It's telling that the posters here can't get through a paragraph without some kind of slanderous name calling; it's just like the obsession that people have with the presidents middle name. What is the intended result of constantly pointing out his name?

It would be refreshing to see an intelligent nuanced debate on a subject, but sadly the rich republicans have managed to convince poor republicans that they are on their side by using talking points and slogans and smear campaigns. It seems the people here don't care about what is true, only that their "side" wins. The republicans took Clinton's surplus, and then passed their Prescription Drug Bill and two tax cuts which resulted in over 2 trillion to the deficit. The republicans trash the economy over and over, and yet when they go on TV and pretend to be concerned, people actually believe it!

Now the CBO says that Obama's bill will subtract 140 billion from the deficit - and republicans hate it. The politicians on the right never do what they say, they say one thing and do something else. They are lying through their teeth and no one seems to care because they want their side to win. Taxs cut deficits, and republicans want to to cut taxes, which makes things worse. The uber-rich are using OUR money on wall street to make themselves richer by taking risks, the only way the average person can get their money back is through taxes on the top 5%. The top 5% has 95% of the money, and they want more, and they don't care about us. They feign patriotism and go for knee-jerk reactions, and people actually fall for it.

In the 1940s the upper tax rate was 95% of total income, and rich people were STILL rich, but America flourished, we had a middle class. We built roads and infrastructure, until Regan boned the nation and cut taxes. We have been crumbling ever since. They even convinced the poor that Regan was a hero! All Regan did was make rich people, more rich - at the expense of the middle class. He was a corporate spokesperson that did grave damage to the US.

I keep hearing about liberal elites. Lets dissect that for a moment. Liberal, which is for liberty and freedom, and elite, which are the best and brightest in their areas. Both are good things, yet I hear it as a slur. Everyone wants an elite doctor, lawyer, or professional, but the right has this strange idea that the president needs to be like your neighbor. The president needs to be smarter than you are - and above average. He needs to be elite. The last time we elected an "everyman" we started two wars and trashed the world economy.

It reminds me of the "flip-flop" talk that was all over the TV. That is what people are supposed to do if new or better information is found. But it is a lot easier to just point fingers like 5 year olds in a schoolyard and say FLIP FLOPPER!!!!! I would like to see the national discourse raised above the dynamics of a group of young children.

What we need to do is restrict any public officials from receiving funds of any kind from any person or group. Only then will we have politicians that arent bought and paid for. Publicly financed elections are the silver bullet for corruption.

Bring the flames - see if you can do it without name calling. See if you can do it without over-inflated talking points that have no real substance or meaning.
