As Andrew Breitbart recounts in his excellent new book Righteous Indignation, when James O’Keefe first showed him a series of tapes in which he and Hannah Giles had posed as a pimp and a prostitute successfully requesting help from ACORN to set up brothels for their 14-year-old El Salvadoran sex slaves, James turned to Andrew and said, “We’re going to take down ACORN.” Andrew responded, “No. We’re going to take down the media.”

Jerry Brown’s campaign conspired to commit political rape, calling Meg Whitman, his female political opponent, a “whore.” And he got N.O.W.’s political endorsement for doing so. The liberal beauty mask is so off the wrinkled, geriatric, age-spotted National Organization of Whores (yes, only a woman could write that so I just did).

Yet for all the mild hand-wringing over whether the “w-word” should have been used, no one in the Make-Believe Media is even questioning N.O.W.’s endorsement much less mocking the utter hypocrisy of it all. A women’s organization rewarding a politician for calling a woman a whore and no one notices. They’re all too busy with damage control for Brown’s campaign.

Stephanie Schriock, the leader of the prominent pro-abortion group Emily’s List, ever so gently criticized Brown in a remarkably tepid and muted way, concluding that, “It’s unfortunate to hear it in any place.”

“It’s inappropriate; it’s just wrong,” said Stephanie Schriock, the leader of EMILY’S List, a Democratic group dedicated to electing pro-choice women, on C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers.” Such words “just shouldn’t be used anywhere by anyone, period. It is just not what our democracy is about. It’s unfortunate to hear it in any place.”

Unfortunate?!? “Unfortunate” is when it rains on your newly washed car or you break a nail. How about “vile” or “despicable” or “reprehensible”? Get a thesaurus, Ms. Schriock.

Jersey City pimp Allen E. Brown was recently sentenced to 18 years in federal prison for trafficking underaged prostitutes. Perhaps he would have gotten off had he simply claimed in court that he wasn’t dressed as a pimp when operating his prostitution ring.

For the past nine months, Media Matters for America has obsessively defended ACORN’s video-verified role in helping James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles set up a brothel for pubsescent sex slaves on the basis that James was not dressed as a pimp and that Hannah was not dressed as a prostitute — as she was in my creative b-roll portion of the videos — when entering the offices.

Despite the audio-recorded conversations in which Hannah was indisputably introduced as a prostitute requesting ACORN’s assistance in establishing a brothel, in which almost all ACORN workers approached offered their assistance — in Media Matters’ eyes, the wardrobe factor automatically rendered the damning investigation a “practical joke” and a “hoax.”

But while they laughed at the apparently trivial reality of a taxpayer-funded organization enabling underaged sex slavery, when O’Keefe set up in New Orleans what was actually intended as a practical joke to be taped and put up on YouTube as a minor radar-blip project to punctuate his more serious investigations — the left was not laughing. After pleading guilty to what is apparently the misdemeanor of “Entry by false pretenses to any real property, vessel, or aircraft of the United States” (18 U.S.C. § 1036), James O’Keefe has joined a long list of political activists convicted of charges related to their political activism.  He’s just the only conservative one.  Nonetheless, we look forward to the mainstream media enshrining him in its current pantheon of heroes of civil disobedience.  And to elephants flying.

Like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, with their like-clockwork arrests protesting whatever is in the news at any given moment, O’Keefe’s antics were apparently designed to make a political point.  In this case, the point seemed to be to show that the local staff of Senator Mary Landrieu (D., La.) was making up stories about her telephone system’s being down in order to dodge calls from outraged constituents decrying the health care reform bill.

It being a conservative point, rather than a left-wing attempt to raise racial tensions or extort money from cowardly corporations, we have not seen much sympathy for O’Keefe’s plight.

Of course, it is unfair to compare O’Keefe to lefty icons Sharpton or Jackson – unfair to O’Keefe.  The precocious O’Keefe helped blow the lid off ACORN’s twisted willingness to break not only the law but also the most basic tenets of moral decency in order to assist what its representatives understood to be child sex slavers, leading to ACORN’s welcome demise.  In contrast, Sharpton is a notorious charlatan who has spent years dodging the judgment against him entered after the Tawana Brawley charade, and Jesse Jackson is a noted shakedown artist, adulterer and father of a love child. Things were going so well for David Shuster at the start of the year. On January 26, James O’Keefe, chief ACORN-buster, and several of his friends had just been arrested for “breaking into” the office of Senator Mary Landrieu. The MSM sharks started circling. Blood was in the water. Cries of “Watergate, Jr.” reverberated throughout the vast MSM echo chamber, led by the king reverberator himself, David Shuster, in this whole overblown non-scandal.

CT cirquedusoleil013.JPG

For a refresher course in MSM diversion and moral equivalence, watch Shuster bend over backwards, Cirque-du-Soleil style, to defend ACORN while simultaneously all-but-convicting O’Keefe of felony burglary. Shuster claims in the Breitbart video that “O’Keefe wanted to shame Senator Mary Landrieu.” Yes, Dave. He wanted to. But she’d already beaten him to it.

At the time of the real Watergate scandal, Shuster was just out of kindergarten. Perhaps this explains his first-grade level of skepticism of politicians. It makes one wonder: where did the man get his B.A. from–  the Kumbaya School of Communications? Yesterday, O’Keefe pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor in the Landrieu event. End of non-story. (more…)

This is what libel looks like.

New York Magazine has claimed:

When we read this morning that ACORN-sting videographer James O’Keefe pleaded guilty today to attempting to tamper with the phones in Louisiana senator Mary Landrieu’s office, we wondered how Andrew Breitbart would react.

That is an outright falsehood. O”Keefe entered a plea to the misdemeanor crime of entering a federal building under false pretenses. The government couldn’t prove that he attempted to tamper with the phones in Landrieu’s office — which is why the charges were reduced to the far less serious misdemeanor charge.

The story links to another story at New York Magazine bearing the headline: “Activist James O’Keefe Pleads Guilty to Tampering With Senator’s Phones.” Wow — all of a sudden he’s not just “attempting to” tamper with the phones (which he never did) . . . in the headline they claim he actually pled guilty to tampering with the phones (which he didn’t do and didn’t plead guilty to). Here is the text of their bogus and false story:

Andrew Breitbart acolyte and sorta ACORN stinger James O’Keefe pleaded guilty, along with three other conservative activists, of trying to tamper with the phones in Louisiana senator Mary Landrieu’s office. O’Keefe, 25, will get three years probation, 100 hours of community service, and a $1,500 fine, but will no longer, presumably, be grounded. [WP]

False.

This past week marked one of the strangest periods of my life.  And yes, the arrest of my friend and colleague James O’Keefe had a lot to do with it. James found himself, once again, in the middle of a raging media battle all because he wanted to shine a little light on public corruption.  Let me tell you something, he certainly rang in the New Year with this one.  As James said:

My goal is to expose corruption and lack of concern for citizens by government and other institutions…

Target: Mary Landrieu. Why: she’s been taking legal “bribes” in the form of the “Louisiana Purchase” in exchange for her vote on Sen. Harry Reid’s healthcare bill, and ignoring phone calls from her outraged constituents.  Bold, dirty, rude politics at its finest.

Putting his head down, and plowing ahead, James was off to New Orleans working on a new project.  A project that would hopefully raise questions, demand answers, and spur people to action. (more…)

There’s a concept, often applied to intelligence operations, called “mirror thinking.” This refers to the assumption that everyone else acts in the same way you would and is motivated by the same things that would motivate you. When the old media rushed to judge James O’Keefe after he was arrested outside of Senator Landrieu’s office, the “spying” allegations and “Watergate Jr.” label seemed to say more about the reporters covering the story than it did about the protagonist in this alleged drama.

When the Landrieu story broke, my immediate reaction was: “O’Keefe is yanking somebody’s chain again.” Andrew’s post seemed to confirm that assumption, and now comes O’Keefe’s statement that confirms it.  It will be fascinating to see how this all plays out.

But, the reaction in the old media was quite different and most revealing. Journalists saw somebody arrested who is a part of a political movement they don’t care for and quickly applied mirror thinking. What was O’Keefe up to? It had to be something sneaky and nasty, because that’s what they do to embarrass their political opponents. (Just ask Sarah Palin). But – hah-hah! – the kid took it too far. Gotcha!

newsweek

In Katie Connolly’s article “Fake ACORN Pimp Arrested in Attempt to Bug Senate Office” of January 26th, 2010, Mrs. Connolly twice referred to an attempt to “bug” Sen. Landrieu by James O’Keefe and three other conservative activists in New Orleans.  Aside from the reference to an “attempt to bug” in the headline, Connolly furthers the meme here:

It’s unclear what the bugging was intended to prove, or why Mary Landrieu was the target.

There are no allegations of any attempt to “bug” or wiretap Sen. Landrieu in the FBI affidavit, and a law enforcement official has conceded that the four men were not attempting to wiretap or intercept calls.  Furthermore, legal representation for the accused has gone on record stating there were no intentions to wiretap.

We kindly ask you to issue a correction/retraction to the story.

We have been/will be making similar requests of other news sources to correct similar errors.  Some, such as the Washington Post and MSNBC’s David Shuster, already have posted corrections or retractions.

As you all watched the Bowl Championship Series title game between Texas and Alabama, consider that this could be the final game where some degree of freedom exists in who actually plays in the game.

Reliable sources tell me that senators are lining up to make demands for future BCS Bowl Games. Of course, these demands have not yet been made public because the negotiations are taking place in a secret location, in a closed building, behind a locked door, and the senators are reportedly hiding under black sheets — just like in the top-secret “health care” reconciliation process now underway.

nelsonSay goodnight, Ben

Apparently – and you heard it here first – Ben Nelson (D-Lame Duck, Neb.) has had told Harry Reid (D-Dead Man Talking) that he’s excited about the prospect of free Medicaid forever, but since the issue is insurance, he wants the Nebraska Cornhuskers to be guaranteed a BCS Bowl game forever or until he needs a hair transplant, whichever comes first. Plus, he’d like that one second taken back off the clock in the Nebraska/Texas game that put Texas in the Championship Game.

Typically, Reid praised himself as a brilliant negotiator and said Nelson could have his “Cornhusker Guarantee” by getting his team in the new Forever BCS Series, but that he could not take the second off the clock. Reid then reportedly said, “This has to be done in the spirit of bi-partisanship, there are Republicans in Texas. Besides, I want to use the word “bipartisanship” in a sentence I actually mean.” (more…)

The president of the United States is a “light-skinned” man “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.”  That, at least, is the carefully considered opinion of soon-to-be-former Senate majority leader Harry Reid, quoted in a forthcoming book by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin, Game Change, about the 2008 election of Barack Obama.  The thing is, Hapless Harry meant it in a good way.

At least he did until now, when the news of the explosive statement found its way into The Washington Post and Politico.  Already reeling in his hopeless, doomed-as-Chris-Dodd campaign for re-election this fall, the Sage of Searchlight no doubt thought he was being complimentary in his usual clueless, white-guy-of-a-certain-age way.  After all, when Harry was growing up, “Negro” was the polite term you used to show you weren’t a racist, and as for light-skinned, well, we all knew what that meant.  Why, the next thing you know, Unhorsed Harry will be describing Obama as “a credit to his race.”

The authors write: “Reid was convinced, in fact, in fact, that Obama’s race would help him more than hurt him in a bid for the Democratic nomination.”  Gee, that sounds a lot like what Geraldine Ferraro said, and her reward was practically being drummed out of the Democrat Party.

This isn’t the first time the scrappy little Mormon boxer has found himself on his keister over race.  He had some ‘splainin’ to do when the seat-warming, monument-building senator from Illinois, Roland Burris, explicitly charged him with racism for trying to block indicted Gov. Rod Blagojevich from appointing an African-American to replace Obama in the senate.  Watch and listen to Harry dance as David Gregory grills him on Meet the Press:

But there’s bigger game afoot than one pathetic little man’s attempt to cling to his rapidly diminishing power.  With Dodd and Byron Dorgan having defenestrated themselves, Sens. Chuck Schumer and Dick Durbin, two of the nastier people in the World’s Greatest Deliberative Body, are busily greasing the skids for obvious Democrat losers like Reid, Blanche Lincoln, Mary Landrieu and other endangered-species types.
