Holding (burying?) this story until Saturday afternoon, The Washington Post regurgitated a likely Friday night White House talking points memo that Obama won’t try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the 9/11 Mastermind, in federal court

because of the opposition of lawmakers in Congress and in New York…. key administration officials fear that no federal case could proceed, given stiff congressional opposition. It is expected to grow more intense when the new Republican majority assumes power in the House of Representatives.

Translation: It’s the Republicans’ fault!  And Obama can’t put the military prosecution genie back in GITMO bottle because that “option would alienate liberal supporters.” What’s a president to do?

Literally buried at the very end of the story, WaPo mumbles what may be the Regime’s hope and plans for change: Since Obama’s taken the oath to defend and protect our country, he’s reduced the number held in GITMO by 67. These terrorists, uhh Islamic extremists, hmmm well, man-made disaster designers, are being released, sent back home or “resettled” (just what is that anyway, an under-cover terrorist protection program?) through “diplomatic efforts.”

Other Make-Believe Media reporting on WaPo’s White House talking points unintentionally confirmed Obama’s adoption of his predecessor’s wisdom and legal argument:  “Obama administration officials said Mohammed and four alleged co-conspirators can be held under laws of war, until a trial location is agreed on….”

Gee.  Using the laws of war to hold KSM indefinitely?  Is the War On Terror back on?

The atmosphere over at Democratic National Committee headquarters has to be pretty gloomy these days. Their party’s prospects in November have progressed from dismal to disastrous and there’s no telling how much worse it can get. Over at the Dem’s website, nobody has bothered to update news about their famed “50 State Strategy” since September of last year. Perhaps, had they employed a “57-State Strategy” instead, the future might look a little brighter for them.

Let it not be said that conservatives and libertarians are without empathy. We’ve been there. We know how disheartening it is when your party of choice is about to get clobbered and worse, when that happens because party leaders refuse to heed your message. We can only hope that  Democrats won’t get sidetracked by the so-called “pragmatists” within the party trying to lead the party astray by deviating from the progressive agenda. It would be a damned shame if somebody was successful in convincing this administration to pull a Clintonesque pivot toward the middle.

Maintaining one’s focus is important and one can only visit the Daily Kos so many times before the amount of bile there starts eating through your skin and destroying your soul. So, as a public service, I’ve taken the liberty of designing a few motivational posters that will help our Democrat friends stay on point as we approach the November elections. No charge Dems – feel free to print them out, use them as screen-savers, whatever. We’re here to help.

Despite repeated, uxorious, absurdly one-sided endorsements from the liberal media, the February 4 vote on President Obama’s year-old nomination of “darling of the left” Dawn Johnsen to head the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) has mercifully been postponed. The OLC, whose main duty is to defend the president’s authority in wartime, also advises intelligence and counterterrorism agencies.

Johnsen endeared herself to Obama and his followers by fervently urging during the presidential campaign, at Slate, that we “restore our nation’s honor” by condemning the U.S.’s “past transgressions” and rejecting “Bush’s corruption of American ideals.”

Johnsen

This – in particular, Johnsen’s zealous stand against the Bush Administration’s counterterror policies on matters such as interrogation methods as well as against its alleged excessive secrecy – resonated powerfully with anti- anti-terror progressives.

Slate contributor Glenn Greenwald, for example, effusively hailed Johnsen’s call for national breast-beating and purification, praising her nomination as “Obama’s best yet, perhaps by far.” When the Democrats first began to lag in mustering the votes to approve the nomination, Greenwald took umbrage: (more…)
