“Every single Iranian is valuable. The government is at everyone’s service. We like everyone.”
-Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President of Iran, June 2009
I cannot use my real name. If the freedom of expressive condemnation practiced in this article were associated with my name I would never be permitted to return home. Dozens of family members would be in danger of interrogation and persecution for my words. This is an everyday reality for an Iranian-American. I live in America with my family and enjoy all the freedoms and privileges contained within the American dream. These are the freedoms that my fellow Iranians are fighting for. I use these rights to voice my thoughts and to condemn those who will not acknowledge our struggle.

On June 13th, 2009, in the aftermath of Iran’s tenth presidential election, the Iranian people marched through the streets outraged, denouncing the disputed and fraudulent re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. As a result, the regime’s security apparatus fought the people’s will and tried to repress all forms of civil activism. Using different news media outlets such as Twitter, Facebook and Youtube, the Iranian people allowed their protests to be heard around the globe.
The brutal death of protester Neda Agha Sultan gave a face to the struggle of millions of Iranian youth who simply demanded to live freely like many of their counterparts around the world.
You know what kills me every time I come home from the protests? The fact that they beat you with the intent to kill, and you don’t know what to do. If you go towards them, they hit you even harder; they run after a few young ones that are running away; you run after them and yell at them to leave those kids alone, but that is all you can do. Because you don’t have a gun, or a knife, not even a piece of wood; all that you have is a green wristband!
-Solmaz, Iranian Free Elections protester, 2009
With Iran’s internal struggle becoming a global subject of conversation, Time Magazine decided to put ‘Iranian Protestors’ on the list of candidates to become “Person of the Year.” Every year Time puts together a list of finalists for the coveted title and posts the list on the magazine’s website a few months before the annual issue goes to print. Online, Time readers can cast their vote on whom they think the person(s) of the year should be.
The Iranian protestors received 573,561 votes, out numbering second place President Obama by 400,000 votes and the magazines choice for person of the year, Ben Bernanke by over half a million votes. Yet somehow Time did not see fit to honor the Iranian freedom fighters with the title. In fact, in the December 15, 2009 ‘Person’ issue, Time disregarded the vote of over half a million readers by not once mentioning the Iranian Protesters. Thus, the votes of hundreds of thousands of Iranians, and non-Iranians weres once again ignored and discounted.
Frustrated by this account, I ask: Where has the spine gone in Western media?
I have had dozens of family members and friends marching through the streets of Tehran, getting beaten and arrested. They fight for the same freedom and democracy that the West has encouraged for years in the Middle East. The same freedoms America has sacrificed dearly for in the countries like Iraq and Afghanistan. One would think that these students would receive more support from the free Western media than we have so far. Instead we cannot even receive an acknowledgement, either from the media or officials in Washington.
A cracked empty voice spoke through my phone: “Pain is when you can’t feel your arm anymore, nor your leg, nor anything else in your body. You just can’t feel anything anymore; one of us didn’t come back today!” This was the response of my childhood friend after being beaten in the streets by the Iranian guard. Her anger and hatred shook me. She was becoming numb to pain, to loss, and all she could think about was fighting for her freedom. Nothing else seemed important enough to her anymore, not even her broken wrist or her bruised ribs.
Witnessing such accounts stirs me to action. What is it that I can do, being so far from home? Perhaps since I am in the US, thousands of miles away, recognition, acknowledgment of the struggle, and raising awareness are the only things we can do to let the Iranians know that their cries are not falling on deaf ears.
Neda Soltan
As an Iranian-American who is torn between two cultures and two homes, I ask you to continue taking a stand for freedom. US citizens, politicians and the news media need to acknowledge the fight that the Iranian students are putting up, and to show the Iranian government that the rest of the world is watching. The Iranian regime, with its bankrupt ideology, must know that this is a new era, in which personal freedoms and democracy are universal ideals; and that today, the world advocates for freedom and stands with the Iranian youth.

Western media headlines at face value seem to be mildly pro jihad, at best. The people of America on the other hand are SOLIDLY behind the Iranian citizens. I see 1776 in their hearts.

The MSM has decided to ignore the revolution in IRAN because the OBAMBI administration headed by OBAMBI himself has chosen to ignore the revolution. In the administrations minds it is more important to support the Islamic Republic rather than support the people of Iran.
This country will do NOTHING to support the people of IRAN, CUBA, NORTH KOREA, HONDURAS or anywhere else where people long to be free from their oppressors as long as BARRY O is President.
My landlady of my apartment, here in Spain, is a wonderful Iranian woman, and it breaks my heart the more I learn about the situation in Iran. But I'm still glad that it isn't as simple as it seems to be be portrayed by the assumptions of the Western Media,–> "We Americans hate Iran, and don't care."
This Administration couldn't care less about its OWN citizens. Why in the world would they be concerned about "the great unwashed" half way around the globe?
Sahar Irani,
Like all liberty-loving Americans, you have learned of the cowardice of "Time" magazine and much of the so-called mainstream media.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us here at BigJournalism.
The vast majority of Americans are with you and the Green Revolution in Iran.
Stay Strong, Brave and Beautiful for Freedom !
"The Iranian regime, with its bankrupt ideology, must know that this is a new era, in which personal freedoms and democracy are universal ideals; and that today, the world advocates for freedom and stands with the Iranian youth."
Barrack Hussein Obama ought take notice of that quote. But he won't. Nor will the world, nor the MSM. They are too busy slapping each other on the back; giving themselves Person of the Year Awards, and Nobel Peace Prizes.
Its sad to say, but the only way the Iranian people will get any support from the US government is if, God forbid, some terrible natural disaster should hit Iran. It breaks my heart to see what's going on there and hearing nothing out of my government. Our prayers are with the freedom fighters! May God come to your aid in this desperate time of need.
Everyday my children and I pray for the people of Iran. My 9 year old's prayer is: "Dear God, please give the people of Iran the strength to fight off their dictators. Amen."
Our thoughts are with you. We haven't forgotten you, even if the media has. We can not do much, but we can pray.
I can only agree with Flyover Country. This president does not support what most Americans consider freedom. He favors hard left strong arm types and "progressive" Europian socialism. Any one calling for real freedom he shuns. There is no "shining city on the hill" as long as he is president. And our old "free" press is dead. Do not look to them. Look to the new media, the new free press.
You are right. WE THE PEOPLE don't hate the people of Iran. We haven't been terribly happy with the Islamic Republic of Iran since they decided to become lawless and kidnap diplomats and hold them as prisoners.
The MSM will not cover much of anything if events there would possibly show "The One" in a bad light. BO will not do anything to help the Iranian people throw off the yoke of the brutal regime, and so, it is a non-story. The plight of the Iranian people does not fit the template of what is covered by the MSM.
I would hope that the Iranian people striving to be free, know that there are plenty of Americans who sympathize with them and pray that they are able to overcome. BO should be ashamed, and so too, should the MSM, but the ability to feel shame went out the window long ago.
That which we do not wish for others, we ourselves will lose.
Sadly I have to agree that the MSM is treating the Iranian citizens with the same
contempt that they've treated the U.S. citizens during the last Presidential
election. The MSM is so invested in the OBAMA Administration that they are
the "YES MEN" to the Adminstration and do their bidding……..
THE MSM IS DEAD IN THE UNITED SOCIALIST STATES OF AMERICA.
The main reason that Obama refuses to help Iran is because, he is trying his best, to adopt their strong arm policies! So far, the world sees' him as a weak leader, and nothing to worry about!
Our Old Media outlets will HIDE an grovel before these Islamic despots. Like the sniveling hacks in Hollywood they are dogmaticly ANTI-AMERICAN thus committed to ignoring the plight of freedom loving people anywhere freedom tries to emerge in the Middle East, Asia or Africa.
Iraq is troubled in 2010- BUT FREE. Harry Reid in 2005 "We have lost in Iraq"
the more I think about it…his barry sotero initials fit better…he is nothing but B S…..
When have the libs ever acknowledged righteous patriots fighting for freedom against political tyranny? Of course, the unfortunate fact (if you are a lib) that the correct spelling of righteous puts libs off of their feed comes into play.
If this were a group of "Reluctant Moms for Murder", or "The Defense League for Bell Curve Applications to Criminals" or perhaps Code Pink being maligned by Christians, it would have at least made Honorable Mention while being up against the Historic One. Their fears that images of people in a fight to the death for their FREEDOM would encourage increased patriotism in this country by the righteous is their motivation for the total omission of any mention for the Freedom Fighters in Iran. If the MSM could spin and lie about the motivations for these people to risk their lives into a pro-marxist cause it would have been placed 1st.
Why should Obamba and the MSM support the Iranian protesters in search of freedom and democracy? I’m convinced his real views are more in line with Ahmadinejad and the clerics….. Big top down government, for the elite, by the intellectuals and those that have a different POV are marginalized with the aid of a complicit MSM..
Obama and MSM are so far in bed together, there is no way to pull back the layersof cover to expose their real agenda.
OBAMA wants the same type of gov. in America, where he can feed his own EGO.
He will never support the protestors in IRAN, because it will expose his own dreams of his America, where he will be the extreme leader. His supports radical gov. across the world. His whole adm. heros are ,Castro, MAO, and any other oppressive gov.
IRAN PROSTERS don't expect any help from this adm.
American media, like our politicians, are so pro-Islam that it will lead to our destruction. As with all enterprise, politics and media included, follow the money.
If I were in an outhouse and had to chose between a corncob and a page from the Times, I would chose the corncob and drop the Times in after…
We scare because we care – DNC
Sahar, the sad truth is, you don't fit the narrative. Those brave souls in the streets of Tehran don't fit the narrative.
Many of the comments here refer to the "mainstream" media. Take heart in this, if nothing else…you are not being ignored by anything or anyone that is "mainstream thought" in this country. We, the people, stand in defiance of tyranny. We always have, we always will.
What you are experiencing from the leftist propaganda machine, is the burying of facts because those facts are in direct conflict with how they intend to portray the world.
Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to the fellow seekers of truth and freedom in Tehran and around the world. But, understand that we are in a battle to recapture truth right here. The whole purpose of this blog is precisely because we are being denied the very facts upon which to self-govern this land of ours and to understand and act upon world events.
This polluted "stream" of information about which you complain, has conspired to deprive us of the facts and truth about events local, national and global. The "Western Media" of which you speak slanders America and Israel with impunity. The BBC is notorious for its unfair treatment, and we here have our own …. equally bad.
Again, Sahar…this is not "mainstream" thought, belief, or attitude in this land of ours. We are all the victims of a stolen information stream, which is now diseased and polluted…and we shouldn't drink from it.
Well stated and true.
Obama does not want to stoop to such levels as freeing people. Obama's seez 'Let them eat cake'.
Yes… some of the Iranian people are willing to protest the radical regime. Yes, they should be supported and encouraged to overthrow the tyranical government and Yes, the U.S. government is SO screwed up with priorities misplaced and socialist agendas. Sadly, the Iranians will suffer the bombs and strategic attacks on their nuclear programs that threaten the world. IF I were living in Iran, I would move away from all the populated places and especially the nuclear facilities NOW. The insane Iranian regime is forcing Israel to protect themselves, forcing the free nations to protect themselves and forcing the Iranian people into servitude.
I am a veteran of VietNam, a natural American and a realist…. I KNOW what the powers around the world are being forced to do and I am very sad for the Iranian people for ALLOWING their country to be taken by insane, radical religous zealots sealing the fate of innocent Iranian people. I suggest that when the smoke clears, the good Iranian people take the arms from the military and use them against the radical regime and TAKE their country back. The world will assist them in this change, once the world sees the Iranian people stop protesting and get serious with killing the tyrants and their puppets. Sorry, not a soft and glossy statement, just the truth the way I see it.
Please remember ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN and MSM stand with your current government Ali Khamenei and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad…this is why you see absolutely nothing on American TV of the Iranian peoples plight for a "change" because of the leftist-democratic control over that media and who they stand with…This also explains why the leftist actors of America who are given such freedoms or a free media pass to side up with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Hugo Chavez and the rest of the leaders like them….I'm so sorry America has turned this way, please look to the Canadians, Germans, Spanish, and the French to help you and not towards the U.S, Russia or China as they side with your current leaders
You tell them!!!
Remember… if Neda had been here doing the same thing, the media would have been calling her a racist teabagger and Obama would have been telling her to "shut up and grab a mop".
Watching the video in the above article, I am reminded of our own protests, especially last Sept. when probably the largest group of people gathered in our nation's Capitol that has been there in recent history, yet they were treated the same way by the previously main stream media – with ignor-ance.
Ignored by the alphabet soup "news" organizations who are compliant if not owned by the extreme left idealists. If spoken of at all the peaceful protesters were heavily denigrated, which is rapidly becoming recognized as empty insults from the minds of those who have much less upstairs than a box of marbles.
So far this administration has not seen fit to commit acts of violence against peaceful protesters as has happened in Iran, well, except for some "isolated incidents" of the abuse of authority, yet the attitude is there and is demonstrated by the refusal to press charges against voter intimidators, overlooking outright assault by their own supporters, and seeking criminal trials against those who have declared war against the United States.
Yes, free America should support those who seek freedom in Iran and as has been mentioned several times, many are supportive of such movements. However, when our own powerful elite are working so hard at taking away our freedoms, they hardly have the time or the inclination to support others who are seeking those same freedoms they are trying to squash at home.
When the media betrays the Tea Party movement like terrorism instead of a patriotic act for rights, Then I'm sorry but they might portray you as a terrorist too. Protesting against government has become another ballgame.
obamas people are dying in Haiti but he is heading to help coakley tomorrow. obama just loves any regime that's against America. Wait til Blago goes on trial, then Rezko testifies against him (this is after rahm emanuel has quit his job and went into hiding, cause he's going to jail also). Rezko and Blago are the key against obama, then emanuel will be singing like a canary to save his dainty little physique. That's when obama will get impeached and get deported. At least he can go to a deserted island with his girlfriend, Vera Baker, rather than fat, ugly, hateful michelle.
The American people stand with you, the American political leaders aspire to be the same as Iran's leaders, standing against freedom of the people!!!!!!!!!
Obama is too busy bribing Senators and Congressmen over healthcare to be bothered with an entire nation about to change hands or a civil war. Either way he should be putting the eye on the real ball and stop trying to Nation build in Haiti or the healthcare, immigration, cap & trade, or any other of his loony ideas.
I'm gonna stand up for George Bush and recall fondly how often he stated people of the world yearn to be free and that the United States would serve as a beacon to guide and support them. Obviously, the reality of making that happen is quite different, but that man gave speech after speech laying everything he had on the line to make it happen for one nation in particular. I miss hearing his positive message that this nation stands for the rightness of freedom.
Even then, I don't see it happening. We have a little Haiti in the US, Biden just went and spoke there today with Nepalitano. THere are 9 million haitians many of whom swim or sneak into this country and make a prime ground for Acorn to work with. Obama can't do enough for them.
But Iran? They've had earthquakes, no one cared because there was nothing in it for their party, and not enough donations to make it worth their while.
Journalists are showing their own agenda in the stories they ignore. My heart goes out to Iranians, and my prayers are with their dream for freedom.
School food program cake.
Pure propaganda – even dredging up Neda. Sure you got the right picture this time? Who gained from that? She was killed by the "Operation Ajax II" types. An unwilling martyr. Sick people.
They had 1776 in 1979. It was in answer to 1953. And there won't be another Operation Ajax.
How about Bush opposing freedom in Taiwan and Gaza and Pakistan?
Where is the Western Media, you ask?
Why, they’re busy smearing Sarah Palin. That, or they’re peddling their “global warming” fraud, or whitewashing Obama’s latest act of unprecedented corruption.
Certainly too busy to report on trivialities like the Iranian people fighting for their very lives.
Here’s something you need to learn: there is no lower form of life than the American “journalist.” They are people without spines, without souls and without integrity. Don’t bother looking to them for anything other than lies and left-wing propaganda.
Why do you need coverage in the media to justify, support, or ennoble your actions? Who cares? Why is getting your revolution on television or radio networks the measure of its success? The media has no effect on your actions one way or another. Media coverage doesn't help you or hurt you. The media takes pictures, reads headlines, and sells advertising. That's what the media does. People who are worried about media bias are just upset that the bias isn't going their way. When you lose voter support, just blame the media. When you lose an election, blame the media. When everyone in the world sees your president as an imbecile, just blame the media. So easy, so wonderfully convenient. "Hey, we're all right – it's all the mainstream media! They wanted Obama! They were in the tank for Obama! That's why people voted for Obama! That's why we lost!" Uh, no. Sorry. Stop whining.
The western media in locked in on the socialist in our White House. He (Obama) is all words and no action! The American people are with the Iranian people and hope Iranians can topple your corrupt government. We're peacefully trying to do the same.
Uhh, Dave, you need to read up a bit more. Neda Soltan was KILLED by a police or Basij (government-backed) sniper last year. She cannot be given citizenship from the grave. "Sahar Irani" is a pseudonym, something like "Lady of Iran". From the column, she already has American citizenship.
I support the cause of the Iranian students, but due to past misbehavior / meddling by US intelligence forces, ANY expression of support is likely to backfire; the current (mis)government can claim we are meddling again. How about this: 1/10 of 1% of the stimulus money goes to an Israeli contractor to ship Ruissian small arms to the Iranian people, to be used to defend / claim their freedom. A few hundred thousand pistols might go a long way towards leveling the playing field for the freedom-loving types over there. (Guest for obvious reasons)
Neda Soltan. Person of the Year? Let's notch it up a bit. Eh?
Time Magazine goes with Helicopter Ben. Great. Let's reward bad behavior. No. Let's embrace bad behavior. No. Let's shield, protect and conceal bad behavior. You are a disgrace Time.
Ms. Soltan should be given US citizenship. She is more American than those pathetic MoveOn & DailyKos wannabe's 8 day a week. God Bless her soul. She is my inspiration in 2010.
Dear Sahar Irani, I join the other commentators here and with the rest of the American people to tell you that we support you and your cause with all our hearts. You deserve the freedom to choose your own government representatives, the freedom to speak your mind without fear, the freedom to join your countrymen to protest your government, and the freedom to live your life as you choose. We are fighting for the same things here in the US, as our government threatens to take away our civil rights. We must all stand together to demand these freedoms from governments around the world. Thank you for speaking out.
You may have seen a much stronger supportive action from the American people if the Muslim community in America would have stood against Islamic Jihadist. Just saying…….
Don't worry — If the Iranian dissidents are successful in toppling Ahmedinejad and the current regime, the media will come running and the protesters will discover not only that the big media outlets were behind them 100 percent on a 24/7/365 basis, but that they owe their success to the efforts of Barack Obama, thereby proving his strategy was the correct one in contrast to the confrontational tone of George W. Bush (in fact, the Iranian protesters will also no doubt be surprised to learn in the first days after the overthrow that they're actually among Barack Obama's biggest supporters…)
Re: Iraq is troubled in 2010- BUT FREE. It hardly helps when the Islamic citizens are empowered with the ability to carry out "street justice" according to Sharia Law — over the non-Muslims who they are permitted to kill without punishment. The Sharia Law prevents them from being truly "FREE" in our sense of the word.
"…Rezko and Blago are the key against obama…"
It will never, ever happen, my friend.
This will never see the light of day and whatever deals needed to be made are already signed, sealed and delivered. We will only see the dog and pony show.
Really? Please illuminate us, oh enlightened one!
As one who regularly does business in Taiwan, I know for a fact that GW is respected and admired far more than the current occupant of the White House. The Taiwanese people are very proud of the fact that they are the only Chinese that live in true freedom. If GW had done anything to honestly compromise or complicate that freedom, it would have been published in Taiwan, Singapore, and South Korean newspapers ad nauseum. It never happened. Why? Because President Bush didn't do a fraction of the nefarious claims made by those sickened by BDS, and he sure as hell didn't do anything restricting/compromising/alienating freedom in Taiwan.
…and the shipping of hundreds of thousands of pistols wouldn't be considered meddling? While I support the notion, your analysis needs improving. BTW, writing as GUEST limits your credibility somewhat.
Seems like Dhasselhoff is letting his/her true colors shine through with tremendous clarity. Based on the comment above and previous dribble, this person is either A) a member of Venezuela's foreign agitprop cadre or B) a committed member of Ahmedummyjad's secret police. Either way, those two options rather clearly explain Dhasselhoff's worldview.
A few questions for you:
1. Are you willfully ignorant or do you just choose to ignore the power of western media throughout the world?
2. Are you capable of making cogent points without wandering into extra-topical dribble?
3. What in the world does the Iranian freedom struggle have to do with widespread American citizen distrust of the old media?
Until you can improve your rhetorical skills, please leave the commenting about important issues to the adults.
I watched Neal Cavuto interview a Saudi prince the other day. Like he always does with billionaires he boot licks these guys and cowers in their presence. What was revealed during the interview was that this prince is heavily invested in Murdoch's media empire and according to the prince his investment is a long term strategic investment. The prince also admitted to owning Time-Warner shares as well and again, his financial position will never be sold off as his interest is "long-term and strategic."
If you go to the Atlas Shrugged website you'll learn that oil sheiks are all investing in American media and the wonks in not only the MSM, and now as it was revealed, Fox as well, are not working for the American people but their puppet masters in the dictatorships in the Arabian peninsula. So, not only are they controlling our energy supplies they are controlling our access to information and what's going on in not only the U.S., but the world. This clearly shines light on why the media is reporting the way they do about Islamofascism and terrorism.
We must stop stop wondering why the MSM reports the way they do and goes to great pains to avoid telling the truth about Islam and its ultimate goal and that's the subjugation of not only America, but the world. We must go to underground sources of information, call out the bought and paid supporters of the Islamic dictators and stop supporting their news casts and publications so that these investors continue to throw money at the elitist millionaires who spout out their propaganda. And, we need to realize that because of their oil, the Arabs of the Arabian peninsula own us lock stock and barrel and manipulate not only our military and economy but our minds as well. Only we have the ability to stop it.
Dude. Forgive you. I know she took a bullet. God bless her.
"She cannot be given citizenship from the grave."
IN the USA yes she can Sir.
…cake that is given to people who don't really need it, but take it because it's "free" (well, the taxpayers actually pay for it, but you know what I mean…).
These freedom fighters, spurned by former Pres. Bush's promises, and actions, are not forgotten by those of us, who value freedom. It's my heavy heart to say, that the current US admin does not care one iota. That's unfortunate; their misbegotten priorities are an embarressment to me.
What I can do is pray, that God is coming to help the people of Iran. I am one person; and I'm sure that there are millions of americans feeling we could assist in Iran in many ways.
I am so sorry, that Pres Bush is no longer in charge; he would have already iniated some type of actions to help the people in Iran. To be free is everyones right, regardless of nationality or anything else.
Sahar, please tell your friends and family in Iran that the American people are on their side, even if our MSM and wannabee dictator president are silent. Their noble heroism is recognized here, and inspires us. I wish we could offer more than good wishes.
I understand your statement but I don't think there is any comparison.
After all you are posting here right?
Sarcasm right?
Our panty wearing metrosexual "president" is more concerned with the destruction of the Republic than freedom. Slavery and death are the demo-rats stock in trade. The American in the street however, sees the revolt of the Iranian people for what it is; an attempt by the citizens to throw off the tyranny of the mullahs, and their madman a-dinner-jacket. Americans ALWAYS support freedom and the fight for Liberty. Just because the traitors in Washington would rather lick to boots of the thugs in power in Iran, does not mean that the American people do not support the Iranian people. We here with our head intact from hope and change know that if the thugs in Congress continue to act like dictators, we also will be in the streets fighting for freedom.
Barry agrees with Chavez that Zelaya should be president for life of Honduras. When Zelaya tried it in direct defiance of the law in the constituion his own Judiciary, Congress, and military removed him and within months new elections were held a new president was elected. However, Barry so supported the Zelaya coup that for a while his people were saying they would never recognize the new President. Yep, Barry and Chavez are two peas in a socialist pod.
Thank you for your courageous article young lady. May you and your family be protected, and enjoy the wonderful freedom that exists (for now) in Obamao's America. Surely you understand that the media does not have time to cover a real story like the struggle in Iran because they are so busy being the president's lapdog for his socialist agenda. We do not have a mainstream media in this country any longer. We have a number of dying institutions, filled with communists, masquerading as media outlets. The politically correct progressives and their doofus followers will soon turn this country into a socialist version of Iran.
Please understand, the U. S. will be unable to offer you any moral support until we clean out the current White House Communists and return to our normal republic. You may have to wait a few years.
this is exactly why we need to protect and expand gun rights in the U. S. When it comes time to remove the despots, we need to have some manner of weapons to defeat them. It can't be done with knives and sticks. Every law-abiding home in the U. S. should be armed and ready for when the time comes. The country is certainly on the way toward what Jefferson and the rest of the Patriots had in mind when they wrote the clause to guarantee the right to bear arms.
Sharia Law is down right nutty from where I sit. It's right out of the 8th of 9th Century.
Complete lunacy.
Good bless you and all the Iranian people struggling to free themselves from a ruthless religious dictator. You will not be able to rely on the weak Obama Administration for help. They are to busy kissing the backsides of our REAL enemies China and Russia. Not until he gets a back bone like Reagan and puts these 2 TRUE enemies in their place will we be able to help anyone else in the world. If it wasnt for these two countries backing the butt licking mullahs of Iran we would have been able to help you long ago.
As a matter of FACT WHERE THE HELL DID THE DAYS OF GOOD OLE AMERICAN STREET PROTESTING GO? DIDNT WE START THIS STAND UP FOR YOURSELVES JOIN HANDS IN STREETS MOVEMENTS? WHY CANT THE PEOPLE OF AMERICA GET THEIR ARSES UP OFF THE COUCH AND FORM SOME OF OUR OWN DEMOSTRATION AGAINST OUR WEEK OR UNWILLING GOVT. NOW IM PISSED!!!!
media ignores whats happening to iranians as they are igoring the tea-baggers-the have their own agenda and it isn't freedom but tyranny-as in the dem hold on gov here

We can keep complainin or we can vote them out .
Lets get some conservatives back in office , and get back to our constitution
The western media is hoping against hope that the dictator will maintain power. The western media never saw a tyrant they did not love.
Guv'ner, Bush made explicitly clear that while we officially switched recognition over to Beijing, we would NOT tolerate any moves against the Taiwanese.
Pakistan is a horrifically broken mess that largely seems to break down to "Corrupt military dictatorship + some outnumbered and handicapped Republicans VS the Islamists", and the US has to go with the lesser of two evils.
As for Gaza, Bush can hardly do more to oppose freedom in Gaza than the Gazans do themselves, when they continuously prop up terrorist governments that only serve to make them more marginalized and radicalized.
Do some research.
I dearly hope that is sarcasm.
Do you not fear this same corruption & gradual loss of these freedoms , even in America?
Maybe Sahar says it best, "I use these rights to voice my thoughts and to condemn those who will not acknowledge our struggle."
Both nations struggles are with Jihadist. Some see the struggle of Iranians but refuse to see the struggles of America. Some call for spine in the Western Media. I also call for the spine of American Muslims.
In case anyone has forgotten. They are all Muslims in Iran. Smiley faced/teary eyed westernized elite exiles that want to do a Chalaby on you are everywhere. And while you all suck in the Kabuki dance and piss and moan, the centrifuges whine only slightly less in volume.
I was too young at the time but I do recall the Islamic revolution got a lot of press against the "evil" Shah. At leat it did in my home country. It is a shame what has happened to the world.

Damn good piece and we should see more from similar people here where they can remain anonymous and keep this issue percolating.
Freedom, liberty, self determination. These aren't merely western or American values. Cultural differences aside these are the natural state of the human condition, and every human yearns for them deeply. It's an unassailable fact, above reproach. Stifling these is like pouring ten pounds of sugar into a two pound sack, it will inexorably 'leak out' one end of the other. The Iranian government has suppressed the natural state of humanity to the point where people would rather be beaten or die than shut up. Clearly this is a profound affront to every living thing.
In case you are unable to view her photo, Neda Soltan is wearing a cross.
And writing as Poppakap makes you an authority? VBG!
Actually, I was suggesting having the Israelis do it because they are most directly threatened by this regime – after the Iranian people themselves. Since having raving maniacs in possession of nuclear weapons might threaten you as well, are you sure you want to object? After all, once the current regime nukes Israel, they might decide we're next – if they don't change their (barking mad) minds and nuke the "Great Satan" first.
Ah, but her body's buried in Iran!
Sorry, misread your comment – God bless her, indeed.
You appear to be either totally ignorant, or a hateful troll. What purpose is served my maligning the memory of another people's martyr? I'm with Poppakap on this one: go away and rot quietly.
bah! "purpose is served by"

Writing with a bonafide username has nothing to do with authority, it's about perception I'm simply saying that those who post as Guest are generally not taken as seriously as someone who takes the time to register with a site, makes a username, etc. Otherwise, you will be often considered a drive-by blabber who is not invested in the conversation.
Once again, my comment was about your analysis of the issue, not that I disagreed with the sentiment. As I wrote in my previous post, "…While I support the notion, your analysis needs improving." Unfortunately, your analysis still hasn't improved. My question for you, which remains unanswered, is why would the Iranians NOT suspect western meddling given the MO you suggested? It matters not that an Israeli agent would be involved nor that Russian arms were distributed. Any sudden flooding of the populace with handguns would be unequivocally blamed on the US/Israel.
FWIW, I am a bit of an authority regarding user names. I have an MBA with an emphasis in Internet Marketing. Professionally, I study and measure the responses of people to different elements on any given web page. And yes, those that use a username that isn't offensive or silly are perceived as more credible than those that comment as Guest. Since you seem a fairly intelligent person that probably wants to be taken seriously, I offered the comment as advise, not as criticism. Take it or leave it.
I'm sorry to tell you but, the MSM is on Iran's side..

"The Iranian regime, with its bankrupt ideology, must know that this is a new era, in which personal freedoms and democracy are universal ideals; and that today, the world advocates for freedom and stands with the Iranian youth."
Well said. Very well said
