Patterson

This is the chubby face of tyranny. A Michigan state senator has introduced an Orwellian bill that would provide for the licensing of journalists. There is no doubt that this thing is aimed squarely at delegitimizing the New Media, silencing bloggers, and creating a protected class of state approved “journalists.”

State Senator Bruce Patterson is the brains behind this flouting of the U.S. Constitution and outrageously enough, this Patterson fellow claims to be a “constitutional lawyer.” Pair him with the “constitutional scholar” we have as president and we have a matched set of revisionists out to steal as much power for themselves as one can find in any tinpot dictatorship! Even more ridiculously, this mustachioed villain is a Michigan Republican, proving that this sort of megalomania infests both sides of the aisle.

So what is this licensing deal supposed to do for us, the stupid people not able to figure out which end is up with current events, anyway? According to Patterson we can’t get “good information” any more because of the proliferation of new sources of info. But not to worry, nanny Patterson is here to save the day and he’ll selflessly take it upon himself to determine what news source is a “legitimate media source.” What could possibly go wrong? When the nine members of the Hutaree militia group were arrested in late March near Adrian, Michigan, the MSM ran hard with the story.  Within 48 hours, the template was set: A “right-wing extremist Christian” militia group had been planning to wreak havoc by killing law enforcement officers as a way to engage a wider war against the government.

Soon the MSM had the Hutarees tried, convicted and jailed.

Throughout most of April, the story faded from the news and left behind the public assumption that the Hutarees’ diabolical plot had been thwarted by the FBI in the nick of time.

Then, at an April 27 court hearing concerning the group’s disposition as they awaited trial, the lead FBI agent in the case against the Hutarees was called to testify before U.S. District Judge Victoria A. Roberts. That’s when, according to the Detroit News, the government’s case started showing some serious cracks; (more…)

When Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) rode in on the proverbial “white horse,” conservatives across the country rose to attention and applauded his authenticity. Americans were astounded by this Democrat who had courage to stand against his own Party. It was truly fascinating. At first there was hope that despite being a Democrat — he would make the right decision, and vote “nay” on Obamacare. In the end — 34 Democrats made that decision, but Rep. Stupak thought he could fix it. He made a deal with President Barack Hussein Obama, the most pro-choice President in American history.

As the predictions said, Obamacare passed, and was signed by the President yesterday. Not only is this an epic, epic failure – this is a history-making failure.

First of all, let’s look at exactly what this deal was: Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of the Susan B Anthony List explained it in her appearance on America Live with Megan Kelly:

It gave me deep sorrow to watch. Congressman Stupak had all the legislative power in his hands to do exactly what he said he wanted to do, which is to undermine, frankly, the Senate position and the President’s position, and put his in legislative language. He had all the power. He gave it away, for a piece of paper that cannot stand legislative, nor judicial muster. And then went on to vote against his own language…

Why would he do this? Is it possible that there may be some *gasp* backroom deal? Oh, of course not. Politicians never do that. Let’s take a look at the man behind the legislator: (more…)

Holy Mackinac Bridge, Batman. The blogosphere is calling Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) a “cheap date.”

Considering what it took to get him to vote for the U.S. Senate health care bill, that’s a fitting way to describe Slick Stupak. According to Stupak, he struck a deal with President Obama, trading his ‘yes’ vote for a ‘worthless, non-binding’ executive order prohibiting federal funding for abortions.  And perhaps an airport or three.

Can you say ‘smoke and mirrors’? As a Stupak constituent (He’s also Michael Moore’s rep., believe it or not.), I can.

I have no doubt that the congressman from the UP would have voted for the bill anyway. Late last year, I attended one of those health care forums – you know, the ones where the annoyed politician comes face to face with a throng of peasants, armed with verbal pitchforks – in Petoskey, Michigan where, none other than Bart Stupak was the moderator: (more…)

If you live in Chicago and your only source of news is the venerable Chicago Tribune, it would take you a while to figure out that something happened in Massachusetts Tuesday night. One would think that an editor might place a story with the following lead – oh, I don’t know – front page, top of the fold, maybe?

In a stunning blow to Democrats, Republican Scott Brown ended the party’s half-century grip on the Senate seat once held by Edward M. Kennedy, coming from nowhere to give the GOP the crucial 41st vote needed to thwart President Obama and his agenda, possibly starting with healthcare.

It ended up on page fourteen.

Allow me to repeat: page fourteen. An election that stunned both parties, sent a thundering message to the President and his party, threatens the very existence of the signature piece of legislation that this administration – and the Chicago Tribune – believe is vital to the health and welfare of Americans is a story that, in the judgment of what used to be the beacon of Midwestern values, less important than finding Asian carp DNA in Lake Michigan yet again.
