Even in a far-left city such as San Francisco no one listens to progressive talk radio. Green 960 will be replaced by a conservative talker KNEW, and KNEW’s old spot on the dial 910 AM will be relaunched as KKSF AM, another conservative talker. Both stations are owned by Clear Channel, which was obviously tired of bleeding money on the previous failed enterprise.

Predictably, progressives immediately developed the vapors. Comments via JWF:

“Obama should have fixed this mess by nationalizing radio. Then the good stations like KGO could re-hire all the people they let go. Green 960 could stay on the air.”

“Dec 1st and near 70f here in the eastbay…and conservative radio will never even accept global warming..so Neanderthal talk will thrive.”

“Conservatives have time to listen to these cranks because they are sitting around in dead-end jobs, if they work at all, blaming their failures on liberals instead of their own stupidity. Liberals are too busy. ”

“Why don’t we liberals listen to talk radio? Because we don’t need the constant reinforcement that perpetually insecure, professionally paranoid conservatives do to valid our political ideas. Conservatives desperately need their “bubble.” But I recall seeing an article forecasting the end of conservative talk blather in the next 5-10 years, as its 55-dead demographic is both dying off and unattractive to sponsors. “

The first reaction is to blame the FCC over a private entity’s legal decision; secondly, to call for Obama to “nationalize” radio a la Mother Russia; and third, to claim that progressives are “too busy.” Really? Then why all the free time to “occupy” Wall Street?

Gren 960 makes its money from its advertisers, who are sold on ratings. For the picture book crowd: the number of listeners makes up your ratings. Clear Channel exists to make money, not to do progressives’ bidding. If operating Green 960 made money for Clear Channel, the company would keep it on the dial. All progressives had to do was listen and support the advertisers.

Nancy Pelosi as the Wicked Witch of the West? Seems about right:

Remember, the most effective way to melt down the Left is with ridicule: it’s the one thing they have no defense against.

It seems that some within the Mainstream Media have been trying to send the American public a clear message, “It is time for you to get over the 9-11 attacks.”

A majority of Americans have always seen the attacks of 9-11 as being on par with the attack upon Pearl Harbor since the dual attacks happened within our nation.

The members of the Mainstream Media always saw the attacks as the defining moment of the much-hated Bush Presidency. Now that another of President Obama’s teachable moments has blown up in his face, some of the Mainstream Media have sought to portray the growing opposition to a Community Center/ Mosque, two blocks from Ground Zero as an issue of racism and religious freedom.

From the Daily Kos to Fox news Contributor Bob Beckel, 9-11 victims, first responders and Americans have been attacked for not supporting the project and/or not simply getting over the attacks some nine years later. The Daily Kos went as far as to compare car accidents to 9-11 boasting that, “It was only 3,000 people come on, as more people die in car accidents yearly! (more…)

The Big Question For Nancy Pelosi has nothing to do with unemployment or taxes or even the nearing financial collapse of her home state and the municipalities she represents.  No sir (and madam), the question often asked of our Speaker is, “What’s your favorite word?”

I have walked on this planet for just over 50 years and would not need to remove my mittens to count the number of times someone looked me in the eye and asked, “Hey Mike, what’s your favorite word?” Nor can I recall any real reporters or journalists asking la Nancy such a question when it comes to public policy, so may she just made the whole thing up.

So I guess that we’re supposed to believe Madam Speaker when she stands and delivers this obviously contrived statement, followed by a small bible passage memorized to support her agenda.

Ms. Pelosi wants us to know that her favorite word of all time is the Word.  Yeah yeah, I know, it’s two words, but hang with her, she’s making a point here.  The Word is her word, so let’s let her have it. (more…)

Proposition 14, falsely dubbed an “open” primary, has found support among some prominent California newspapers. The Sacramento Bee says it will be a “win for democracy.” The San Francisco Chronicle says it will “create real competition.” The San Jose Mercury News says it will result in “a broader electorate choosing more results-oriented representatives.“ Those papers could not be more wrong – and that is why the Green Party, the Libertarian Party, the Peace and Freedom Party, the Democrat Party and the Republican Party all strongly oppose Prop. 14.

ThumbsDown

Our current system features a primary process in which all political parties, major and minor, participate. The nominees of those parties then square off in November throughout the state along with write-in candidates. Prop 14, which is being pushed by some of the proponents of the failed 2009 Prop. 1A tax increase, would end that system in favor of a “Top Two” primary. Under Prop. 14, all of the parties and candidates are forced into a single primary in June (when far less voters participate as opposed to the fall) and then only the top two vote-getters square off in the fall – where no one else would have a voice, write-in or otherwise.

1. Equality of Opportunity Not Outcome. At the outset, it is worth noting that Prop. 14 proponents openly hope it will produce a certain kind of candidates – so-called “moderates” – without any accurate, historical proof or data that it will. In other words, they openly are attempting to socially engineer election outcomes. Quite frankly, our Founding Fathers believed in equality of opportunities, not outcomes. They would have never sanctioned a election system designed to produce a certain type of thinker or politician – however fashionable it may be to claim they are necessary at any moment in time. No person who believes in the American experiment with liberty could possibly back a scheme whose purpose is to produce a specific type of candidate or politician. (more…)

Coolest video ever:

This is San Francisco on April 14, 1906, the city of William Randolph Hearst and the San Francisco Examiner, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Morning Call, the Daily Evening Bulletin, of Jack London and Frank Norris, of the Palace Hotel, of men in bowler hats and three-piece suits, of streetcars, cable cars, horse-drawn wagons, bicycles, of newsboys in caps and great department stores lining Market Street and there — at the very end the road, the Embarcadero and Ferry Building.

Four days later, at 5:12 a.m., the city changed:

A week ago, news began to break in San Francisco about a targeted gay-bashing crime that allegedly occurred on February 26.

Three cousins from Hayward have been charged in San Francisco with a hate crime and assault for allegedly firing a BB rifle at the face of a man they believed was gay, an attack the men videotaped, authorities said Wednesday.

Investigators believe the assailants chose the victim because he appeared to be gay. When the men were pulled over, police found a video camera that was used to film the shooting, investigators said.

Clearly, of course, this had to be a Christian right-wing, tea party, anti-government, bigoted homophobe from the South. Right?

Christian bigots - Tatchell

Wrong.

The three men, Shafiq Hashemi, 21, Sayed Bassam, 21, and Mohammad Habibzada, 24, the driver, were arrested. (more…)

California has long had the reputation of being trend-setter to the nation. The Golden State was practicing Obamanomics back when Barack was still called Barry. And now its ways are catching up to it like a hard partier who looks in the mirror one day and sees the portrait of Dorian Gray staring back at him.

Get ready America: California’s unsustainable path is echoed by the federal government. One will crash before the other, giving us all a preview of things to come.

Part of what is slowly destroying California is its move from a land of plenty to a land of locusts. The state taxes and regulates resident companies to such an extreme extent it has driven many of them, and many tax-paying citizens, to other states. For decades California was a place to migrate to. Now it’s suffering an exodus. The fault lies in a political shift from being a conservative, low- tax state to a statist, high-tax nanny state. Californians used to be the freest people in the United States and the world, and now? Not so much. (more…)
