When it comes to the way the MSM covers the news, sometimes it’s the little things that are the most annoying. The AP covered Interior Secretary Ken Salazar’s decision to re-impose a six month deep water drilling moratorium in predictable fashion, using most of the piece to emphasize the administration’s fear-mongering tactics as justification for a decision that will damage the economy of the Gulf states more than the oil spill. U.S. District Court Judge Milton Feldman’s reasons for overturning the ban aren’t addressed until the last two paragraphs of the piece, and even then not before the reader has been coached to dismiss Feldman’s opinion after reading this snarky observation:
U.S. District Judge Martin Feldman, who was appointed by President Ronald Reagan and has owned stock in a number of petroleum-related companies, sided with the plaintiffs.

Has owned stock in petroleum-related companies? Really? In a financial world full of 401Ks, IRAs and money market funds, how many people haven’t owned stock in “petroleum-related” companies? More to the point, what does the person who appointed him or what investments he made have to do with Feldman’s opinion, or with the many good arguments that suggest the moratorium is a very bad idea?
The AP does a great job of recounting the death toll from the initial explosion and the magnitude of the subsequent spill. I’m not quite sure why, since I doubt if there’s anyone left on the planet who doesn’t have a pretty good idea about how bad things are in the gulf, but if they want to repeat those stats, fine. How about some other statistics though? There are statistics one rarely sees in MSM coverage of the spill on the deep water drilling moratorium, statistics the administration doesn’t like to talk about:
- About 30 percent of the nation’s total domestic oil production and 13 percent of domestic natural gas production comes from the Gulf of Mexico
- Approximately 80 percent of the oil and 45 percent of the natural gas in the Gulf come from deep water exploration.
- According to the American Petroleum Institute (API), a moratorium on deep water drilling would result in the loss of up to 130,000 barrels of oil per day by 2011 and as much as 500,000 barrels per day between 2013 and 2017, making the United States more dependent on oil from other countries.
- API’s calculations also show the moratorium could put 46,200 jobs at risk in the short-term and as many as 120,000 jobs over the long-term.

And then there’s the most important point of all: no matter what Salazar or Obama says or does, deep water drilling will continue, in the gulf and around the world. It’s merely a question of whether we reap the benefits, or whether we’ll leave it to Russia, China, Brazil and other nations to collect those riches by themselves.

The people at the AP don’t use any petroleum products, their conscience is clean.
This is a positive lesson. It is a lesson in not letting the judicial branch become a clearing house for what Maggie Thatcher would refer to as dreaded consensus politics.
I am talking about the RINO Republican tendency to fear the media, then pick people who 'play the middle ground' with something that doesn't have a middle ground.
That something is called the rule of law. It is also known as the American Constitution. The Feldman appointment is a case where Reagan did the right thing, for the right reasons. I guess we should start getting tired of being right, but since right is right, we should just enjoy the ride.
What do you expect from the Obama-mania-media … I might add they also chose Mussolini in WWII.
The Democrats expect to lose big in the South and the Gulf States so this is just a preemptive strike at those unruly peasants.

Didn't the drilling moratorium fix the leak? or was it the lawyer's who fixed it? If not them the EPA and the stop order on the dredging for the berms?
Well at least the General getting shit canned yesterday got all this depressing stuff off the tube for a while!
Oh crap I live on the Gulf!
Note to THE CHOSEN ONE:
1. Waive the Jones act (Don't care about your Union buddies unless they can stop the leak)
2. Tell the EPA to go make sure nobody is drilling in Anwar while all this stuff is going on in the Gulf. At least Jindal has a plan (It may not be perfect but it's better than anything coming out of the beltway)
3. Find some people who have a clue, not your usual bunch of loons.
Gov. Barbers "Don't interfere with the enemy while he's making a mistake" sounds great but the oil isn't in MS yet.
I know. Anybody with a 401K owns stock in oil companies! How stupid is the AP? They are seriously heading into Rachel Maddow stupidity territory with this one.
What a disappointment. AP used to be reliable for quick and accurate headlines. When did they go off the rails? Maybe it's me. I just don't remember the "in your face" skew they approach EVERY story with these days.
Well that answers my question above, Tarpon. It WAS ME IN A COMA. Crikkies….Mussolini??? ew
right, Phantom…
Only Christ is still in a drug induced coma inviting folks to the "sugar beaches" of florida even as we see the oil stains all over it.
Wow….these guys are really in denial.
yes they do use petroleum products:
hair shampoo
shower and bath gel
hair conditioner
polyester clothing
nylon of all varieties
knit fabrics
polyester yarns
there is an extensive list of petroleum products being used. My list is only cursory. Just note I did not mention the gas or petrol to fill up a car, or the diesel that is used in aircraft etc.
So yes they are constantly using these products… the fools just do not get it!!
Ever since AP went to the dark side, I find myself checking out by-lines. I know the spin of the article before reading a sentence. How pathetic and wrong. They will go by the way side, but not soon enough.
I'm sure that no one at AP owns any stock in a petroleum-related company.
Also, AP totally misses the point of the judicial ruling. Obama and Salazar LIED. They totally misstated what the expert panel from the National Academy of Engineering wrote in their report:
Salazar's report lied and stated “…the recommendations contained in this report have been peer-reviewed by seven experts identified by the National Academy of Engineering.” This is a blatant LIE.
Judge Feldman blew this out of the water by writing "As the plaintiffs, and the experts themselves, pointedly observe, this statement was misleading. The experts charge it was a “misrepresentation.” It was factually incorrect."
Salazar LIED.
Obama LIED.
Where is the transparency and scientific integrity?
i guess the only thing missing from the story is the judges home address and phone number. or possibly they could have said when the seiu thugs would be marching to his house. i suppose they didn't mention weather or not this decision was based on law, or empathy toward the oil companies. we do need judges with empathy. also was this decision based on foreign law, or our constitution, these empithatic judges don't like our laws, they like foreign law better.
Three words:
DRILL BABY, DRILL……………………………….!
I have a great idea for plugging up the well in the gulf. Stuff it with Democrats! They're already a greasy bunch and in the long run it'll save the country trillions. I think it's an idea worth looking into. The only down side is that when you put that much trash in the gulf some pollution may occur.
Nothing from the AP but more Fiction. The truth is eco-thugs have threatened the life of the Judge who has no investments in any of the Companies named in the Law suit. This was verified by the 5th Circuit Court before the Judge heard the case.
We have home grown terrorists that Homeland Security won't recognize as threats. They don't fit the right profile because they are Lefties.
Granted, the disaster in the Gulf is a disaster.
I would be the last one to belittle that fact. The thing that has been the most entertaining for me, over the course of the past month, I haven't watched much of FOX News, or listened to conservative talk radio. With the exception of the Ridalin needing Sheppard Smith, most of FOX, and most of talk radio, think like I do.
It has been great entertainment watching Chris Matthews, Rachel Maddow, Keith Olberman, and Anderson Cooper. It has been further entertaining listening to NPR and the left wing moonbats frothing at the mouth, as they prepare en masse to throw their Chosen One, Barrack Insane Obama under the bus.
…………..and the wheels of the bus go round and round, ker-thud……….!
Texas, AP is very very left.
Did you hear that the major rig people will move their rigs into international waters? I don't blame them.
Obama-BP Oil Cataclysm Worsens: Day 65 of Death and Destruction
Irrevocably destroy America’s offshore drilling
By Sher Zieve http://votedemocraticparty.com/?p=961
Yes.
\\What you speak of, is Diamond Offshore; they will be the first.
Oilmen have had enough.
You want to talk about unemployment?
The oil industry, is the largest employer in the world.
If you take into account support services, and the trickle down effect, going clear down to the Mom and Pop corner grocery store, Obama doesn't have a clue.
"Big Oil" has been the Whipping Boy going clear back to the original "Trust Busters"; Teddy Roosevelt, and the Muckraker Ida Tarbell. Out of one side of their tainted mouths, politicians bemoan big oil, all the while picking their pocket for campaign contributions, while simultaneously, Oil and Gas Royalties in the Billions of Dollars are produced, and pour into the Government coffers.
The United States Government just committed financial suicide.
Arbitrary, Capricious and Above the Law
Scathing judicial rebuke
By Joy Tiz http://votedemocraticparty.com/?p=953
Nor do I, maybe they can come back once the national nightmare is over.
You know, that is not a bad idea. I have one Democrat in mind and with his substantial girth, may be all that is necessary to "plug the hole daddy". Of coures I have in mind that stand-up guy, that paragon of keeping the most sacred of vows, that fountain of hot air and b.s., St. Al Gore.
if they are too greasy, they will float, and not much good at plugging a deep oil well. but, we might be able to use the not so greasy ones as oil boom, and let them get thier fill of grease.
I hear our own Govt. loaned Petrobra (Brazilian Oil Company) $2B for their (significantly deeper then the Gulf) drilling projects – Mr. Obama's buddy, Soros, has invested heavily in Petrobra and is about to make a k.i.l.l.i.n.g. Question: if our government was really that worried about safety and the environment why the loan? Smell that? That's the c.r.a.p they've been selling and it smells worse then 6-month-old-fermented-skunk-butt.
…and the Gulf died…
Wouldn't it be nice. I wonder if they really do control him. He does seem to shout "How high?" when they say jump.
I miss the good ole days when newsmen were known to be biased and we always required information from several sources. Because we were actually taught critical thinking, we could listen to a speech without the talking heads telling us what we just heard after the speech. News media exist to sell ads, the news is written and presented by people in a way that attempts to increase readership and thus increase ad revenues. The news is presented to grab the audience, draw them in and be a sensational as possible to keep that viewer/reader. This, as most of us know, is why the old media outlets are going broke. People are using their critical thinking again. People are snapping out of the Woodward and Bernstein induced haze of romanticizing the news. The readers/viewers are tired of lies and condescension.
What amazes me is that we expect our news reporter to "tell it straight".

It's OBVIOUS that this criminal cabal a.k.a. the Obama Administration wants $8.00 gasoline and a self inflicted energy crisis to benefit it's political allies in the "green movement" and give justification to it's lunatic "Cap & Trade" push. Can you imagine the $$$$$ the leftists will bank if this scheme happens? Out of YOUR pocket?
They will NOT let this crisis go unexploited. Cutting back potential production from the Gulf in general, and B.P. specifically – in the name of "safety" is to Obama – heaven sent.
I'd be wiling to bet that Judge Feldman owns PROPERTY in the gulf, PROPERTY whose value is probably diminished as the oil inundates the Gulf's economy, so obviously he doesn't come to this ruling with clean hands, untainted by financial interest in the outcome.
Jb, it's as obvious as the nose on a person's face. I can't understand how so many just won't see what's going on. I guess, because it would take an hour or so of their time to learn something about it. They're the same cretins who voted for this bunch of Chicago crooks and caused this mess!
CL, I have great admiration for your ability to endure all that liberal "news."
You forgot Vaseline!
they're finally feeling, and thus behaving, like a cornered animal. they're in a dying medium, in a dying business model and they're lashing out blindly. they've always been left-to-far-left, but now they're letting it show more as a last gasp.
"Where is the transparency and scientific integrity?"
haven't you heard? only Big Oil's lackeys and other corporate shills are ever guilty of skewing facts, data, methodologies, conclusions, etc., to serve their own greedy interests. all-knowing, beneficent government and the 'scientists' in its employ are merely honest, humble public servants- utterly without guile or ulterior motives. i thought the whole AGW thing made this obvious in recent months…
He had sold those shares sometime back. AP is barking up the wrong tree.
FYI
“You don’t move sediment pumping pipe with volunteers. This is the lady that Thad Allen and President Obama are allowing hold up dredging to save our wetlands—God help us. What planet is this lady from? In her conference today Lyder was worried about the pelican nesting grounds. Obviously, she hasn’t been out there to see the birds covered in oil, just like the other people who make ridiculous comments. Maybe she should go sailing on a yacht in England with Tony Hayward, it would be a great place to send her on vacation. I’ll pay her way,” said President Nungesser.
The AP is a leftist rag and readers will not get unbiased reporting from them. They are masters at innuendo and the use of words to convey the meaning they want.
Lets take a look at the investments every one has ever had and judge them accordingly. Lets see who should we start with?
Man awaiting deportation allegedly threatened Harper – Toronto Sun…
I found your entry interesting thus I’ve added a Trackback to it on my weblog

Here's a good start at learning what products are made from petroleum:
http://www.ranken-energy.com/Products%20from%20Pe...
Don't worry, AP uses the hell out of them products.
Really?
Can you prove it? If you're gonna imply he has a financial interest via property, I'm sure the readers here, myself included, would love to know why he "so obviously doesn't come to this ruling with clean hands, untainted by financial interest in the outcome."
Please, indulge us….we're waiting on your proof……..
If he lives in the area (highly likely) it is highly likely he owns a house. Thus he owns property there, which has undoubtedly lost value as a consequence of the spill, which has assuredly hurt all property values in the Gulf. The assertion was S-A-R-C-A-S-M, mocking the illogic of the ad hominem assault on Judge Feldman.
Admittingly, "My Bad!" ~ Hopefully, "No harm, No foul".
Sorry R_E_S, I didn't read it that way and shoulda took a moment to check out your previous posts. I'd have learned a small bit that you seem to share many thoughts and opinions of others here, including me. I particularily liked the submitted quotes for the Father's Day piece.
Recognizing the quantity of your posts, I will assume you are new to the BIGS (so welcome). May I friendily suggest a <sarc> at the end of your posts. I've read where that helps. Cool?
No foul, no harm – my screen wiped clean without trouble. Frankly, I'm grateful to be read.
I don't usually have time to post here, but have been BIG-ing it since John Nolte left Dirty Harry's Place. I considered the notifier but was concerned it would be insulting to suggest it wasn't bleedin' obviously sarcasm.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I'm learning myself. They've got some very interesting and stimulating conversation on this and BJ site too. If you visit more often, you'll get an idea and become very familiar with those who frequent on a regular basis. It's a good site. Still needs some "refining" every now and then.
Have yourself a great weekend! See ya on the BIGS.
Although I usually don’t comment (or read many comments) I visit regularly and read (or skim — some of the items, such as House 1-minute speeches, don’t merit much attention) just about everything posted on the three sites (which is also one reason I tend not to spend much time on comments; there are only so many minutes in a day and preaching to the choir — or worse, debating the devil — isn’t the best way to spend them.) It occurs to me that the R_E_S screen name is a new one — I usually post as RES but that one was taken here (probably by me and I’ve forgotten the password.)
I don’t think there’s a site on the ‘net that doesn’t want periodic sweeping out, the ones on the Left more than those on the Right, but we get our share of dust bunnies. I’ve enjoyed the exchange and will watch for you around.
