Susan Swift, aka “Susan from Glendale,” first came to national attention last fall via the Rush Limbaugh show. You can see and hear her conversation with Rush here.
In 2008 the GOP suffered a heart attack. For years, a graying, obese GOP abused the body politic and ignored the warning signs: fat-laden budgets, feeding at the earmark trough, sedentary legislative agenda, self-abusing scandals, and stubborn disregard of pleas to stop. In a too-little-too-late act of desperation, the elderly GOP reached out to a young, vibrant woman. Like electroshock therapy, Sarah Palin got the GOP’s heart restarted briefly, but she could not cure the political atrophy sufficient to overcome a leaner, energized Democrat challenger. The near-fatal seizure in November was the culmination of years of GOP arrogance and dysfunction.

Fifteen months ago, concerned Americans watched the GOP coronary on election night as a stunning wake-up call for the nation’s larger health. They realized the dangers posed by the only political party left standing, the Democrat party and its devotion to collectivism, high taxes and coercive nanny-state government.
They have watched Democrats shred core American principles as they bludgeoned their way to control over private businesses and financial institutions, and enacted incomprehensibly huge pork barrel legislation. Now they watch in horror as Democrats work to steal control of the nation’s healthcare system and to impose energy standards poisonous to private enterprise and based on overtly corrupt and fraudulent junk science.
Then these concerned Americans did something revolutionary. They became Conservative Jedi. They knew instinctively that a third party system in America would secure generational Democrat control and doom capitalism. So they came together of themselves, led by no one in particular but united by their common love of freedom, country and core American principles. They began to organize. What would soon be called the Tea Party was simultaneously born in millions of homes — and in millions of hearts.
The Tea Party is a nationwide phenomenon, led by no single man or woman, despite many who aspire to be its leader in order to wield its potentially awesome power. It’s fast, flexible and fluid, connected through 21st century technologies such as Facebook and Twitter and email, and capable of raising millions literally overnight for conservative candidates such as Scott Brown.
This swelling grassroots Tea Party passion now comes to the aid of an indolent GOP. The New York Times recently reported that tea party patriots are moving to take over the GOP from within by running in local elections to be precinct leaders. While that may be an accurate description generally, it is not a takeover per se. Rather it is a transfusion of new lifeblood, a heart transplant if you will, for a moribund GOP on life support.

These “Conservative Jedi” are not a fringe part of the Red State Rabble, as many in the MSM would have you believe. They are, for the most part, registered Republicans who believe that the GOP has drifted so far away from its core values that it no longer truly represents them. In their eyes, it is the GOP who rightfully bears the moniker RINO, “Republican in Name Only.”
In a recent tea party general meeting in Southern California, more than 200 of us stood together, said the Pledge of Allegiance, and then read aloud words written by a fallen hero in WWI, a pledge this writer has dubbed the “Patriot Pledge:”
America must win this war. I will work, I will save, I will sacrifice, I will endure, I will fight cheerfully and do my utmost, as if the issue of the whole struggle depended on me alone.
This pledge is almost one hundred years old. It was written by Martin Treptow, an American soldier killed in battle during WWI, and found written in a diary retrieved from inside his jacket next to his heart. Private Treptow is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. This is how he died:
As the battle drew to an end, a messenger was needed to deliver an important word to one of the platoons. Private Martin A. Treptow, barber turned warrior, grabbed the message and moved out under fire. As he reached the platoon leader, Treptow was shot down by a hail of bullets.
In honor of his memory. the “Patriot Pledge” voices the commitment that millions of Americans are making to this new political battle that is quite literally nothing less than a 21st-century American Revolution. They are rallying to join the political firefights that will be the mid-term elections and the presidential election of 2012. These patriots are pledging themselves to revitalize the GOP with truly conservative Reaganite principles, ones that we know are honored by most Americans
This writer is proud to be one of these registered Republicans, these tea party patriots, these Conservative Jedi.

Susan,
Thank you for your article, and I commend you for your activism. Perhaps it is high time we ALL became "Community Organizers", and choked them to death on the same Saul Alinskey tactics that have been used against US for years.
"This swelling grassroots Tea Party passion now comes to the aid of an indolent GOP."
The GOP still does not "get it". I believe that after the polls close tonight in MA, they might begin to savvy.
HONK IF YOU WANT YOUR COUNTRY BACK!! That bumper sticker and more at http://www.keep2theright.com
I remember hearing this call on the radio that day. It was beautiful! I'd like to see Susan in a debate with any of the libtards in DC, because she would trounce them in the arena of ideas. Conservative Jedi…love it!!

Patriots like Susan and posters here give me GREAT hope that we can re-right the ship and take this country back..
God Bless you Susan and yes you did speak for me amd my family that day as I'm sure you spoke for millions more !!!
"They knew instinctively that a third party system in America would secure generational Democrat control and doom capitalism." I don't believe this has anything to do with how the long-term will play out. In the short term, if conservatives can turn around the Republican party, so be it.
I think it is more a case of conservatives no longer drinking the GOP kool-aid. It's a simple case of supply and demand; if the GOP wants to survive, they will supply what conservatives demand. If not, another party – regardless of how initially weak or insufficient – will replace it.
This photo immediately brought to mind the federal government – too fat, not nimble, and unable to perform its primary functions.
Does that Alinsky tactic include lying? I know that Obama has lied straight faced to the American people? We must take America back telling the truth. Don't you agree?

I do agree.
I said that tounge in cheek.
The truth is good, the truth never changes. Obama is a liar, documented and unmitigated/
"So they came together of themselves, led by no one in particular but united by their common love of freedom, country and core American principles. They began to organize. What would soon be called the Tea Party was simultaneously born in millions of homes — and in millions of hearts."
I cried when I read this post and the words above. This is EXACTLY what happened to me and my newly found patriot friends, and no, it had nothing to do with a black man being elected President. It had to do with all the bad policies and bad decisions that led up to the near collapse of our system – under both parties. I woke up during TARP, was perplexed when contract law went out the window with mortgage modifications, shook my head over the auto bailouts, opened my eyes further over the "Recovery Act," threw up over the California tax increases and budget battles, got off the couch to help stop a further tax increase in California being voted in, CONT.
CONT.
got really pissed off when our Supreme Court would not uphold bankruptcy law by allowing GM and Chrysler to foresake its creditors for unsecured unions, started a local Tea Party for the 4th of July, was amazed at the turnout that one person can start along with others that sign on, was disgusted by members of Congress treating their constituents like swine in August, marched on September 12, sat aghast at Cash for Clunkers, went to my representative's office to state my opposition to the health care bill, emailed, faxed and called all of Congress to protest their lack of reading, publishing and letting the American sunlight have time to shine on bills that are mandated on the American people. Call that rightwing, wacko, nutjob, astroturf, racist and crazy? I am an American and a patriot that was asleep, but no more.
Thank you "Susan from Glendale", you are "we", to put it inartfully…I too see a reshaping of the GOP.
We must bend the party back to it's roots, away from the "McCain brand" of soft words and mushy ideas…
A guy married to $100 plus million dollars isn't a bad guy, just an out-of-touch guy.
Of course the Democrats are completely out-of-touch – bashing a guy campaigning out of a GM pickup truck shpws their arrogance and hubris…
Love it, "Conservative Jedi!" I want a bumper sticker with that on it. I admire Ms. Swift for her passion and desire to be just a mom….patriot mom!
As I approached my 50's, having watched my daughters fly the nest, I began to wonder what was the next stage in my life. I spent a few years contemplating this question and in 2007 I became engaged in the political world as I watched our nation elect an obvious radical as President. I knew early on that O would be our next President as we watched the MSM ignore the facts surrounding O's radical political connections. In 2007, I put myself under the tutelage of Rush, Beck, Levin and many books they recommended, so I could be able to articulate what I felt. There are millions of us moms out there! We are fed up, educated and will be engaged in the political process as it gears up this year in 2010. There is a movement coming that has not been seen since the original revolution of this country. I believe that today will be the first ''shot" the polititcians will hear and finally begin listening to their constituents.
Thank you Susan for your words and speaking out for us…continue on the journey!

and I am not a progressive (hence change of moniker), not that I really knew what that was a year ago, but now I do. I do not want to see the fundamental transformation of our country, I like my country just fine. I do not want to see a second bill of rights – unless it is voted in by Constitutional amendment. I want my liberties and freedom of speech, and I want the federal government restricted by the first bill of rights. The tenth amendment is important, is is there for a reason, and has been run roughshod over by the feds for 100 years. I have read and re-read our Constitution in the past year, and I don't see the basis for many, many things our government is doing. Our limited government has turned into a massive government, and the march to the left accellerated to such a degree that the millions of us who awoke are really awake and participating in the process like we never have before.
Then we must attend the GOP meetings and begin to speak out against these RINO's and see if the GOP is willing to pick up a conservative platform. I believe if conservatives infiltrate the GOP they will soon realize that the movement is real.
I do admit it is a sad day when we have to infiltrate what was once a conservative party
Amazing…
Its like this came out of MY mouth…and I didn't say a word of it…!
ATP is on the ground in the Roundhouse in Santa Fe, lobbying for SJR-02 to reject the health care bill in Congress…
We're going after the local and state races…and backing the right folks on the federal level, too…
Folks, look for candidates that will pledge to "de-fund" these messes coming out of Congress, and back them up to the hilt…
Don’t forget us Independents and non card carrying republican sympathizers. The tea parties have a lot more going for them than disgusted party members.
Dear Mrs. Swift, if you're reading these comments, please know I was listening to Rush that day and I was sad and discouraged (living the the CA Bay Area will do that to one) and I heard your voice as I got out of the shower. I was mesmerized by your passion and I heard this voice screaming, "YES, YES!" and then I realized it was me!
Bless you – you got me up off my rear end and I'm now doing my homework and doing what I can to help get real conservatives elected.

Hey Cowboy, right you are, I have been wondering how we combat the lying name-calling….
I have ordered Patrick Leahy's book Rules for Conservative Radicals, I think it will help us! Here are the rules he proposes.
Rules for Conservative Radicals
I offer these 15 Tactical Rules for Conservative Radicals , which I recommend for consideration by all Conservative Radicals, in addition to 9 of Saul Alinsky’s Tactical Rules that are as relevant for today’s Conservative Radicals as they are for today’s Left Wing Radicals.
The Conservative Radical’s Tactical Rules
1. It is better to be 85% right and quick than 100% right and slow.
2. Do what you can right now with the technologies, resources, and time immediately available to you.
3. Use free and cheap technologies at every opportunity
4.Observe Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment – do not engage in personal attacks of fellow conservatives in public forums. Anything you say will be ammunition for the left. Personal disputes among fellow conservatives are best handled privately.
5. When communicating through any public forum on the internet–Twitter, blogs, websites – remember that anything digital lives forever, so refrain from the use of profanity, personal attacks, or statements that are factually unsupportable.
6. Publicly engage with the left only when there is a clearly identified goal that has a reasonable likelihood of being accomplished through the engagement.
7. Privately engage with the left when you are confident you are dealing with a person of honor and good will whose personal integrity has not been compromised by Saul Alinsky’s moral nihilism.
8. When engaging with the left let no falsehood go unchallenged.
9. When dealing with the left, look for opportunities to persuade open-minded opponents of the merits of conservatism.
10. When evangelizing to open minded members of the left, be a friendly teacher guiding your students towards conservatism, not an argumentative and arrogant haranguer bent on demonstrating your intellectual superiority.
11. Seek out opportunities to collaborate with like-minded conservatives through self organizing projects.
12. You earn a seat at the table of a self organizing project by showing up, doing the work, and collaborating effectively with your project colleagues.
13. Successful self-organizing projects are characterized by:
(a) rapid response consensus development of goals and tactics
(b) transparent real time communication between project colleagues
(c) rapid implementation of tactics by a core group of the most engaged project colleagues
(d) whose personal conduct is guided by the principles of project servant-leadership.
14. Once you have earned a seat at the table, you have a right to participate in the development of a consensus. But if you don’t show up to participate, you lose the right to complain about decisions made by the group in your absence. The process drives forward relentlessly on a 24-7 time clock
15. When conflict arises within your self organized project, and the conflict is not resolvable, leave the project, start your own new project with those who are of like mind, and wish your former project colleagues Godspeed.

So right you are….So many elections are won by independents—look at Massachuttes. I think we have to stop voting the party and vote for conservative candidates. But until the playing field in Wash. D. C. is a more level playing field, I will not vote for any democrat for federal office!
Thanks to Susan, and so many just like her, the tea party is now becoming a viable force in American politics. But we have just begun. We must educate and arm ourselves. Read early American history, start a library of books on fighting progressives, learn Patrick Leahy's rules for Conervatives, and join the Republician party and work to make it the party we deserve! Go tea party and partiots, you are making a huge difference and have given people hope
Hey all you conservative bloggers we must start using Patrick Leahy's rules for conservative radicals!
8. When engaging with the left let no falsehood go unchallenged.
So let's go to the progressive sites and confront the lying!
Is there any hope that the Bay Area will turn on Pelosi and vote her out of office, hope, hope!
Absolutely, Alinsky says the end justifies the end, so any tactic is ok, forget morals, just look at the end game. They play by a totally different set of values than the ones of our forefathers. Alinsky also says man's most potent weapon is namecalling, hense all the name calling you hear on MSM.
Remember Obama taught Alinsky's rules to community organizers, it is their Bible!
Tactical Rules from Saul Alinsky that are as relevant for today’s Conservative Radicals as they are for today’s Left Wing Radicals
1. Never go outside the experience of your project colleagues
2. Wherever possible, go outside the experience of the opposition
3. Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.
4. A good tactic is one that your project colleagues enjoy.
5. A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag
6. Keep the pressure on
7. The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition.
8. Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.
9. Make the opposition live up to their own book of rules.
Note: I have changed the word “people” in rules 1 and 4 to the words “project colleagues”, and the word “enemy” in rules 2 and 9 to “opposition”.

Susan, thanks for the link! I would never have imagined, back when I wrote that post, that you would eventually link back to me from one of Andrew Breitbart's sites. I love it!
The tea party and 912 are not mostly registered republican, more than half are Unaffiliated and democrat, and not content on saving the republicans.. I was part of the 912 and tea when we were still considered crazy by both parties and neither helped us. I have been battling a republican take over of the movement from the beginning for they are progressives and not worth supporting.
This is non partisan push to save the country not a party who used the constitution as toilet paper.
No, she's in a very safe district! San Francisco, and most of the cities surrounding it, are gone. I don't know what happened to a once beautiful city, but I avoid it like the plague! Which I'm afraid I might catch if I go there!
Ewwwww, cooties! Seriously, have you read the stuff there? Potty mouth doesn't even cover it. I feel like I need a shower after making a foray into one!
I hope you read my posts above. I see you a lot, sometimes agree, sometimes not, but this is the beauty of free expression.
Scott Brown, new Senator from MA is just the beginning.
I hope (and think) they got the msg in the House and Senate on the Democratic side. DO NOT PUSH THRU HEALTH CARE IF YOU WANT TO CONTINUE IN YOUR CAREER. Yes, I have attended several TEA PARTIES, and I am not a right winger, fringe element, lunatic. I am the …mom of a 19yr old son and my concern is for our future… HIS future and his generation's future.
I hope the politicans were paying attention to the GOP win last night in Mass. I am so excited that Americans have woken up.——Susan, great article.
Susan, excellent article. You spoke for me when I heard your call on Rush Limbaugh's show that day. I think your call was a clarion call to all the great conservatives, regardless of party affiliation, to take back our country. It was definitely the first shot across the bow.
Susan, our conservative voices are rising and we are standing up to take back our country.
Please visit us at AsAMom.org (a sisterhood of mommie patriots). There are thousands of moms educating ourselves and one another politically, and we are taking action across America.
SUSAN I'm a little behind in the news
Keep the Good Work
yes, and I agree with your post. It didn't grow out of nothing it was done by people like us talking to people one person at a time. Browns victory is truly a unaffilated victory for he must keep his word for there is no republican power base. That is the power of being unaffilated.
To all those folks who mostly vote for Republican candidates but keep referring to "Republicans" and "GOP" as if that doesn't include you: you're wrong. Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty and that means your personal vigilance, not somebody else's.
Susan, I too was listening that day. Rush's radio instincts are sharp as a tack, and I knew that he was holding his tongue allowing you to vent without interruption until you asked him what YOU could do. I felt that shudder, as did millions more, as he wrapped up your segment. THIS is what the Tea Party movement is, what talk radio is, what New Media is. Those of us who attended Tea Parties knew that what we witnessed was profound, uniquely American, grassroots activism. When we watched TV that night we heard snide derisive "teabagger" comments and were dismissed as kooks and racists.
The MSM kicked over a hornets nest. We don't LIKE being called childish names and being called racists. Your passion was real, our anger is real, and we will breathe Founding Fathers' life into the GOP or they will cease to be. Joe the Plumber, Sarah, Scott Brown, Susan from Glendale. These are amazing times!
Susan-just one word for your little speech…ridiculous!
The one thing that conservatives (especially christian conservatives) must learn : We must not be afraid to get dirty or BLOODY. The founders weren't and neither are all the folks fighting to keep us free. My fear with fellow coservatives has always been the "turn the other cheek" mindset that seems to go with coservatism. This is how you wind up getting spine-less rinos and wimps like we have now in the republican party. Dear God, give us a leader like George S. Patton for once. We need WARRIORS, not WIMPS.
This photo immediately brought to mind of Rush Limbaugh – too fat, not nimble, and unable to perform his primary functions.
thankyou
"Conservative Jedi", I love it! But I would, I'm a Stars Wars nerd at heart.

Please, show the gov you mean business by getting rid of McCain. He has a good heart,BUT he has had years of feeding at the same trough as the Dems, and it shows. He calls it Bi partisan,I call it giving in to the big boys and letting them do what they want for a mention in the credits.
He has had TOO LONG to fix things.Allow someone new to try.
