If you want to see a perfect example of how the left-wing media plans to smear and destroy Mitt Romney should he win the GOP nomination, no better example can be found than the hoax over a photo that lefties every where are trying to sell as evidence of Romney’s “privileged” life. Lefties say the photo in question shows Romney “getting his shoes shined” before getting on a private jet during his campaign travel. That is not what the photo shows, of course, but let’s not let the truth get in the way of a good left-wing mudslinging, OK?
The meme began from a photo by Getty showing Romney sitting in a chair on the tarmac with his foot up and a red-jacketed worker attending to the candidate’s footwear. The left immediately assumed that Romney was getting his shoes shined before getting on a “corporate” jet. This story was made up out of whole cloth because in reality what the picture shows is Romney getting his shoes wanded by an explosive sniffing device wielded by a TSA agent before being allowed to board the plane.
The photo seems to have appeared early on the blog of the MSNBC smear show “The Ed Schultz Show” with the headline, “Romney Creates Another Job.” The caption set the tone for the left-wing onslaught to come saying, “Mitt Romney created another job with his presence alone… a job giving shoe shines on the tarmac in front of a corporate jet.”
From there Salon’s most virulent hater, Joan Walsh, picked up on the meme on her blog with one titled “Mr. 1 Percent is clueless about inequality,” where she used the photo as an illustration to “prove” that Romney was out of touch with the reg’lar folks.
Salon’s Steve Kornacki then went on MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow show and launched into his interpretation of the supposed shoe shining.
“There’s a picture that’s making the rounds today — the shoe shine on the tarmac,” Kornacki explained. “I don’t know if you saw this one. I don’t know where this came from… He’s sitting in front of an airplane. I think it might be a corporate jet, and he’s wearing a suit and he’s getting a shoe shine. He’s got a big smile on his face.”
…“He’s getting a shoe shine! We put this on Salon earlier today. I’m not sure where it originated. But it never looks good for a politician to be getting a shoe shine, you know, on a tarmac but it looks terrible when it’s Mitt Romney and this is your image and background. It looks worse when it’s the year 2012 and the economy is in such a bad place, and the Democrats are going to be going after your party for being the one that sort of favors the people who get shoe shines on tarmacs!” he added.
So, not only did Kornacki lie about the photo — he had no knowledge at all about what it really showed — but he then throw in the “I think it might be a corporate jet” on top of it — again without knowing if it really was or not — so that he could add more layers of lies to the story.
To its credit, NPR soon knocked down this false story informing its audience that the picture didn’t show any shoe shining at all.
Even after it was noted in on a few other media outlets that the photo did not depict Romney’s shoe shining, Salon used the false narrative anyway in another story the next day.
False as it is, the whole meme is being picked up by every left-wing site out there. Huffington Post even has a self-proclaimed comedy writer offering 12 Captions for Mitt Romney Getting a Shoeshine at the Airport.”
As I said, the truth doesn’t matter to the left. Not at all. They should promptly issue corrections.

Even the most innocent photo can be spoofed into a scandal by the left or their agents of the un-truth. How many things has Obambam done that we have never heard of?
so is the media now using racist comments about tsa agents as little more then shoe shine boys? wow, and i am the racist, wtf (no, not winning the future).
It is obvious to even the most casual observer that he was being wanded at the time. If a new job was created "shining shoes on the tarmac" that would be a obamacrat driven position, only a liberal would see the need for a shoe shine in that place. A conservative wouldn't waste his time. His shoes would be shined after take-off.
it doesn't even LOOK like a shoe shine.
Pretty uncomfortable positions for both people, and the device in his hand sure does NOT look like a shoe brush- and who in the hell would have it done ON THE TARMAC? But when you are in the self delusion of the kool aid left, any suggestion no matter how spurious takes the image of reality.
And if it was? So what, anyway. Most airports have a thriving shoeshine area; it is a service people provide for a fee.
And this is wrong because of what?…
Why do the leftists hate people who shine shoes for a living?
I don't suppose that the patch on the upper right arm of the jacket would have clued anyone in…
Rachel Maddow should also be honest and admit that he's actually a 13 year-old boy. Ed Schultz is a fat, lying sack of crap
I'm a lot more concerned about what faux conservatives Gingrich and Perry are saying about Romney, than what the PMS crowds says. After all, we know leftists despite Capitalism (unless it has the word Crony before it).
What I did not know is that we had so many economic illiterates in contention for the GOP nomination.
Petty … Progressive … Politics …
They all start with a "P".
This is like a remake of "The Shining" …… Heeerrr"s Rachael !
Progressives are liars and liars lie.
The msm is not going to give the republican candidate a fair shake – it is going to be up to us to flood all kinds of media with the truth.
Even though it is obvious that Romney is not getting a shoe shine, who cares. What is the big deal about getting a shoe shine.
If this is the kind of stuff they will come up with, if he wins the nominee, he is a shoe in…
With all that could be reported on about Romney they are choosing privilege?? The problem with real investigative reporting on Mittens is that it would expose Barack Obama as much as, if not more than, Mitt.
I'm not saying Romney would ever utter "punish enemies & reward friends" or put on a purple SEIU shirt. He does have those positive attributes. I reversed course and decided to start a new business but only because it doesn't require any hiring and the capital requirements are extremely low. A Romney presidency would certainly give some breathing room.
But let's not pretend that the macroeconomic conditions we face are going to change with Romney. ZIRP isn't going away anytime soon although the global bond gorillas may have something to say about that. What hawks were at the Federal Reserve are being replaced with more doves. And we can't get one word from Mitt Romney about ANY OF THIS and about the coordinated shenanigans at the Treasury Department.
Why? Because in this department Romney IS NO different than Obama. The only difference is that Obama was MORE privileged than Romney. At least Mitt did the time. Obama just went through the motions. Great choices.
Why was a security check being done on the tarmac instead of a nearby building? A little odd.
Ed Schultz is a perfect example of the frothing left wing media. When the left trys to demonize Rush Limbaugh, they will defend Ed Schultz. I wonder if all 25 viewers of MSNBC were watching.
I thought one reason why corporate jets was so popular was so you could void having to go through airport security. A second fact that they're ignoring was that he was flying on a regular jet.

Maybe the media could compare and contrast this to a $400 haicut by a democrat ex-presidential candidate who is now too sick to stand trial for violating campaign contribution laws.
Wow just think what they could be doing with Fast and Furious or Soylandra if they used their desire to care about real scandals.

Remember the picture of Jesse Jackson standing in front of an empty set of seats back in the 80s? The caption was something like, "Jesse gives speech, nobody shows up." Actually, he was surveying the are way before the speech. Media always has an agenda to push, and the truth ain't it.
I am so sick of all these stories about Mittens Romney. Can the real media folks out there vet this guy already?
I agree! Think about all the times they've doubled as informants for police on tv cop shows!
1. Anybody who has ever even seen someone else get a shoe shine would be able to tell you that's not how it's done.
2. What would be so wrong with a shoe shine anyway?
3. All good journalists and commentators start sentences with phrases like "I think it might be…" Right?
This is my first time seeing the picture and you'd have to be braindead not to see that he's not getting his shoes shined.
I guess you haven't flown out of too many small airports.
Actually, I have flown out of many small airports. Never saw a wand check happen at the steps of the aircraft. I'm just wondering if it was a stunt or something. —
If it was a democrat created job, there would have been five assistant shoe shine persons.
Come back in a year, it will be Obama doing the shoe-shining.
"I bet if you appeared to be lily white, liberals wouldn't assume that you're shining my shoes."
What's also bizarre about liberals' reaction to this picture is that they think shoe-shines are performed on the tarmac.
Where was the lefts outrage when Clinton's haircut onboard Airforce One caused a 4 hour delay at LAX?

Wonder if they'll report Michelle's lobster frenzy? Obama's perpetual vacation and infinite golf experience?
Ayup, only someone who has never: a) had their shoes shined, or b) never had to shine a shoe would think that is a shoe shine. But then again, ever seen a shiny pair of Birkenstocks?
Every left wing pundit and MSM member needs to see an ophthalmologist.
Speaking of lying, I wanted to punch CBS's Bob Schieffer yesterday, when he repeated the lie about Romney on "Face The Nation" that he "liked having the power to fire people," of course not telling the audience that he was talking about an insurance company providing poor service, not firing employees from a business taken over by say, Bain Capital.
How out of touch is Romney? He has shoes… TWO OF THEM! And… if you look close, you can see at least one sock, meaning that it is very likely that he has another. Mitt, why not just sneer in the poor man's face and flip him a nickel?
ho!
Good one. No, shiny Birkenstocks would ruin their appeal; they must be muddy and smelly…
