In the same way he tried to capitalize on the horrific Tucson shooting as an excuse to attack Sarah Palin and conservatives, Paul Krugman has used his New York Times blog to attack Rudy Giuliani and President George W. Bush this morning in a most disgusting way:

What happened after 9/11 — and I think even people on the right know this, whether they admit it or not — was deeply shameful. Te (sic) atrocity should have been a unifying event, but instead it became a wedge issue. Fake heroes like Bernie Kerik, Rudy Giuliani, and, yes, George W. Bush raced to cash in on the horror. And then the attack was used to justify an unrelated war the neocons wanted to fight, for all the wrong reasons.

There is nothing wrong with reflecting on the events of ten years ago and making social and political judgements on our leaders’ reactions over the past decade.  In fact, most of us here at “The Bigs” have done so this morning at Big Government.

New York State, one of the most corrupt political entities on the planet, has long been a graveyard for aspiring African American politicians.  As Mayor of the City of New York, David Dinkins — the first and so far last black mayor — presided over the infamous Crown Heights race riot in 1991, as well as a horrific murder rate that topped 2,000 homicides a year during his infelicitous one-term administration, and was easily defeated by Rudy Giuliani in their electoral rematch in 1993.

But most black politicians never even get that far. Although demographics have shifted, the state is still largely controlled by the bastard idiot children of the Tammany Hall ethnic groups — the Irish, the Italians and the Jews — who grabbed controlled of the Democrat Party starting in the late 19th century and never let go. (Someone should write a novel on this subject!) For years, the Republicans controlled the state senate under their leader, Joe Bruno, the Democrats ran the assembly under their leader, Sheldon Silver, and the two criminal organizations split control of the state house under various hapless nonentities like George Pataki.

Until David Paterson found himself sitting in Albany in the wake of Eliot “Love Client No. 9″ Spitzer’s sudden resignation, black politicians needed not apply — as Carl McCall, the former state comptroller, found out in 2002, when he fought a bruising primary battle for the Democrat gubernatorial nomination against Andrew Cuomo, son of the former governor, and incurred the wrath of the Clinton Machine.  The sleazy, slippery Cuomo, currently state attorney general, had Paterson in his sights this year and probably would have defeated him in a primary until the New York Times did his dirty work for him and Paterson announced he would not run this fall. Last week, Air America announced its official closure and intention to file Chapter 7.  For those who had been following news surrounding the weeping willow of talk radio, this was no surprise.  While making a thin-kid splash with pseudo-celebrities back in 2004, the liberal network had a rocky history, replete with scandal, two bankruptcies and acquisitions.

Last week, Big Journalism’s James Hudnall reminded readers that Air America’s problems are not new.  According to Hudnall, “After a scandal involving misappropriated funds from black school children it promptly filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy two years later. Franken, Rhodes and Garofalo abandoned ship.”  (Come to think of it, perhaps that last part wasn’t so bad after all).

While Air America’s demise is surely a sad day for the precious few  who enjoyed leftist radio programming, there’s no need for liberal lamentations.  The left still dominates Hollywood, the university system and mainstream media, where adherents can find ongoing solace and a sympathetic informational stream – a triangular dominance of sorts.

What is most interesting about Air America’s silence is the clamor coming from angry liberals, particularly those at the painstakingly partisan Media Matters for America.  As can be expected, Media Matters’ Jamison Foser issued a statement that attacks conservative critics entitled, “The Right might want to hold off on gloating over Air America’s demise.” (more…)

For several days now the Old Media has been indulging in a steady attack on former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, the purpose of which is to deflect his recent criticism of President Obama. How?  First, by making what Giuliani said of Obama seem more complimentary than it was and, second, by focusing on a rather unexceptional remark being spun by the Left as a “gotcha” mistake in the mayor’s comments about the recent history of terror attacks in the U.S. This misdirected focus tends to detract from Giuliani’s fair criticism of Obama turning it instead into a slam on Giuliani.

How typical.

The latest slew of Rudy-savaging has been occasioned by his “misstatement” that no terror attacks occurred during Bush’s years in office. The critics are guffawing over what they claim is Rudy’s “neglect” to mention the attacks on 9/11.In an appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Giuliani said, “We had no domestic attacks under Bush. We’ve had one under Obama.” This, the Old Media claims, is an example of Rudy “somehow” forgetting that 9/11 occurred. (more…)
