Despite the fact that President Obama made Cap and Trade and other green policy plans a focal point of his early days in office — not to mention his campaign for president — the White House has quietly scrubbed from its official website many of Obama’s promises and green initiatives. I guess the era of Obama really is “change you can believe in.”
Especially interesting it the sudden disappearance of Obama’s plan to commit $150 billion on clean energy research and development.
In 2008 as Obama was preparing to take office he featured on his “Office of the President Elect” website a pledge to spend $150 billion on energy R & D. As of today, that pledge is still there.
Invest in a clean energy economy and create 5 million new green jobs: Obama and Biden will invest $150 billion over 10 years to advance the next generation of biofuels and fuel infrastructure, accelerate the commercialization of plug-in hybrids, promote development of commercial scale renewable energy, invest in low emissions coal plants, and begin transition to a new digital electricity grid. The plan will also invest in America’s highly skilled manufacturing workforce and manufacturing centers to ensure that American workers have the skills and tools they need to pioneer the first wave of green technologies that will be in high demand throughout the world.
This policy was a major plank in his green initiatives plan and was featured on the White House website until July but just short of the two-year point in his term this pledge has vanished from the White House website.
Also gone is any clear pledge to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions via his formerly touted cap and trade legislative efforts. For instance, the section once titled “Closing the Carbon Loophole and Cracking Down on Polluters” is now vanished down the memory hole.
The differences can be clearly seen on the website Versionista, a site that tracks changes in the White House website.
Interestingly enough there is another thing that is missing from the Internet: any mention in the Old Media of the White House scrubbing its enviro-policies.
About all I can find on this story is a piece by Mark Tapscott, one on Politico, and one each from the advocacy groups American Energy Alliance and The Breakthrough Institute.
Shouldn’t the fact that the White House dropped some of its key environmental policies be pretty big news? Shouldn’t the changing of Obama’s “hope and change” be just enough to make the Old Media want to poke a finger in the President’s eye?
I guess the Old Media is too busy thrilling to Obama’s golf game to worry over much about his quiet policy changes.

Hey. Obama promised Hope and Change. He Changes his site every week. We just Hope it doesn't mean more taxes and less freedom.
He needs all the "green" money to bail out the failing union pension funds.
This is purely political posturing. It just goes to show that they are not very confident about the elections and do not want any negative opinion. In other words, "if you can't see it, it doesn't exist". The problem with this ideology is the American people are on to his tricks.
His agenda to socialize America is …….. nearly complete with Health Care (and he WILL unionize this industry, the largest employer in the world, making unions attached to the govt teet to keep their jobs by voting dem), the financial bill which gave the government control over almost every aspect of anything that has to do with money AND the ability to regulate/tax the bejeezus out of the taxpayer. The SEC doesn't even have to respond to any disclosure requests now (transparancy?). Cap and Tax (with CCX) will just have to wait and be passed behind the curtain during the lame duck session while we infight over a stupid mosque.

From this, I take it that they're not very confident that they'll be able to pass cap and trade during the lame-duck session. That, or they know it will be unpopular, so they don't want anyone in the general public talking about it until it gets foisted on the country.

That is surprising, especially since Obama throws billions of dollars around like dimes. This guy has NEVER met a government program he didn't like. Never. He has barely any cuts to the national budget (oh, except for defense, naturally, since it doesn't fit into his socialist agenda). He also usually only cuts future "increases" in a budget, but never the actualy budget itself, so spending pretty much stays the same.
I'm starting to feel like we need an Oliver Cromwell to lead a revolt in Washington. Seems like it's the only way things are actually going to change around here. Someone who is cheap and would treat the Federal budget as if it were his own money, and not someone elses. Someone who would actually reduce the size of government and not explode it. Someone who would stop taxing and stop regulating people to death. Someone who could come up with a tax code people could actually understand. And someone who actually believes in American exceptionalism, instead of thinking of it as being bad joke. This is the person we are looking for, the person who thinks these principles are even more important than his or her own life. Is there such a person out there? There had better be, because time is running out. Thanks to Obama and his minions, there may not be much left to salvage by 2012.

I'm should send you a calender. It's 2010 and plowing old ground doesn't SOLVE anything. The U.S. MUST pay interest on the debt called debt service and that fiscal fact makes the United States a MAJOR BORROWER in national/international money markets. We're squeezing out private entities that could borrow low and LEND thus loosening up the markets. Their is no DOUBT that the DEBT matters (I was talking about the national debt) and obviously deficits matter in accumulating that debt.
Clinton eventually signed balanced budgets and didn't run deficts (SAY THANK YOU GOP CONGRESS) and a booming economy yeilded higher reciepts to the Treasury.
What is notoriously UNRELIABLE are deficit PROJECTIONS which can be wildly wrong. I'm not goind to try to retroactively read Cheneys mind but deficit projections tend to be either pie-in-the-sky or grossly UNREALISTLY LOW.

No, no.no. The initial CUT was substanial enough that the 82 TERFA deal which the Dems then turned around and blew off agreements and then – with help from the short lived GOP Senate PASSED a MASSIVE spending bill one week later. So in '82 some of the 1981 deal was recinded – basically changes in depreciation schedules.
And again, Reagan SIGNED the bill ONLY on the agreement that a 3/1 reduuctions in spending to tax hikes would happen. It DIDN'T happen. That's the issue,

For a veto override A LOT of Repubs must have know that tax cuts for the rich do not work.
