The Justice Department charged that John Kiriakou, 47, who worked as a CIA officer from 1990 to 2004, revealed the information to journalists and that one reporter passed some of the secrets onto attorneys representing prisoners at Guantanamo Bay.

Kiriakou worked for Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) as a Senate Foreign Relations Committee investigator from March 2009 to April 2011, according to Senate records.

Last weekend, I had the privilege of attending the “Restoring Honor” rally in Washington, D.C. While I’m proud to be an American each and every day, I was especially proud on that day. The feeling I had being amongst so many people that love and appreciate the blessings of liberty was at times overwhelming. The purpose of the event was simple. We wanted to express our love for our nation and dedicate ourselves to practicing the values that has made it so strong. Unfortunately, this simple lesson appears to be impossible for liberals and the media to comprehend.

The media coverage and the liberal spin stopped short of calling the event a Ku Klux Klan rally, attended by racist tea partiers whose sole purpose is to suppress minorities, destroy the environment and worship big business. To no surprise, all the media coverage reflected this tired narrative. As usual with the media, they got it all wrong.

There’s no denying that the majority of the attendees were white — but then, so is the majority of America. Blacks were free to attend and many of us did but for some reason the media chose not to show us. There is no surprise that the liberals once again have terribly flawed logic. Consider this. I went to a predominantly black college. Whites are free to go to school there. Despite being heavily recruited in many cases, many still choose to get their educations elsewhere. Many black colleges offer scholarships specifically for white students. Does this make black colleges racist for not having more white students? The point is that the lack of attendance isn’t the same as exclusion. (more…)

“To Fisk,” means to refute, point by point, a published story; the verb comes from the left-wing British journalist Robert Fisk, whose slanted dispatches are often ruthlessly “fisked” in the blogosphere. Big Journalism’s comments on the text of the Washington Post’s “Cops Say There Was No ‘Escort’ For Bank Protesters” are in green:

A tempest developed in the conservative blogosphere over the weekend, with the D.C. police at the center of the storm.  the language art of belittling: “a tempest (as in a teapot) developed in the conservative blogosphere.” A bit condescending.

The controversy surrounds a May 16 protest organized by liberal group National People’s Action a group that merits some investigating and the Service Employees International Union. Hundreds of protesters targeted two homes in Chevy Chase, Md. — one belonging to a Bank of America attorney, the other to a J.P. Morgan Chase lobbyist — for raucous rallies decrying Wall Street’s efforts to influence bank-reform legislation.  That’s not what the video clips feature. They feature a wider, anti-capitalist agenda in play.

The protests had already garnered much attention from conservative activists upset that liberal activists would target bank employees at their homes. Then Big Journalism, a Web site started by digital media mogul Andrew Breitbart, published an item on Friday claiming that D.C. police officers had “escorted” the protesters to the residences. The word “escorted” came as Cpl. Dan Friz of the Montgomery County PD and I discussed the right word to describe the MPD’s role. I suggested a couple of options, like “accompanied” and then “how about escorted?” to which he readily agreed and repeated the word.  If they had a vehicle at the front of the caravan, it’s an escort. The item was picked up by influential bloggers, and yesterday, the Washington Examiner published an editorial titled “No more police escorts for union thugs.”  “Thugs” was the Examiner’s characterization. In a lead editorial last month in the aftermath of the great Washington snowstorms, ”Lessons from the Snow”, the Washington Post took the stance that the  inundation that plagued D.C.  (like other points in the U.S.) was nothing but a freak weather event — each time — and not something we should expect in the future. That’s really quite something, on the heels of WaPo’s other outbursts of late..

Specifically, on the subject of whether to outsource or regularly manage snow removal duties, “we tend to agree with those who say that it doesn’t make fiscal sense for governments to buy equipment that will be needed once or twice a century.”

Got that? These storms are nothing we should expect to continue.

That’s a rather incongruous line for a decidedly activist outlet, what with all of the moonbattery tossed around like Mardi Gras beads, in response to skeptic mockery of the alarmists’ previous claims that winters are now a thing of the past thanks to man-made global warming. Not that it’s inconsistent with the position the skeptics mocked, mind you.

It’s just that the Post had already come out to join the lunacy by asserting that such storms were, too, precisely what we should expect thanks to man-made global warming. (more…)

In case you’ve ever wondered why you never got the straight story on Islam directly after Sept. 11, and still haven’t, and why the media seems in the tank for jihad, here’s a clue.

The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) issued this directive a couple of weeks after 9/11; for sheer propaganda, their “Diversity Guidelines” are hard to beat.  In fact, the enemy who attacked our country in an attempt to bring it down may just as well have been writing the narrative.

The “guidelines,” adopted at the Society’s national convention on October 6, 2001, urges journalists to “take steps against racial profiling in their coverage of the war on terrorism and to reaffirm their commitment to use language that is informative and not inflammatory.”
