business environment and employment prospects in the state. It appears that government’s mission isn’t to tax and spend. Who knew?

It will be hard to believe, but when Illinois Democrats passed all of the legislation that got Illinois into this cesspool of a fiscal crisis, both they and the MSM assured voters that the there was nothing to worry about. These great new programs, they said, will actually make the state more prosperous and, if you disagreed with that proposition, then you were obviously a crabby conservative trying make political hay at the expense of what was obviously the best thing for the people of the state of Illinois. Sound familiar?
Having seen the light, the Chicago Tribune urged readers to clean house in Springfield in a May 21 editorial, because the current bunch of Illinois legislators have created an untenable financial crisis and refuse to fix it. No kidding. Mrs. O’Leary’s fiscally irresponsible cow not only kicked over the lantern and ran out of the barn in Illinois a long time ago, she’s now grazing contentedly along the banks of the Potomac River.

Still, it’s nice for the Trib to finally notice:
State government’s free-fall into insolvency was designed intentionally and executed methodically. Over the years, legislators devoted more to hoarding power and ensuring their re-election than to smart governance. They repeatedly created employee benefits, entitlement coverage and spending obligations that the people of Illinois cannot pay as costs come due.
That’s a keeper. Substitute “federal government” for “state government” and “the United States” for “Illinois” and you have a paragraph that the Trib can trot out again around 2020. That’s about when the Trib’s editors will figure out that the reason the United States is $100 trillion in debt and unemployment rates are competing with inflation rates to see which can soar the highest is because Congress created – starting on May 21, 2010, “employee benefits, entitlement coverage and spending obligations” that are simply unsustainable.
How to solve Illinois’ problems? The Trib hit upon a novel solution:
You can re-elect lawmakers who, for two decades, have grown state obligations at twice the rate of inflation. Or you can mobilize en masse and elect a responsive new legislature.
Gosh, thanks for the advice Tribune editorial-writers. Anyone reading your paper for the last decade would be forgiven for assuming that there’s some sort of state law that requires Illinois residents to vote Democrat. Illinois Democrats have had control of both chambers of the legislature and the Governor’s office for eight years and have spent most of their time spending tax dollars, most of which don’t yet exist, like a drunken sailor on shore leave. It would have been something of a public service for the old media to notice what was happening before now – before Illinois’ economic situation could be described in the following terms:
… (Illinois ranks) a pathetic 48th in job creation (and) now suffers an unemployment rate of 12.2 percent, the highest in 27 years. Here’s a damning metric: The January jobless rate in all 12 Illinois metro areas exceeded the previous year’s rate — for the 32nd consecutive month.
Might the Tribune have seen this crisis coming before it reached these epic proportions? It might have, had the paper been listening to conservative Illinois Republicans who predicted this was going to happen as far back as 2002. That was when then Illinois state senator Steve Rauschenberger, a strong fiscal conservative and a Republican, outlined in horrifying detail exactly how the state’s economy was going to crash and burn if Blagojevich and the Democrats went forward with their plans. And, at that point, all Blago and the Dems were doing was robbing state pension funds to pay for other government goodies.

It got worse, much worse, after they implemented the Illinois version of universal healthcare. Today, the situation is so bad that health-care providers have had to wait nine months to a year or more for Medicaid reimbursements from the state, with the predictable reductions in access to care. Thus, “improving” health care in Illinois has only made it worse.
Sounds like the model that Barack Obama, who helped create this mess as a state senator by the way, is going to emulate on a national scale, doesn’t it?
The Trib was all but blind to what was going on as the crisis was building in Illinois. They gleefully joined in the “Great Bush Bash of 2006,” which saw Democrats swept into office in overwhelming numbers. When Republican state level candidates in Illinois tried to make state finances the focus of their campaigns in 2006, the newspaper’s editorial board was much more interested in a candidate’s views on immigration reform (which isn’t in the purview of state government), abortion (ditto), and – I’m not making this up – whether foie gras should be illegal or not. The economy was going to hell in a hand basket and the Trib wanted to talk about goose liver. Now that it’s clear to everyone this side of Richie Daley that Illinois Democrats have screwed up Illinois so badly that it’s going to take a Herculean effort to fix this state, the Trib is reacting like Claude Raines in Casablanca.
They are “shocked, shocked!” to find that the lawmakers in Springfield have been so irresponsible. And, if Barack Obama’s grand plan to socialize medicine in the United States is not somehow derailed, we can expect to have much the same conversation in about ten years, on a much larger scale.

Wow, this could be the most spot-on column I've read at this site. The Trib sucks, and has sucked for my entire life (guess who got Obama elected to the Senate in the first place by revealing sealed divorce records of his opponent?). Nothing would make me happier than to see them out of business, except perhaps to have Roger Ailes purchase them and rename the paper The Chicago Fox News (oh the Liberals would lose their minds!).
I like the sound of the Chicago Fox News; nothing I like better than liberal heads exploding. It is my favorite spectator sport.
The funny thing is that the Tribune owns WXIN in Indianapolis, it's a Fox station
HA Ha
Oops, sorry. We were wrong.
The Trib E staff
How I adore the spectre of irony.
And Illinois got 59 billion in stimulus monies (the largest of any State).
i swear they weren't pressured to hold that story back a day.
My "Trib" subscription ran out a few years ago when I was not in a position to renew it. It was a "luxury" and had to be cut from the budget. I had been becoming increasingly disillusioned with the local and national coverage, but still read sports and just grumbled about the crap I didn't like. I bought it every once in awhile after that had the same reaction every time – "Why did I just waste my money?" It has been months since I last made that mistake, and I won't be fooled again. And yes, they assisted in the poisoning of the candidacy of Jack Ryan, thus giving Ocriminal a national platform. Thanks @$$holes! Can't wait to make an old mistake soon when I buy your "Final Edition".
Substitute Norwich Bulletin for Tribune and Connecticut for Illonois and you could be talking about my local politics too, funny how that works ain't it? Progressives and their ideas are so counter intuitive and such utter failures that they have to try and hide what they are, and how many of our fellow citizens are dumb enough to fall for it… oh about 52%, dumbasses that they are.
…and the Cubs still haven't won a World Series in 100 years…
" You can re-elect lawmakers who, for two decades, have grown state obligations at twice the rate of inflation. Or you can mobilize en masse and elect a responsive new legislature." – CHICAGO TRIBUNE
You'd think they were advocating for the election of Republicans, but of course that can't be the case.
I guess they're calling for conservative Democrats.
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
When our Republic does fail financially and real pain begins to affect American families in ways never experienced before, then Washington DC will be covered up in riots and "elected" officials will hide in fear of their life. They won't be able to show their faces in their home districts, their Washington DC offices will likely be ransacked and the days of the Federal government will recede and give way to State power. The tipping point is approaching. Lets hope the anger of the American people will be alleviated during the November 2010 ballot process.
They need the positive cash flow.
Of course, Progressives live on theory, not common sense and history.
I would like to think that the trib had a clue about anything, but they don't. It's clear that they want to re-invent themself. No one will buy it. Good bye and good ridance!
We don't have 10 years… check this chart created from the latest Fed Z1 report:

…by design. Why spend $$ on a winning team that's not necessary for profits? Same with the Bears. All politics.
THEY HAVE PASSED THIS HEALTH CARE BILL TO COVER THEIR ASSES IN THE STATES. CALIFORNIA, MASSACHUSETTS, ILLINOIS AND MICHIGAN ARE JUST A FEW OF THEM. This bill will cover their butts for a few more years and they(all elected officials Sate and Federal)so that their own employee benefits are covered. The public (State and Federal)unions needed this bill to survive or ALL of them would lose their retirement. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOURS.
The state-run news not only promoted it but downright advocated for it. I wonder how they acted with Bush's medication assistance he gave the seniors?
"State government’s free-fall into insolvency was designed intentionally and executed methodically. Over the years, legislators devoted more to hoarding power and ensuring their re-election than to smart governance. They repeatedly created employee benefits, entitlement coverage and spending obligations that the people of Illinois cannot pay as costs come due."
I'm sorry Rick about the cut and paste but this really must be repeated. NO! NOT BY US! By the Trib.
I mean. I don't know what I mean. I just don't EVEN know where to begin with this statement. And that it comes now of all times. Out of all the times we've said this over the last decade and felt frightful of the future of the USA nothing comes close to hearing it from Chicago itself. SCARYVISION. Where is Matt and Trey when you need them?
Oh yeah. They just lumped Ben Rothlisberger in with William Jefferson Clinton and Tiger Woods. Rick. We must be hitting the bottom. I'm longing for Bubba. Shoot me.
Jack sure married a hottie. Seven of Nine is astronomically delicious.
I live in a village of 600 in Central Illinois. We got a $2.8 m road and gutter project that the village didn't even ask for. It cost the village in the neighborhood of $20,000 to hire contractors to oversee our water lines, and clear a waterway because they were increasing the flow of water out of town. Of course, there wasn't stimulus money for that… what a crock! Project by the Illinois Department of Transportation… or in other words some political crony!
If the lefties in Chicago are playing the same game they are playing in Rhode Island, what the plan is (or should I say, has been) that they now will attack democrats as well, and urge the election of "progressive" and socialist candidates. I was on College Hill in Providence over the weekend, and over heard a clutch of lefties talking about the "plan" to denounce democrats during the upcoming elections, no doubt they dream of electing piles of greens, progressives and socialists. They sounded as though "utopia" is within their grasp.

Jeez but I wish that was true , I fear that the socialists might just get cocky and it will be us on the bus out of town with a rifle " at our backs."
They might team up with their pals in Europe and Canada and use an "international police force," to "keep the peace here in the states ."
Whatever happens it will be an interesting ten years to come.
Ha ha. Conservative democrats. That's a good one. That's right up there with Pro-Life democrats. Hahahaha
It makes me happy to see you laughing! We are gonna win this!
Old habits die hard! My husband still reads his liberal rag and grunts and groans through it, trying to ferret out the news. I do occasionally find him getting online to find his news these days…I am sure he is addicted to the tactic process of reading a newspaper! And he prides himself in decoding the truth…takes him back to his Dick Tracy days!
As an Illinois resident, unfortunately you are quite right. You do not even know the half of it.
IL is one of 2 states to unionize home healthcare providers (Michigan the other).
Worse yet: Dem Gov. Quinn made an executive order last summer to unionize parents who receive state help for caring for the disabled.
Like many states, Illinois saves money by sending a small stipend (about $2K/ month) to a parent of an adult child with autism or Down's Syndrome for care of the disabled in their own home. Actually much cheaper than a state institution. Makes sense.
BUT, Quinn is unionizing those parents. It will be a "union shop", meaning the parents are unionized whether they want it or not. The SEIU pressured for it.
But how can you unionize such parents? Do they "strike" by denying care to their own children?
The SEIU theory is Illinois is their 'employer'. SEIU gets union dues & reduces parents' net stipend since they have to pay SEIU union dues from their stipend money. Bankrupt Illinois is not increasing that pot of money, so less will go to the disabled because SEIU gets a cut now.
One parent said "What am I going to do, go on strike and not wipe my son's bottom?" How can the Democrats unionize parents to go on "strike" against their own children? Only in Obama's Illinois.
I believe we will rise from this mess and come back from the precipice that we have been forced to stand on….staring…with the threat that we will be pushed down into it. Only for the bastards to find that they will be sucker punched by the SCOTUS……don't doubt me! Its going to be a battle like we have never seen in the political process…but damn, we are Americans! A people of exceptionalism…..I expect nothing less from the Patriots out there who are working on defeating this!
First Illinois, then the United States, Next the WORLD!
Paid for by Obama for Supreme Ruler of the Earth!

And the dumb-ass decided she wasn't enough. What disease do the so-called "fortunate" suffer from when they find seemingly rational, beautiful and intelligent spouses? He would have probably bombed-out due to scandal, but at least BHO would have finally lost in a fair fight…
Wow! The redistributionist thieves "gave" a huge payout of my money/future debt on my descendants and I should be grateful? Yours is the sick ass mind-set that is responsible for this G-Damned mess! Stick the needle in and go back to your fantasy world loser!
A "Nautilus" clock? Please change back my dear! David needs his reps/props…
Leave T to his traditions, just cajole him a bit to the present. The "tactile process" of reading is beautiful, but sadly about to see it's last days as the preferred form of media. I weep with him… Bookshelf makers everywhere are mourning with us as well…
My sentiments exactly! ;^)
I agree! I do not bemoan his method of gathering news! It works for him…the genius he is to decode the crap, amazing to me. I too love the tactile sense of a book…newspaper…I can give up. But I grieve for him and you…
Lorben, you look different today.
Time running out while things spiral out of control?
At times…but I believe we will win this. I cannot say I haven't felt unsettled by all of this….I am putting off talking with my father until I feel stronger. He is such a sucker for entitlements….his medicare and medicaid. It is weird how this is affecting family relationships….
I wish the marxist/socialists would create some Utopia somewhere first and THEN come and tell us how they did it instead of lying to get elected just so they can experiment.
Yup. People go to Wrigley – to go to Wrigley. The ballgame gets to be incidental.
So This is How Liberty Dies…With Thunderous Applause: http://mittromneycentral.com/2010/03/21/this-is-h...
The post I just linked to is the best post I have read in months. I know it's easy to get down after last night, but this post really picked me up and I hope it picks you up as well.
Des, I don't know how old you are, but the Trib wasn't bad in the 1970s and early '80s.
Actually, the Trib began and lasted a rather long time as a right of center paper. By the late '80s, though, it had wandered into the knee deep shoals of leftyism and by the mid '90s, well, the Trib was fully immersed in far laftyism.
Sounds about right 1red, I haven't read that pos in decades – one bit of happy news, the court refused blago's motion to postpone his trial
Wish that birdy would sing loud and clear! Now if we can get rid of Quinn, another big pos, we'd have a chance. I'm going to work to get melissa bean out of office, big fat ass pos turd, I don't know who votes for these mopes! ok, thanks for indulging me in my rant – I'd had far too many today!
GF………….she divorced him and it wasn't due to adultery; you seem to not know the story.
It's such a joke to see anyone get excited about the cubs, like anyone there cares if they win or lose? They still bring in the bucks so no biggie – except now they do have new ownership, so maybe a mircle is in the works –
I'm a Sox fan and was so happy when we finally won – wrigley field = world's largest gay bar – sorry, I didn't make it up so don't shoot the messenger
Ummmmmmmmmmmmm………….GF, my friend, bookshelf makers have nothing to do with newsp;aper readers or lack of them.
I hope that there are still many who are still reading books, though.
It's what I know oif the Trib's history and my own observations; OCG and I'm glad you agree with me.
Oh rant away………………I've been doing a bit of the same today. ;^)
You get out there in that big old bad world and WORK your arse off to unseat Quinn !
Blago isn't singing because he's still assuming that by keeping quiet, he'll be "saved". That ain't about to happen and what with the corrupt judges in Il, as well as the now corrupted DOJ, "singing" won't get him anywhere either. It's a lose lose situation for poor Blago.
C'mon Red!
You are just trying to antagonize my @$$! Books, magazines and papers are all paper media that I love. If too many people buy into this "kindle" B.S. and others like it, all a "bookshelf" will be good for is crap trinkets from a vacation to Florida or some other such destination.
Stop breakin' my balls! okay?
As for Ryan? Nah, I don't really care. Old news, forgot the details. Just remember he wanted to do threesomes or some other crazy crap at a "sex" club. Was there some problem with Jeri? Damned fool if you ask me…
GF
True! The libtards detest Federalism. Anytime they can reduce its influence while increasing their control programs, then they've had a great day.
Wait until election day. They won't endorse a single Republican and all their endorsements will be the same people with the same empty promises of entitlement programs that have bankrupted the state.
OCG is only partially right. Wrigley IS the worlds largest Gay bar (not that there's anything wrong with that!(Jerry). It is also the world's largest Biergarten and also the top "pick-up" spot for the deluded straight crowd. Very peaceful if you don't mind a crap product and human debris all around you. The grass is pretty…
Yeah, you know me, I'm just out to bust yer chops every now and again. LOL
No, in all seriousness, I LOVE books; LOVE 'em I tell ya ! What can I say? I'm a bookaholic; always have been one and have been lucky enough to be able to induldge myself in buying them. I, my progeny, and a whole lot of my friends could keep bookcase makers busy for a very long time.
Hell, GF, when I write letters, and I do, I use a fountain pen………so all isn't lost ! ;^)
Not only will I NEVER use or buy a stupid KINDLE, just last week, I talked one of my dear bookaholic pals out of getting one.
There evidently WAS/is a problem with Jeri and that story about some "club" was something entirely made up by her or her lawyer or greatly embelished to the point of the truth being a tiny speck. She threw the kitchen sink at him, so that she could get sole custody of the kid and take him rto live with her, in California. yep, that worked out well for her………………NOT. She got the sole custody, ruined Ryan's political life, and her "career" went PHFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT.
I'm a Texan, so I'm used to inferior major league ball, but I've been to Wrigley several times and thankfully I never noticed that "issue". It's been a few years but, hmmmm. Ok then.
The "Trib" made it seem like she wanted the divorce records to stay sealed, so I can only go from memory.
She was (is?) a hottie…
But, hey, at least the kid will have "healthcare" now…
Dang, what I would give to hear him sing like a little canary!
Oh you better believe it, I will work my tail off to get the pos quinn out of here – you want to talk about off the charts with insanity?! The man is delusional –
and right up there on my list is bean, what a nightmare – she was one of the undecided up until Sunday, probably all about her ego and a wish to get some attention, as nobody give a care what she has to say…arrgg
Everyone involved wanted those divorce papers sealed and they should have remained so!
Obama pulled all kinds of strings and who knows what all else to get them unsealed, so that he could use them against Ryan, whom Barry would NOT have beaten.
You, me, and millions of others would have LOVED it had Blago sung his heart out. Oh well, not gonna happen now and after the smear job, nobody much would believe him now anyway; that pool was poisoned long ago.
Yep, Quinn is right up there on my SHITLIST too. ;^)
lol, you suprised me with the 'shitlist' part! I know I need to answer your mail, I've been too pissed today to write anything 'nice' – sorry ~
Yeah, I remember. I was furious at the time (and a little now, thank you!) because there is supposed to something known as a right to privacy. Jack would have beat Barry by numbers similar to the expressed preference on the "health care reform" bill recently shoved up our asses. The fight goes on, one battle lost, a war to win…
GOOD…………….I'm glad I joggled your memory !
NEVER STOP BEING ANGRY AND NEVER FORGET; DOWN TO THE SMALLEST DETAIL !
What was done to Ryan and yes, to Jeri and the kid as well, by Obama, was not only disgusting, but ILLEGAL!
Yep, one battle sort of lost, the entire war to win and I do think that you want me in your foxhole. ;^)
Do you remember the Hank Williams Jr. song "A Country Boy Can Survive"? It's not just about country boys, it's about the self sufficient, rugged, American spirit that tamed the west and won WWII. After the progressives have destroyed our economy and all of the money has been handed out as freebies to those who don't posses the will to take care of themselves, then we will load up our rifles, gather our families, and start the work of rebuilding a free America once again. Those leaders who took part in the destruction will be exiled to China or Venezuela where they can live as slaves under the same sort of state they so longed for and tried to create here. God Bless America
Ha ha. Conservative democrats. That's a good one. That's right up there with Pro-Life democrats. Hahahaha
F_ _ _ them
(excuse my American)
They are getting exactly what they deserve. maybe they can have a fire sale?
"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years."
"Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage."
– Authors unknown but frequently attributed to Alexis De Toqueville
History teaches us these lessons. Similar trajectories preceded the fall of the Roman Empire, Greek Civilization, and the various European empires.
This is what we get for allowing our educational system to drift, gradually but eventually completely apart from proven traditions of instruction in history, economics, politics, mathematics, and other basics, into feel-good socioscatology.
As long as we have an overwhelmingly ignorant population, we'll keep drifting. It's time to push back hard against those alleged citizens who have no real stake in our country's future other than its (temporary) ability to subsidize their lives.
Ditto. Nice that they're finally catchin' on, but they lack the resolve to become anything other than a lefty rag. Nothin' but barkin' spiders there

Not to worry, I know how you feel. Write when you fell like it, or to take your mind of things.
TEXAS? Only Steers and Queers come from Texas!… You expect me to believe that you never noticed that "issue"? What kind of parfume you wear anyway boy! (is it a good repellent?)
"Cub" nation is seriously dysfunctional. Please don't judge the rest of us by that standard.
"inferior major league baseball"? And you claim to have been to Wrigley? OVER 100 years since the "lovable" losers have brought one home… I won't drink that kool-aid… Be happy with what you have (for now).
I'm sadly in the local dating scene right now. EVERY Cub's fan bimbo that calls "Wrigleyville" home gets dumped after being used (and wonders why!). LibVille is what it really amounts too, no thinkers there I tell ya…
Go Bears! (that's painful too…)
This would be laughable if it weren't so sad.
I think the media is partly responsible for the mess the country is in and it's too little to late. They are more than happy to promote liberal agendas and chastize conservatives ideals. I wonder if the MSM will ever wake up nationally. Maybe after it is too late and there is no money left and no one to bail out the Feds. Liberal states have gotten away with this garbage because the feds bail them out, but the world won't bail us out.
Obama and almost ALL Democrat members of Congress are trying to overthrow the Constitution of the U.S. and THAT IS THE DEFINITION OF TREASON! We need to THROW THESE ENEMIES OF AMERICA OUT OF OFFICE, and, we need to PROSECUTE THEM FOR TREASON afterward.
It is time to quit being nice, knock off the bi-partisan crapola McCain and other RINO's are so fond of, IT DOESN'T WORK! We need to elect some tough, Conservative Americans who are willing to go in with an axe and chop out all the dead wood, repeal ALL the welfare state laws that have been passed in the last 20-30 years, bring the traitors to justice, and do it legally or illegally, just as the Democrats have done passing ObamaCare.

The problem we face is a whole generation on the left is completely irresponsible. Democratic voters, politicians and Media. The established media come out of the same schools as the dem politicians and have the same disillusions.
Unions mean Union fees and thus political contributions. Dems only support programs that support themselves.
great piece – and California is in even worse shape. Why? Look who's been running this state for 30 years. Dems in both houses. Period. End their reign or we will surely fall into the sea as many in this country would like happen.
Obama lies …freedom dies
The MSM or what passes for it these days can't get out of bed with the folks they have been touting for so long can they? They would be just like whores if they did that!
This might be a compelling piece if it wasn't filled with nonsense.
The writer says the Chicago Tribune might have seen the budget crisis coming if it had been listening to Illinois Republicans "as far back as 2002." Apparently the writer wasn't listening to the Tribune then.
Here is what the Tribune editorial page said on Jan. 11, 2002: "This state is running a dangerous deficit. The blame primarily goes not to Sept. 11 or even the economy, but to pols in Springfield who for years have foolishly given away the store. In annual, bipartisan orgies of spending, they approved grossly irresponsible budgets….
"The epilogue: This state's finances are in dangerous straits."
I run the Tribune editorial page. I note that the writer's bio includes the Tribune in his writing credits. Glad to have him – but if he read us more carefully he wouldn't misrepresent what we have written about government spending.
It's shocking how right you are. This may suprise you I am a 65 year old senior citizen. A Black lifelong Independent Voter, who cancelled the Trib except for the Sunday paper because of the released divorce records( I just could not give up knowing about sales).
Great story. I'll pass it on. You need to do this same story but about California. We're in the same situation – $25 billion in debt due to overpaid state employees and their pensions.

I'm gonna hang with you 1red! lol
Good, "for surely we must all hang together, or we shall all hang alone", or words to that effect, as Franklin said.
War ain't over yet. Going to a tax day party to make some connections.
You are welcome in the foxhole, you would miss me if I weren't there with you either.
I switched my "personal description" to the Franklin quote on Saturday. Roll over my little puppy picture and you will have it. Always loved that one…
It's gratifying to see someone with some responsibility at the Trib commenting on this issue.
I used to be a subscriber to the Tribune. If in discussing the Democrat machine's responsibility for the sorry fiscal situation in Illinois the paper had invested half as much copy and a fraction of the energy it's devoted to praising Obama's charisma and political talents, Michelle's stylishness, and their kids cuteness, I might still be one.
Nope, the war ain't over……………..by a long shot !
We appear to have more in common than not……….just look at our uncoordinated/simultanious use of the Franklin phrase. LOL
I think that we do well together in that foxhole…………………………as long as one of us didn't try to pull rank. ;^)
Red,
I don't know what the hell EVER gave you the idea that we are at odds with each other. I want a free republic with a limited government and 50 sovereign states who's citizens are free to pursue social and legal policies consistent with individual Constitutional rights. I want a Federal government that is focused on national security and objective enforcement of criminal and civil laws (the ones that fall within their purview). I want ALL people to live with a secure sense of freedom of conscience, without any "group" imposing on or interfering with the rights of others. Free exercise may be restricted or regulated on the public square to protect minor children according to local community standards (less draconian than it sounds). Strong privacy rights to protect us from government and private sector exploitation alike. Second amendment rights so self defense is capable in the unexpected moments of life. I could go on and on, but I think you get the flavor…
Pull rank? There is no rank among equals, only mutual support. I can recognize when I'm wrong if you persuade me and I think you are the same. Where we disagree? Probably only minor stuff here and there.
And, for the record (not that it is any of your business, nor should it matter), I am NOT an Atheist! Only an idiot can observe all of the natural wonder around us and conclude it is merely random chance… Mathematically impossible as well…
If your still awake and reading… Peace, my friend
GF
LOL…………………..of course I'm still awake ! ;^)
Feeling better after that wee rant? I hope so!
Oh come on, my friend, the only one throwing around the "atheist" thing, at you, has been you, so cut it out.
Yes, we are equals, agree on a surprising number of things ( and probably even more, which we shall find out, the more we post to one another/on these sites ), and I threw in the "pull rank" thing, because you had earlier accused me of giving you a hard time.
I imagine that the few things we probably disagree on, are mostly minor; though I can think of one that that I believe is major. But lets not go there, because it hasn't anything at all to do with the topic at hand, nor is even it "important" at the moment.

I lived in Chicago for over two decades and met most of the players in both parties at one time of another. I got to know some of them fairly well. I did some contract work for the state when the Republicans ran it and even had a couple of players, Republican and Demorat alike, as clients. Rauschenberger is by far the most impressive of those I met in either party. He was the only one who really cared about sound policy ideas as opposed to self aggrandizement and graft. I don't know much about Brady, but I was sure hoping the winner of the Republican primary wasn't Dillard, McKenna or Ryan.
Well said.
Objectivity does not seem to be a priority in the education system. My experience in 'higher education' left me with disgust at the general education requirements. Students were generally not taught to exercise judgment, but rather to approach everything with an open mind. Translation: open your mind to all of my biases and opinions–no need to think for yourself.
Time to get back to teaching students how to reason and exercise good judgment, instead of teaching them what to think on a wide array of social topics.
Hmm…
I ain't surprised on how much we agree, I have read a ton of your posts. I s'pose I need to expand my writing style a bit. The sarcasm and har-har doesn't translate too well I guess. I was laughing when I wrote about "antagonize… (and) breakin' my balls!". Not a 'wee" rant, merely a desire to clarify and establish our commons…
That one "thing" is more likely microscopic, just a matter of different interpretation.
Damn, I wish we could sit down and have a beer! (I would bring a gun, just in case. You understand…).
Bottoms up!
I'm a VERY literal/black&white kinda guy, so subtleties, especially those embedded in on line relies, fly right by me. It might help, if you want to make things clear for me, to use the long standing net "/s", at the end of a sarcastic post, or at least a smiley.
In person, we could poke each other in the ribs, wink, whatever, and the point would be easily made.
Yeah, GF, we'd have a great time shootin' the breeze in person ( and you won't need that gun, but ya might need smelling salts ! ), but I'll take a pass on the beer………….not my kinda libation. ;^)
Black & white? Watch it there partner, you might be labeled a (gasp!) RACIST! I'm literal too, so I know what you mean. Sorry though, the "/s" and
feel a little less than hetero to me, if you know what I mean..
Right, Jamison's… consider it passed…
LOL…………………………………
Okay, I agree, the smilies are a bit fay, but the /s sign is an old, well used by all posters on right of center sites and has been for going 15 years now, for the very reasons it's needed.
Can ya make that a Courvoisier VSOP ?
[...] From the Chicago Trib in As America Trots Down The Same Doomed Path, Chicago Tribune Notices Illinois Is Broke: [...]
Wonder how many positions couldn't be filled or got filled with underperformers because highly qualified people said, "Are you kidding, I wouldn' t move to (…Illinois, California, NY, Detriot, insert your Liberal utopia here), they're friggen idiots out there!" America needs to get back to accountability. New laws should come with some sort of transition plan and metrics, with sunset clauses when unexpected consequences make them untenable. I don't fret over the Blue states' economic problems, I just don't like the Federal government stealing from responsible states and their citizens to subsidize nitwits elsewhere that refuse to understand "ACCOUNTABILITY".
I searched for something completely different, but found your website! And have to say thanks. Nice read. Will come back.
For most families, daycare expenses form a huge chunk of their monthly budget, and it has become extremely difficult for them to see a way through it.
