The Philadelphia Inquirer published a reader feedback opinion editorial from reader Stan Isaacs that is as outlandish as it is indicative of the disregard for the American process that liberals in the Old Media all too often exhibit. It is proof once again that tradition, law, and any effort at legitimacy is wholly outside a liberal’s field of interest. Winning is all they care about, voters opinions and the rule of law be damned.
What sparked Mr. Isaacs’ interest is when he somehow stumbled upon the fact that the number of U.S. Supreme Court Justices is not set in stone in the U.S. Constitution. We now have nine justices but in the past have had fewer. What intrigued him is that the number of justices fluctuated because of politics. “Political issues accounted for the changes,” Isaacs gleefully reported.
In keeping with these “political issues,” Mr. Isaacs lit upon the ideal way to help Obama finally push his left-wing agenda. He advised President Obama to add three new justices to the SCOTUS, justices who will mindlessly adhere to the grand vision of the age of Obama and will rule accordingly. This is necessary, Isaacs thinks, because the court has proven an impediment to Obama’s grand socialist design. Worse, Congress has balked at Obama’s wholesale destruction of America and has resisted his attempts to turn America into a weaker, less free version of Europe. Issacs, you see, demands a recount.
Sadly, Isaacs doesn’t seem to have the first clue why Obama’s re-design of the United States hasn’t already barreled ahead unhindered. Worse, he doesn’t seem to care.
After a short history lesson on the history of the SCOTUS, Isaacs delivers his pronouncement that Obama should pack the court with compliant yes men. After rehashing FDR’s mistakes in trying to pack the Supreme Court in 1937, Isaacs says that Obama could easily avoid FDR’s mistakes.
Obama can give himself a fighting chance by changing the rules of the game, just as they were changed for other presidents in the 1800s. He should forget bipartisanship and work with congressional Democrats to name three new justices to the court to meet the challenges he faces.
It would be a tumultuous fight, but it would be for a change we could believe in.
If your jaw is not dropping to the floor in shock, it should be. Isaacs is no less than suggesting that Obama should ignore the voters, ignore Congress, ignore our very system by simply “changing the rules” in order to get his destructive agenda forced down our throats.
Isaacs misses the elephant in his own rhetorical room. Congress isn’t helping ram Obamaism upon the nation because Congress itself is feeling the heat from the voters who don’t want Obama’s complete makeover of the United States to succeed.
If Congressional Democrats were in such a position to allow Obama to pack the court, Obama wouldn’t need to pack the court because he’d have the political support to push his agenda through to fruition! The reason many of Obama’s most cherished plans are stalled in Congress is not because Republicans are saying no, it’s not because of that mean ol’ Supreme Court, it’s because not enough Democrats are standing behind the president’s plans.
Apparently Isaacs is unaware that the Democrat Party has near veto-proof majorities in both houses of Congress and, if they were completely consolidated, could do anything they wanted to do. But that is just it; they aren’t completely consolidated. And why is that? Because a large number of them come from conservative-leaning districts where voters are unappreciative of Obama’s Euro-esque plans. These politicians are, therefore, obligated to vote against Obama’s agenda because their voters back home insist they do so. That’s the “representative” part of our representative democracy.

Now, let’s take a moment to realize exactly what this Isaacs fellow is advocating. Like most leftists, Isaacs is demanding that moderate Democrats from conservative districts ignore their voters and side with people that those voters dislike. Isaacs is saying the voter’s will doesn’t matter.
Then he is suggesting that we turn the courts into a political arm instead of a judicial arm. He is saying that the law should be nothing but an extension of presidential power, wholly owned and directed by the executive. So, why have a court at all in this case, Mr. Isaacs? In fact, why have a legislature? If Isaacs’ idea prevails we will have the United States of Obama where all “57 states” will be under the thumb of Obama the supreme ruler of all he surveys.
Now, Mr. Isaacs may like this idea. He may have no problem with a supreme ruler sitting benevolently in Washington D.C. As for the rest of us, I think we like our democratic republic. I think we like having a judiciary that isn’t told what to think by an all-powerful leader. I think we like having a body that legislates, one that acts the executive, and one for jurisprudence. We like our Constitution and our rule of law.
Sadly, Mr. Isaacs’ disinterest of our very American system makes him a typical liberal. But it also makes him very shortsighted. One wonders, after all, what this misinformed man would be say if a Republican had advised one of his presidents to act in such a haughty, self-indulgent, and dictatorial manner? One guesses that such as Mr. Isaacs would be none too happy, eh? Apoplectic might be the word. I guess the Biblical of “do unto others” doesn’t resonate with this one.

Typical liberal a**hat. Narcissistic cognitive dissonance no longer even begins to describe the malignant liberal mental derangement.
What's scary is where it is posted. This type of thing is often planned, and this might be the first of what will be a forthcoming storm from the Democrat controlled mainstream media. Why are the newspapers and major traditional networks uniformly liberal? I don't get it – why wouldn't one network want to make money by putting in a conservative newscaster – there has to be a reason for the libs only rule. The "koolade" explanation just doesn't fit – there has to be more to it. As an example: will someone 'splain this to me:
The recent book on the McCain campaign talked about the Hillory campaign being worried that Bill Clinton's continuing to cheat on his wife by having women brought to his hotel rooms on foreign trips coming to light – the Enquirer stories that had been going on for months WERE true.
The problem was that everyone in the press knew about it, but no one – not even Drudge – or anyone, even conservative blogs for that matter mentioned it – a national scandel by an ex-president, but….nothing – can someone explain what's going on? Will someone even talk about this – if it was a conservative politician this would have been splashed over every paper in the world!
Leftists simply do not believe in the concept of a nation of laws, not men. If that man is Obama or someone with equivalent beliefs they are more than willing to tear down traditions and bastardize the Founder's vision for how a civil society is governed. Our government governs at the consent of the people, not despite them.
"I know of no safe repository of the ultimate power of society but the people. And if we think them not enlightened enough, the remedy is not to take power from them, but to inform them by education." – Thomas Jefferson

What is wrong with these people?! If they so love a communist/socialist government move to China! Can they not see what moving to socialism is doing to the UK? To Greece? To California? To New York? What makes them think things would go any better if the entire US went the same route? Socialism has been tried and has failed countless times. Why is it that they think doing the same thing over and over again is going to get different results? Capitalism has gotten different results and has led to people being prosperous! It has led to new ideas, technologies, medical advances, funds to expand the arts and countless other advantages. These peoples lack of ability to see beyond their own faces makes me insane!
This is a old tactic of the progressive/socialist. FDR tried to pack the court when they ruled his New Deal program unconstitutional. But Frankie boy would not let that stop him, and he waited till some died (and some say he had some of them killed). Its a scary time in America, luckily the conservatives on the court are healthy.
I wish these people would just move to China. Stop trying to shove socialism down our throats. If you want it, go get it elsewhere. Go see how well it is working for the the UK and Greece. Go see a doctor in Canada and get back to me about your results in 8 months. Hell! You don't even have to move out of the US! Try to start a small business in New York or California and see how well that works out for you. Socialism has been tried and failed, countless times. It advances no one and nothing. Let us see how far research in medical advances go after governmental healthcare. Let us see how far technology can go without private businesses and individuals given the freedom and the cash to go forward with those ideas. Think that kind freedom and cash with come from this government?! If you don't like capitalism, then I say, get the hell out and leave it alone for the rest of us.
I've got my own opinion as to why the MSM is so liberally biased.
Remember, even though there is a plethora of news choices these days, back in the day there were only three. ABC, NBC and CBS. And when you have a small cartel like that, there is a certain standard they gravitate towards. Think of Detroit in the old days, the cars looked a little different, but not too different. Stick with what works.
Those days were hailed as the golden age of news casts. And new reporters coming into the field over the years sought to emulate that. Over time, it becomes embedded in the corporate mind set.
I've seen it before when I worked for IBM while it was in the process of imploding back in the early to mid 1990's. Upper management had a certain way things were done, and that's all there was to it. One of the staunch unwritten rules were that big, expensive main frames were all any customer could ever want or need. At IBM we openly laughed at the new PC's and work stations that were coming out. We mocked Windows as nothing but fancy window dressing.
And then we slowly disassembled the corp., took what still made money – business services – and moved on.
It did take a long time for IBM to realize it was pure folly to deciding we knew better than customers. So the customers just found some place to buy what they wanted.
I can only hope were seeing the same thing again. People reminding businesses that they make the decisions.
The concept of law means there is a crystal clear line of what is allowed, and what is not, what is wrong, and what is right. And modern liberals don't like the idea of being judged by a strict standard. So laws are great when it helps them, and when it doesn't, screw the law.
This story reveals an essential fact about most socialists: there's nothing social about them.
They may pay lip-service to the idea of a representative democracy, but when the people's representatives stand in the way of socialism, representative democracy is deemed a hindrance. These folks want nothing more than the fewest possible number of people calling the shots and telling all of us how to live our lives. Why? Because in they're minds, they're better than us. We're all too unenlightened to understand the grand plans they have to make us all better human beings.
At the heart of it, most socialists are tyrants-in-waiting, and when the opportunity presents itself they'll claim power of us in the name of saving humanity from itself. Socialism's entire philosophy can be summed up by this Vladimir Lenin quote: "It is true that liberty is precious–so precious that it must be carefully rationed."
These people must never be allowed to succeed.
I've been spending a considerable amount of time reading about progressivism, mostly in the writings/word of progressives themselves. They are simply evil. Progressivism is not compatible with the Constitution, individual freedom, or Christianity. They hate all three!
Progressives see the Constitution as an obstacle to their vision of a global elitist dictatorship, so they are doing everything they can to erode or destroy it. They don't believe in personal liberty; in their philosophy, only the "collective" has rights. They are like the Borg and we are only a "seven of nine" in the collective. Historical Christianity is worthless to them; they preach what early progressives called the "social gospel", which is just a rebranding of Marxism. This is not my opinion; it is their philosophy according to the published writings of progressives from early 20th Century. They are monsters. They are utterly evil, and they are getting their inspiration from the wrong source — the Demon from the Depths!
Get a looney tune judge from the 9th district.
The nasty fact about socialism is that there's absolutely nothing social about the ideology or the people who believe in it.
While lip-service may be paid to representative democracy, socialists believe it to be a hindrance if it stands in the way of their agenda. What they truly want is the fewest possible number of people calling the shots and telling us all how to live. They believe they're better than us, that we're too unenlightened to understand the grand plans they have to make us better human beings.
Socialists are merely tyrants-in-waiting, and they'll seize the first opportunity that presents itself so that they can wield power over us in the name of protecting humanity from itself. Socialism's philosophy was summed up quite well by Vladimir Lenin himself, who said "It is true that liberty is precious–so precious that it must be rationed."
Let us make sure they never succeed.

If these corrupt liberals ever completely take over our country what a horrible, oppressive place it will be. I'm not thrilled with Republicans, to put it lightly, but if they're the only resistance I have to Democrat tyranny then it'll have to do.
Just look at California, the hotbed of liberalism. It's an absolute embarrassing disaster. What more evidence do we need.
I wish these people would just move. You want socialism so badly? Go to the UK or Greece and see how well it worked out for them. You don't even have to leave the country! Move to California or New York and try to start a small business and see how well that works out for you. Go to Canada for your healthcare and get back to me in 8 months with your test results. What do these people think is going to happen to medical advances or advances in technology with the government running things? These advances require freedom of ideas and cash. Think this government will give those things to you?! (Cash maybe, but only if you do nothing to deserve it for several years.) If you want socialism, get the hell out and leave the rest of us alone.
FDR tried it, Obama thinks he's a semi-black FDR – sadly this wouldn't suprise me.
Where is the tipping point when regular people flood into the streets and demand accountabilty? When?
or corrupt liberal "journalism" schools, where liberal doctrine is everything and truth means nothing.
Agreed. But they're just cranking out the kind of newbies the MSM already demands.
Once that demand is gone, things change. They have too. Because the only constant in life is change.
When you read the responses to the opinion Op-Ed packing of the Supreme Court you realize there are still some sane people in this country — they all smacked the idea down as a hostile takeover and a socialist coup.
.
Stan Isaacs is a enemy of Freedom and a dangerous subversive radical…
…as is Obama.
Please, Obama, please please PLEASE listen to this moron! I beg you, pretty, pretty PUH-LEEEASE propose your very own court-packing scheme! And work so very hard, so very diligently on it! You could even put Stan Isaacs in charge!
And really, do NOT read anything regarding the actual history of FDR's court-packing plan. No, there is no need, really. Just rely on Mr. Isaac's rendition of why that was such a great, neato, nifty idea.
Obama sure has had a hard time office.
Who needs checks and balances anyway. They just get in the way when tyrannical dictators try to take over the world, for it's own good of course. Why not declare himself Supreme Chancellor and do away with the congress and the supreme court at one time. Any one else who attempts resistance will be shot or corralled into camps and starved to death. History proves this method to work quite well, at least for a while.
All hail supreme chancellor Barak!!
Please excuse me. I have to go puke blood.
Not a good idea, as a Constitutional Convention opens up the entire document for rrevision. Better to push for individual amendments, such as a balanced federal budget and all laws passed by congress apply uniformly across the population, including federal employees (like congressmen :^)
That's because the majority of the electorate (we the people) don't like what he is doing.

Illiberals/Regressives/Secular-statists were reared in what I like to call the lazy-ist tradition. Not really being liberals, the lazy-ists rear their kids in as absolutely a hands-off fashion as they can because they don't really want to deal with children and in so doing give their children absolutely no training in or standards for all things moral, ethical, behavioral, logical, spiritual, patriotic, etc. If you wanted to "nurture" someone to become an adult who couldn't "play by the rules" but who were so full of themselves that they thought they could do no wrong, is this not the recipe? If no one, who should have been a mentor to you, ever challenged anything you ever said, did, or thought, why wouldn't you turn out to be an anarchist (Someone not recognizing the need for order}? That's why they're all so criminally prone–no one ever expected better of them.
Two words – Scott Brown
If he created new seats, he would not be able to fill them. The attempt would infuriate the public and they would support a filibuster for as long as needed.
This may be the most insane of the stupid ideas spewing from the radical left.
seven more months…
This Issacs person and many like him sound just like Israelites after Moses. They petitioned God to allow them to have a king. He told them no because He knew it was a bad idea. The Israelites persisted and begged because they wanted to be like the other nations of the known world and finally God relented. I contend that He relented not because of pressure but because He also knew there needed to be a recording in biblical history of just how bad this idea could be. There were a few good kings but most of the history of Israelites bear out that the succession of kings made the people much worse off. I wouldn't want what Issacs has proposed even if R. Reagan was the current POTUS. It is stupid, childish and dictorial. The opposite of what our founders so wisely envisioned for us. Fortunately most Democrats are not progressive left wing loons like this idiot and they would not be comfortable with the idea either.
Osama tries to pack the Court, and he may find out what the 2nd Amendment is really all about.
Amazing that the author would write a whole piece refuting a claim on a newspaper message board, and readers would think obama had proposed such a thing.
Um, who has said that Obama proposed this again?
If they even thought of doing this, all hell will be brought down on them. They can't even push through Healthcare…I don't even think they can using reconciliation. They don't have the votes…they may be able to bribe a few more and that is what they are hoping for, but I don't think it will happen. "We the people" are pissed off and those Senators and Representatives that value their seat will not budge. So adding three more justices to the SCOTUS would truly be the point of folks bringing out their pitchforks and torches….Issacs is a nimrod for even suggesting it!
I am counting the days…..
Soon Obamarrhoid (same as hemorrhoid) will declare himself "President for Life!" Then we will have a true cleansing.

Probably the perfect words for me to hear right about now…Thanks Famous Dr. Scanlon!
How silly to think that President Obama would 'stack' the Court with liberals. When faced with replacing liberal Justice Souter, Obama nominated a much more moderate judge in Sotomayor. That moved the court farther to the right. If Justice Stevens retires in the next year, I refuse to believe Obama will nominate anyone as liberal as Stevens, thus pushing the Court farther to the right. This fear of a left leaning Court after Obama is done just seems irrational to me.

You may have a point. You could also take it to another level, ie-I'm OK-You're OK, medals for participation, And God forbid a teacher uses RED ink. Esentially , the lazy-ist tradition being reinforced by society as a whole.
You can see why Obama called the Honduras arrest and exile as a coup. If he tries to consolidate power under the executive office and the people revolt and impeach him, will he call it a coup?
You sound like Glenn Beck. I agree with both of you.
Not as amazing as someone who read an article about an article from a newspaper message board and then leaves a comment that would indicate that you didn't understand the article in the first place. That's amazing
I wish these people would just move. How about the UK or Greece? Go there and see how well socialism is working out for them. Go see a doctor in Canada and get back to me in 8 months with your test results. You don't even have to move out of the states! Move to California or New York and try to open a small business and see how well that works out for you. Think there will be major advances in medical research or technology under socialism? NO! That requires freedom of ideas and cash. Won't get those under this government (Cash maybe, but only if you have been completely useless for a few years or you are a member of Congress.) Want socialism? Get the hell out and leave the rest of us alone.
The question becomes, at what point all of this rises to the level of breaking the existing social contract? At that point, all rules seem to be off. Perhaps its time for a Constitutional Convention, beginning with a call for a balanced budget, and strict protection of individual rights, especially those amounting to property rights
If there is anyone who had the political skills, political capital, and legislative majorities necessary to pack the courts, it would have been FDR. And he couldn't do it – this backfired in a big way, putting an effective end to the New Deal. It was his own party which led the attacks.
Obama no longer has the legislative majority to do this – he would set off a filibuster – and he has burned up most of his political capital. He certainly does not have the political skills to do it – much of his political training comes from a legisture dominated by his own party – not a good venue to develop ones political skills.
There is a reason why Congress hasn't changed the numbers on the court since the 1869 law, because they could no longer do it.
All too true. Look at how often the liberals want to change the rules of the game, 'move the goal posts', yet bleat loudly when the perceive conservatives doing the same. Another example is their use of language; leftists are always quite keen to redefine words and terms to their own advantage. I will quickly agree that many liberals are fine fellow americans, etc. but I can't believe how many discussions-turned-arguments I've been in where a leftist practically seems sociopathic with the way they change words and squirm around definitions.
Well put, Ultra_C. You Go O!

I would like to invite Mr. Isaacs to move to a country more in line with his ideology. Cuba would be a goood start.
California is a failed socialist experiment. While the illegals flood in, 3,000 families a month are fleeing. The producers are leaving and the mooches come in. The envirofascists have made doing business all but impossible, and they have shut down the source of water in the Central valley. The state government is way too large and consumes too much revenue and produces NOTHING BUT MISERY. Business has all but left and the politicians answer is MORE TAXES. Add the criminally insane mental midgets in Suckramento, and you have a recipe for disaster, a black hole that will threaten to take the entire country down with it.
I should be surprised at the enormous amount of fascist tactics that keep arising in the pursuit of communism in this country, but I'm not. The lazier this country gets, the lazier the thinking gets, and let's face it liberalism is lazy thinking at best.
Ronald Reagan was correct when losing freedom is always but one generation away.
That has got to be one of the most ignorant assessments I think I have ever read.
You already have the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. If you can't live with that you will open yourself up to the implementation of a Soviet style constitution ala Stalin full of glorious freedoms and rights.
Why do we call Mr. Isaacs a liberal? Is it because he is in a constant battle to corrupt and change the truth? Because he vainly tries to factuate his distorted view of reality with lies, propaganda and disinformation? Because he is a part of the secular political jihad against our Republic, and like any good jihadist, his faith is based upon a belief that our Republic is evil and must come to an end by any and all means necessary? Is that why we call Mr. Isaacs a liberal? Isn't there something else more fitting that we can call him?
