Hey Mainstream Media, before you dismiss legitimate scientists who disagree with your global warming meme as “deniers,” how about listening to an actual, open-minded scientist who agrees with you?
One of the most electrifying moments of the Heartland Institute’s Fourth International Climate Change Conference was when Professor Scott Denning of Colorado State University asked to speak to the crowd during the close of the conference. Listen to what Dr. Denning, a climatologist who doesn’t agree with skeptics, who believes that AGW is a problem, has to say and listen to the reaction from crowd of about 700 “skeptics.”
Heartland invites all the leading climate scientists to its conferences. Very few believers in AGW accept that invitation. Denning deserves our respect and admiration for not only showing up, not only listening to other views, but for calling out his colleagues:
It’s really too bad that more of my colleagues from the scientific community didn’t attend this.
And for acknowledging a basic truth:
We have much more in common than our differences.
You’ll note that Denning isn’t backing down on his position or about his research. But neither is he accusing the distinguished, accomplished, independent scientists who have another take of being shills for energy companies, or accusing them of doing shoddy work. You’ll also note that the crowd, including yours truly, gave Denning about as warm a reception as he could have ask for, both when he was complementing us and after he had criticized us.

At one time, this is just the sort of remarkable moment that the old media would have jumped on. Today? Not so much. But that’s why we’re here.

The Lame Street Media will never give so called AFW "deniers" any credible coverage because it goes against the progressive agenda. And they have shown time and time again that the LSM is nothing but an arm (or tentacle) of the extreme left.
[...] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Vince Humphreys, greychampion, Angel Fleming, ChasEnStorms, TheDean&HeadMaster and others. TheDean&HeadMaster said: On ‘Global Warming,’ Can There Really Be Two Sides To the Story? http://bit.ly/dnJ7AD [...]
Are there two sides to the story? Yes the truth and then Al Gore.
There are two sides of the story, according to the AGW crowd: That which the scientists say, and that which they believe themselves, based upon what they want to hear.
Based on two of the above comments – I see there are those who won't keep an open mind on this side either. Global Warming believers and Global Warming doubters – both pig headed.
There is no two sides.Global warming is a fiction and yes the climate does change.
Which one are you?
So it is only getting colder (and there is only global cooling)?
I'm keeping my mind open. Is your mind closed?
Progressives have closed minds. They don't know how to see both sides. They get nervous when their sacred cows are called into question. Therefore they ignore any situation that might challenge their beliefs. This has been proven time and time again.
So is there global warming, or is it easier to justify their 'science' by "climate change."
I mean, what idiot would argue with "climate change?"
Now that we agree on climate change, they continue the bad science of global warming.
They demand tolerance and openmindedness in those they oppose.
Kinda hypocritical, if they were religious about it. Come to think of it, they are, aren't they?
I thought Al Gore was just a big backside? Oh, I get it, that's what you meant.
Seems to me your looking in a mirror. I don't see any open minds here either.
Oh really? I'd love an example of that. Please point out your idea of the closed-mindedness you see here and we can discuss it.
It is exactly like a religion. What is more, progressives demand even more than tolerance and openmindedness from those they oppose; the demand acquiescence. If you don't agree with the progressive perspective, you are not allowed to debate it. You are simply swept under the rug as a "racist", "Ignorant", "redneck" "denier" "flat earther" or whatever caricature helps them dismiss those WHO DO NOT AGREE (reverb)…
Too late, Jim's brain just fell out of his open mind.
Uh, considering that it is possible that AGW is a flawed argument IS being open-minded or don't you really see that?
Too funny.
"Climate Change" is a complete joke. Of course the climate changes. AGW should just be called "_____(fill in the blank)________" the name of it changes so much.
We've had: Global Cooling, Ozone Layer, Climate Change, Global Warming, Man-made Global Warming, Climate Change and now it's moving back to Global Cooling.
All this since the 1970s. Funny but everyone agrees on one thing–man's impact is marginal. And that is a fact.
Is there data to confirm the assertion of global warming? Original raw data would be nice – I hear somehow that that is missing. So, start over collecting more raw data. Some emails suggest tampering with data. Seems to be a doubt about the whole thing. Certainly nothing to make policy over or raise my taxes for. I heard Al Gore speaking and he was definitely full of ominous warnings – assertions of ice caps melting and animals dying, etc. etc. That's a bit much for a commencement address, I think.
In response to the speaker's statements; how can we discuss the political policies regarding climate from our point of view when our point of view (that man has little to nothing to do with it) leads to a conclusion that nothing should be done, for doing anything at all would be a waste of time/money/liberty? I mean, we HAVE explained that doing something would be a waste of time/money/liberty and STILL we get, "well, what's your solution, then?" Didn't we just say what our solution is? Nothing. There's no solution to a non-problem.
GW is a ruse…it is the Enron of this century created by Al Gore….and all of the rest of the leftists in power right now. It is designed to ensnare the freedom loving people of this nation through Cap and Trade. There are billions of dollars tied up in this evil scheme and it is about to fall apart on them. They have invested their money into the likes of Shore Bank…that needs shoring up as we speak…their green bank has turned brown. Gore will loose his ass if Cap and Trade is not slammed down the throats of this country….and I strongly suspect the time for Cap and Trade to become a reality has passed them by….soon there will be a new Congress who will investigate this stuff and even O will be found guilty in this ruse…..

Remember when Miss Maples Rules of Manners recomended talking about non controversial subjects like the weather?
I was privileged to see Dr. Denning give his few moments at the ICCC. He was invited and accepted (along with one other Warmist and both brought some different info to the table. It shows they are scientists, not second handers grabbing on to all the research grant money they can get.
Science is all about the discussion of possible answers – of which, many answers are not provable. Since this entire subject was first foisted upon the public, all we have ever wanted is an honest debate. It appears that Al Gore and his Hollywood buddies are incapable of debate. The liberal progressives in this country are merely looking for another method of taxing the population by creating a false crisis. I have noticed that the liberals will immediately resort to name calling (deniers, flat earthers) and other ad hominem attacks when you disagree. Isn't it interesting that a polite discourse can be held as shown with the Heritage sponsored conference, and in Iceland the Global Warming camp had to resort to throwing tomatoes at the heritics who disagreed.
I wish Trzupek's article would give some information about the conference beyond the above. How about some links to the data supporting this position and we should also have links to the global warming position. Let us sift through the data. I don't want just political grandstanding.
And as for my brain falling out – I had a meeting to attend. But as I said just looking over the comments – I don't see anything resembling an open mind. Everything is "case closed no need to discuss."
No science is ever settled. There is always more to learn and better methods to discover. Even the laws serve as only a basis to begin further study and achievment! That being said i'm glad this guy was able to come and discuss both sides of the story. He presents his data and listens to other peoples data and intreptation. Kudos. The Al Gores of the world are like the Catholic Church of olden times. THE WORLD IS FLAT ! Science is Heresy! (sp?)
Just make sure your brain doesn't fall out. That would make a mess.
This whole thing began as Global Warming. Then, during the last 10 years when temperatures dropped, the "experts" changed the nomenclature from Global Warming to Global Climate Change to capture any and all of their theories and to explain away any and all deviations from the "norm." If it doesn't snow or rain, it's man-made Global Climate Change. If it snows or rains too much, if the winters are harsher and the summers cooler, it's man-made Global Climate Change. If there is an active hurricane season or an increase in tornadoes, it's man-made Global Climate Change. If there is a quiet hurricane season or fewer tornadoes, it's man-made Global Climate Change. The man-made Global Climate Change scientists have been caught lying and skewing data to support their hypotheses. They inconviently "lost" their source data. Is it any wonder that there is growing and overwhelming opposition to the theory that the earth is warming and, if it is, that humans are the cause?
Also interesting to note that the MSM (Pravda?) didn't bother to report on this event. Objective reporting went out the window back in the 60's and has only worsened as time has passed. If the MSM was as objective as they pretend to be, they should have been there in droves. Are you listening CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC
Heartland Institute? Aren't they funded by corporations tied to fossil fuel production and use? Not a reliable source for science at all.
I went out to heartland Institute's website and found videos of the conference proceedings. I spent a few minutes viewing one presentation by Dr. Spencer. He has some interesting data and thoughts. It is also interesting to note that at one point – he is talking about urban heat island data – that this is a "work in progress" (to use his own terms) and he for one set of data he can't explain why the data results are different than similar data for set of data (U.S. vs other portions of the world) – interesting. So he obviously has an open to what the data is presenting him (I'M NOT SAYING THAT HE IS GOING BELIEVE IN GW BUT HE HAS AN OPEN MIND ON THE DATA AND THAT THERE IS MORE TO BE LEARNED). Now if the commenters were likewise open to review the data.
Just by showing up and being a participant, Denning will most likely lose out in the eyes of his peers and will henceforth be shunned by the pro AGW crowd.
"Funding for Heartland's programs comes from approximately 1,600 individuals, foundations, and corporations. In 2007, the organization raised and spent approximately $5.2 million. Sixteen percent of the organization's income came from corporations and 84 percent from individuals and foundations. Heartland does not accept government funds and does not conduct "contract" research for special-interest groups."
—from their website.
So, Mr. Schaeffer, you are both misinformed AND too intellectually lazy to find out the facts. And oh BTW: why do you think that PUBLICLY funded scientests are per se more reliable than those privately financed? Data is data, after all; it's either accurate, or it's not. Is this a case where you are a non-scientist, and therefore can't follow the arguments? Not to mention that public science funding amounts to thousands of times that of private, AND that it is very well established that the lefties and greenies handing out the public money will stiff those whose grant proposals don't adhere to orthodoxy.
He still eats small children and is from the dark side. He still assumes that there is a global warming problem that we need to work together on. But, there is no problem! It is made up from manipulation of data.
Like….. 75% of the temperature data was no longer included in the global average temps after 1990 — all the cold ones were removed. This is next year after Maurice Strong said this is what they'd do precipitate a global economic crises. Viola – global warming. Global fraud.
Nice piece of information and you got very impressive writing skills. In the James Bond books by Ian Fleming,Replica omega has released two James Bond watches before and the one shown above, the new Omega Seamaster James Bond Limited Edition is one of the first James Bond watches to be equipped with the co-axial escapement.
Ok, the guy has a semi-open mind. He is willing to listen.
But, he is looking for solutions. Me, i'm looking for a problem.
No problem, why do we need a solution?
